About Me

  1. At St. Michael's Catholic Academy, we recognize that parents are the primary teachers of their children. We are fortunate that so many parents have entrusted us to act as their partners in this teaching journey. We appreciate and respect the sacred trust they have in us. We seek to honor our mission to prepare students for leadership, service, and decision making consistent with Catholic values. St. Michael's students begin the school day in a creative and challenging environment and end the day with various optional co-curricular activities, ranging from clubs to sports to service. Whether they participate in Robotics Club or join the Literary Magazine Club, students can forge strong friendships outside of the classroom - friendships based on similar interests and talents. St. Michael's is committed to being the best school it can be – fulfilling the mission promise to assist our students in growing in their faith lives, embrace learning, and give back to the local community and beyond through lives of service. St. Michael's Catholic Academy is a Christ-centered, college preparatory learning community, inspiring lives of service, courage, personal integrity, and intellectual curiosity. Academic excellence has been a strength of Catholic education since the first Catholic school was founded in the US in 1640. St. Michael's Catholic Academy is proud to continue that tradition. St. Michael's graduates will have acquired a solid foundation in the academic core of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Theology, and World Languages. Each student will also have acquired an appreciation of the arts, proficiency in computer science, public speaking, and will have pursued individual interests through courses offered as electives. Centers of excellence have been established to supplement classroom instruction and further advance knowledge and skills, particularly in the critical areas of writing. The Writing Center is a place where students can work on refining their writing styles through better word choice, more sophisticated syntax, correct grammar reinforcement, and experiment with different types of writing. Our learning strategists are available to help students improve study, time management, organizational, and other critical skills. Individual tutoring is available in all areas as well. We strongly encourage our students to take advantage of these added benefits. St. Michael's is not only an exemplary college preparatory institution but also a "family of families." We enroll students who demonstrate the desire and ability to pursue a college preparatory program of studies and receptiveness to the various religious and Christian formation programs essential to St. Michael's mission. We are dedicated to educating the whole student: mind, body, and spirit. We support students' exploration of their individual and diverse potential, and we believe such exploration is the keystone for keeping the doors of possibility and opportunity open. We are a family of diverse students, engaged parents, accomplished and caring faculty, and committed staff, but our sense of community does not end there. In keeping with our Catholic values of service, we instill a broader understanding of community in our students – one that encompasses our local, national, and global families. We nurture self-expression and mastery of technique. Our teaching aims to increase overall aesthetic awareness and encourages creative solutions to real-life problems. We also attempt to build our students' understanding and appreciation of the rich and varied visual and performing arts traditions. St. Michael's state-of-the-art facilities include six classrooms for performing and visual arts, an outdoor gathering space with amphitheater seating, and the 360-seat Gloria Delgado Performing Arts Theatre. 2. When Mount St. Michael was first built in 1916, it was a scholastic where candidates for the holy priesthood were educated in philosophy and science. The students who walk its Spokane halls today may be younger than those scholastics of yesteryear. However, they are evidence that the Mount continues to serve as a center of traditional Catholic education. Located on a hill overlooking the city of Spokane, Washington, the Mount is now the home of St. Michael's Academy, a K-12 school staffed by religious of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen (CMRI). This traditional Catholic Academy offers a unique educational alternative by striving to impart to its students an abiding faith and love of God, respect for themselves and others, and a genuine love of country. The dedicated traditional Catholic Sisters and priests who form the core of the faculty are aided by other teachers who uphold high ideals through rigid academic standards and character formation and a deep spiritual connection with God. Thus St. Michael's Academy is dedicated to excellence both in education and the salvation of souls. The faculty strives to accomplish this end by teaching students to gain a deep understanding and commitment to the Roman Catholic Faith to learn and appreciate the traditions and values of Catholic culture and the means whereby these may be preserved in the modern world to develop solid academic skills in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, speaking and critical thinking and to gain an appreciation of the fine arts. Close interaction between teachers and students provides a bond not found in larger schools and ensures that no student is neglected or overlooked. Inspired by the teachings of our Divine Lord Jesus Christ, St. Michael's, a private Catholic school, prepares young men and women to recognize and choose right, contribute to a moral society, and be the future leaders of the 21st century.St. Michael's Academy educates its students to become industrious, moral, and intellectual leaders who enhance society by the example of their Catholic lives. Founded on Christian ethical principles, instruction emphasizes fundamental academic skills and perpetuates the legacy of western tradition. Recognizing each individual's uniqueness, the Academy challenges its students to perfect their characters, cultivate their talents, and pursue their full potential. St. Michael's Academy's emphasis is pre-eminently spiritual, assisting students in cooperating with Divine Grace, and become real and perfect Christians, effecting transformation into Christ. 