  1. The University of Niigata Prefecture is fully accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. UNP opened in April 2009 and operated as a local independent administrative institution (public university corporation). The university comprises two faculties: the Faculty of International Studies and Regional Development and the Faculty of Human Life Studies, and admits approximately 240 students per year. The University of Niigata Prefecture conducts an extensive range of research on society's various challenges from international, regional, and human perspectives. We are striving to become a university that develops graduates who will play a core role in identifying and overcoming such challenges while making significant contributions to our region's development. The University of Niigata Prefecture endeavors to: Provide a campus experience that enables students to realize their ambitions. Develop graduates able to compete in the global workplace. Nurture young leaders ready to play an essential role in the future of the region. Collaborate with those needing support in the development of problem-solving competencies. Put together a faculty that will expand the role of Niigata Prefecture in Northeast Asia. Our region is blessed with a rich natural environment and food culture and the potential to become a hub for international exchange in East Asia. The mission of the University of Niigata Prefecture is to nurture graduates who can put these strengths to fair use in resolving the various issues the region faces as it strives to become both a vibrant exchange hub for East Asian countries and a place where people choose to live because of the excellent child-raising environment and the long and healthy lives enjoyed by residents. Such graduates will need an international perspective such as foreign language ability and global viewpoint, a deep understanding of the region, and the rich human qualities important for living and working together with other people, regardless of whether they are from Japan or abroad. For this reason, the University of Niigata Prefecture has defined its Basic Principles as: "Development of an International Perspective," "Regional Emphasis," and "Development of Human Qualities." Cultivate mature, well-grounded, humane, empathic, creative, and motivated graduates who will be ready and able to play a constructive role in international society. Develop capabilities in students necessary for meaningful interaction with today's increasingly sophisticated, complex, and specialized society by teaching socially useful skills that include English-centric communication skills, skills required in child care facilities, and expert knowledge for providing nutritional guidance. Provide adequate support for students by introducing an adviser system tailored to address the needs of all students and provide them with the best possible assistance to realize their talents and achieve their goals while considering financial and other burdens that all students face during university life. Contribute to creating a better local society by producing graduates who appreciate the regional culture and the natural environment and who can act meaningfully based on their knowledge of society and its culture. The roots of regional prosperity can be found in the development of the region's people. Individuals rich in human qualities are needed to create a society in which people can live and prosper together and promote exchange with other nations. To cultivate such qualities, at the University of Niigata Prefecture, we offer an education tailored to each student's needs. We provide an environment where students can actively encourage and engage with one another as they learn together.
  2. This is the slogan of our university. The phrase "Lake Biwa is our campus" symbolizes our university's firm commitment and Shiga Prefecture people toward caring for the environment of Lake Biwa and its surroundings. The phrase "humanity is our text" represents our educational emphasis on the human being. Those phrases also reflect the characteristics of Shiga Prefecture. Lake Biwa is the largest lake in Japan, providing water for 15 million people in Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe in the Kinki region. To stop further environmental deterioration, the government, factories, and citizens in the prefecture have joined forces and made various efforts. As a result, Shiga Prefecture has become one of Japan's leading environmental-conscious prefectures and promotes various activities related to the natural ecosystem. While the university sits on over 86 acres of land, our learning place is not fixed just to the campus. The massive Lake Biwa and its surroundings are our dedicated campus. Since our founding in 1995, USP′s standing educational motto is, ″Our campus is Lake Biwa...and our text is Humanity″, which we put in to practice here. Lead by this motto and driven by a push to systematically learn about our region, we have created several minor areas of study for our undergraduates and our graduates. Among these minor areas is the ″Omi Gakushi″ (Regional Studies) one who is knowledgeable about the Omi region for the undergraduates, and the ″Omi Kanjin″ (Community Architect) Program for our graduates. These minor areas of study allow our students to participate in independent extra-curricular activities like the ″Omi Rakuza″ (student farm) or working alongside people in the community to tackle and resolve the many challenges of the region. The goal for our graduates is to train them in becoming leaders in community development. Whichever the minor area is, it is vital to facilitate meaningful communication with others to achieve the fullest learning experiences. Without question, communication plays the most crucial role throughout our lives as we interact in society. Meaningful communication does not mean just merely a discussion. Thinking for yourself requires a logical thought process. And finally, conveying your thoughts with exactness entails a strong ability to express yourself. Please allow yourself to gain knowledge, develop your ideas, and then convey them by seizing every learning opportunity that awaits you. To cultivate individual creativity, students are encouraged to pursue the subjects that interest them most, in addition to those in their specialized disciplines. In all departments, they spend a great deal of their time on fieldwork, experiments, and seminars, in which an emphasis is placed on ties to and bonding with local communities in Shiga Prefecture. Such activities help us fulfill the following motto: "Take root in the community, learn from the community, and contribute to the community." We were the first among Japanese universities to establish a School of Environment Science in 1997. Since then, social situations have changed rapidly and significantly. Environmental issues, such as global warming, pollution in lakes, and water shortages, are our significant worldwide concerns. To accommodate such social changes and act on social needs, our university was reorganized as a public university corporation in April 2006 and is no longer under prefectural control. Our emphasis on the environment and human life continues to be relevant to the next generation. We welcome young people who are genuinely concerned with the future of the world.
  3. Our university has a starting base on the training school for veterinary sciences founded in 1883. Since then, the number of students had increased and increased. Integrating three public universities in Osaka (old Osaka Prefecture University, Osaka Women's University, and Osaka Prefectural College of Nursing), we initiated a new OPU as a public university corporation in 2005. We have three campuses (Nakamozu campus, Habikino campus, and Rinku campus) and one downtown satellite office (I-site Namba). Nakamoto campus is the main campus which is located in Sakai-city. It takes one hour from Kansai International Airport. We have four colleges with thirteen schools for undergraduate students. There are about 6,000 undergraduate students. In our program for undergraduates, international students should have Japanese language ability. We also have seven graduate schools. There are about 1.500 students for master's degrees and 500 students for doctor degrees. For master students in the Graduate School of Engineering, there is a course in English. For doctor students in three graduate schools, candidates need not have Japanese language ability if they have English language ability. We have an International house (I-wing Nakamozu) on our main campus. Then international students have the chance to live there for their first year with Japanese resident assistants. There are various activities to promote the internationalization of the university there. OPU also accepts Internship students as exchange students from abroad. Osaka Prefecture University became a public university corporation by integrating the former Osaka Prefecture University, Osaka Women's University, and Osaka Prefecture College of Nursing. Each of the three institutions had been making a significant contribution to the advancement of education and academic research and the development of exceptional human resources for more than half a century, and Osaka Prefecture University inherited the value, asset, and history of each institution for further development and contribution to people and society at home and abroad. Library and Science Information Center. This is a center of the university's academic information open to the public with three primary functions of a library, an information network, and a lecture hall. The information network supports classes and practical training for information education and makes possible advanced researches and preparation of dissertations for the users. The main hall (U Hall Shirasagi) with a seating capacity of 1,200 can be used for various events. A conference hall with 300 people has a main hall, a small hall, a particular conference room equipped with a simultaneous interpreting system, and a salon for various uses to promote academic exchanges among the industry, the university, and the government.
