    Obuda University

Óbuda University continually builds and develops a competitive institution of higher education, meeting the European Higher Education Area's criteria and regulations. Óbuda University is a dynamic and thriving institution located in Budapest, the heart of Hungary, Europe's heart. For 132 years of existence, educational excellence has remained paramount. The history of our institution is spanning over three centuries. Óbuda University was established as of 1 January 2010, as a legal successor of Budapest Tech – and its legal predecessors, namely Donát Bánki Technical College, Kálmán Kandó Technical College, and the Technical College of Light Industry. The University's fundamental mission is to serve science and the future by transferring and developing knowledge at high standards and research and innovation. Óbuda University has excellent conditions for world-class research and education, a multi-cultural flair in labs and lecture halls, and active promotion of international partnerships. The University is a leading institution and an attractive, international place for study and research for many people. Óbuda University maintains broad international relations in 49 countries. We keep contacts with 231 foreign higher education institutions and research institutes. We coordinate several students and academic exchange programs. As a university of science and technology, Óbuda University is committed to providing a breadth of subjects which allows knowledge to be shared and combined in new ways. With its six faculties, it covers an extremely diverse academic spectrum. The services provided by the Óbuda University management team ensure that teaching and research proceed smoothly. ÓU management is continually adapting to rapidly changing needs. The University's mission is to serve the economy through development and high-level knowledge transfer and innovation. The education program is balanced to meet the demands of long-lasting basic knowledge, up-to-date professional and practical knowledge, and the application of these. The education process is built on the human relations and cooperative abilities of the students and professors. In this atmosphere, students learn civic values naturally and build them into their scale of values. Óbuda University, as a determinative participant of Hungarian higher education and engineer education, with its 130 years old traditions and experience, offers a 21st-century study opportunity for Hungarians and international students. Both the University and its predecessor institutions endeavored to harmonize traditional academic values with continually changing economic situations and present these expectations in educational and training opportunities. Based on these, our mission and our curriculum's main aim are to communicate vital, theoretically centered knowledge that can be used directly in real life within engineering, IT, economics, and pedagogy. Óbuda University offers full academic programs. Students can choose from three academic avenues of study, fourteen bachelor level specialties, ten master level specialties, three doctoral schools, and several postgraduate specialist training courses. Our courses are in full-time, part-time, or distance learning structures; some of our bachelor and master courses are also available in English. Furthermore, engineer-teacher courses are corresponding to our engineer programs. Our practice-oriented training's effectiveness is marked by positive feedback from the labor market and our students' successes during national and international competitions. I want to highlight their outstanding achievements at the Spaghetti Bridge Building, Design Challenge Robotics Building, Bosch Electromobil, Mitsubishi-Scholarship, Pneumobil, Shell Eco-marathon, Hajós György Mathematics, and PLC Control Engineering Programming Competitions. Our University highly supports Hungarian education outside the borders of Hungary. We have an engineer-teacher training program at the University of Novi Sad, a light industry engineer course on the Bachelor level in Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely), and soon we will start our educational activities at János Selye University, Komárno. The Massive Open Online Courses (K-MOOC) program in the Carpathian Basin, which opened as part of our University Research and Innovation Center, 1 September 2014, is considered one of our most significant achievements over the past few years. K-MOOC members are higher educational institutions of which the academic language is Hungarian. Twenty of the members are located inside Hungary, proper, and thirteen outside the borders... Since the free, credited, online courses at K-MOOC are available in Hungarian, this makes the feeling of belonging to the mother country within the Carpathian Basin even stronger. Based on our traditions and professional results, Óbuda University has an ambitious aim for the foreseeing years. In creating a new higher educational model, our goals are to form a university that operates as an international educational network, utilizing modern educational methods, offering a higher level of education, and fulfilling the industry's overall needs. Furthermore, we strive to continue our research, development, and innovation activities internationally recognized. We realize this goal within the frameworks of 'Campus 21,' which is the critical project of our institutional development plan for 2016-2020 (for the next four years). The strategy's keystone is the expectation that our University should be the precedent institution of Hungarian practical engineer training, which proves that students with any background can fulfill higher educational requirements and be successful in life. Beyond the educational content progress, 'Campus 21' visualizes significant infrastructural development and modernization for the University students, staff, representative bodies of municipalities, and our government. The most valuable treasure of the University is the student; the most important participants of the student's training are the instructors and the University's staff. I am convinced that the staff determines the values, quality, and image of the University towards the students and society, their diversity, personality, the values of the instructors and non-instructors, their work, their knowledge, and their humanity, and the overall commitment of the community. The University leadership – including the rector, as chief executive – considers one of its primary roles to create a committed staff committed to this aim, convergent and produces quality results. A staff of which member knows and understands the importance, the responsibility of his task. In this way, it is possible to create and convey values within the regular training structures.