3. We are committed to the highest level of achievement for pupils of all abilities and we recognize that there are no limits to a child’s potential. Our aim is simply to facilitate academic and personal success in a rigorous learning community and in a culture that embraces spiritual values of – serving others, tolerance, prayer, and forgiveness. It is our belief therefore that students grow into mature and responsible adults through Learning together in a Catholic community. Aspiring to academic excellence and success. Acquiring confidence, self-esteem, and fulfillment of their talent. Developing a love of learning, a love of Christ, and a love of each other. Our greatest resource is our team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who work creatively and professionally to give every student the chance to flourish and achieve our goal of academic excellence. The distinctive mission of St Michael’s Catholic College is to find a balance between rigor and care and to create an environment of supportive accountability. As it expands the college is committed to: Students achieving their potential and beyond as a result of a curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. Outstanding provision and outcomes in the sixth form. Sustaining and enhancing the authentic Catholic ethos of the college so that students feel valued and loved giving them self-belief and the ability to aspire to academic excellence. The College leading innovation through its creative response to government and self-generated initiatives and playing a lead role in the development of the CTA/Diocese new model of teacher training. As a result, excellent practice is regularly shared with other schools. As a Catholic college, our mission is: Living and learning together as a Catholic community in Christ. Religion, reason, and kindness are at the heart of our ethos through education. The philosophy of the college is therefore shaped by our faith. At St Michael’s, we aim to offer all of our students a broad and balanced curriculum, with a strong academic core. Within this, the expectation is that students are challenged academically, as well as enriched culturally, morally, and spiritually. The curriculum and the teaching and learning expectations within the college go beyond the statutory requirements both across the curriculum as a whole and within separate subjects, to ensure that students encounter risk and challenge as well as being supported individually to meet these challenges. Our starting point is the knowledge of the kind of learners that our students need to be to achieve the highest possible grades at KS5 and the skills, knowledge, and habits of learning and thinking needed to realize this ambition are built-in from year 7. Key stage 3 is the foundation of learning. In these three years, the curriculum builds the skills: resilience, problem-solving, and risk that are required for success up to grade A* at A level. Students study the full range of subjects available to have the opportunity to identify their skills and interests. To ensure access to this for all students, intensive support is provided in year 7, through the accelerated reading program, for those learners who arrive with below 100 in English. This support is maintained throughout their time at college either through in-class support or, at key stage 3 in particular, additional reading clubs. Key Stage 4: students begin to specialize within a strongly academic context that meets the needs and aspirations of our students. Depth of knowledge across fewer subjects is preferred, in preparation for study at KS5 and students should study no more than 9 subjects unless they are taking the individual sciences. Transition to KS5 is used to promote challenge and high expectations at KS4. To this end, scholarships and exhibitions are available subject to student performance at GCSE allowing access to differentiated support for university applications and appropriate enrichment opportunities. The curriculum has three pathways: A level + offering access to 4 A levels in Science, Maths, and Further Maths. An A level pathway offering access to three A levels and the Technical pathway which enables students to study for OCR National Qualifications in either: Sport, Business or ICT. All of the courses come with exhibitions to be awarded to those students who achieve a grade 9 or an A* in a subject that they continue at A level. While students with 4 A*/ Grade 8/9 will be considered for the Oxbridge Scholarship Pathway. St Michael’s School was built in 1960 as a diocesan school to cope with the expanding roles in the London area. The patron saint of the school is St Michael the Archangel, not a person that existed but a spirit. Until recently there was a statue of St Michael in the ground leading to the front of the building, however, it was in a poor state of repair and had to be removed. The School became a College in September 2010. In September 2011 St Michaels became a 6th Form College. In November of 2012 St Michaels became an Academy.
  4. St Michael’s Church of England School is a Christian school for the whole community. By admitting children based on the proximity of their home to the school, St Michael’s Academy is fully inclusive and welcomes children and families of all faiths and none. We aim to serve local children, parents, and the community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. Our Collective Worship follows Christian practices and we identify Christian perspectives where appropriate in the curriculum. If a parent wishes to exercise their legal right to withdraw their child from Collective Worship we will of course respect that decision but would note that our ethos is central to all that happens at school. We aim to: Create a caring and supportive environment where children are encouraged to persevere and to learn from their mistakes. Inspire every pupil with a love of learning. Provide an excellent grounding in reading, writing, and maths so that all children can apply their skills across the curriculum and in everyday life. Provide a broad and balanced curriculum that is responsive to individual needs, based on, but not limited by, the National Curriculum. Promote a distinctively Christian ethos. Root the school in the local community. Our central concern is the education of the whole child. This stems from the Christian belief that all people are made in God’s image so all are equally worthy of care and all have a valuable contribution to make to the school and wider community. Our vision is for the education of the highest quality, achieving good academic outcomes for pupils, and producing well-rounded individuals who combine care for others with a love for learning and an appreciation of the importance of spiritual and physical well-being. Alongside the national curriculum, we provide a rich and varied learning program that prepares children very well for life in secondary school and later life. We teach the children about life skills, equality, and diversity and give many opportunities for lifetime memories including a range of off-site visits and longer residential experiences. We instill a set of core values faith, respect, hard work, and forgiveness, and a motivation to learn that is remembered long after the children have left. At St Michael's we uphold and teach ‘British values’, it runs through all aspects of the curriculum. We believe that these values are aimed at being a good Citizen at a local and national level. We are implementing the following British values at Huntingtree across our curriculum. This may be through mock elections, the setting up of a school council, and during times of collective worship.
  5. St Michael's CE Primary School has a unique quality, it's a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming school with a history of high aspirations for all of the children who learn at the school. St Michael's is first and foremost a learning environment, preparing children for a happy, confident entry into the world. This means building their confidence and belief in themselves through our Christian ethos. We help them to make good friends and to develop a wide range of interests and skills, as well as inspiring them to achieve academic excellence. St Michael's is a friendly, lively, happy, caring community in the heart of Wood Green, London. We pride ourselves on being both outward and forward-looking. Our pupils come from diverse backgrounds and we are proud to reflect the cosmopolitan mix of London. We are not just tolerant of difference we value it, celebrate it, and encourage each child to be different. This is rooted in our school aims and Christian ethos and partnership with St Michael's church. We are a small school although the School's extended community is strong. We believe that children learn best when they are happy, secure, stimulated, and challenged both academically and through extra-curricular pursuits. St Michael's s CE Primary School is situated in Wood Green in the London Borough of Haringey. It is a one-form entry, primary school with a current roll of 210 children. The school is proud of its MISSION: "Inspired to excel with the freedom to dream" and works in partnership with parents and the local church to achieve this. St Michael's is an Academy School with a strong Christian ethos and values. We strive to help all pupils to understand religious beliefs, practices, and insights that have been handed down to them from the past, so that they may develop as individuals and members of society having a fuller awareness of the present-day living faith. Our Christian values are at the heart of our school and everything we do. We aim to provide a caring, stable, and intellectually stimulating environment where all children can develop their potential. Parents have strongly expressed their desire for their children to attend the school due to our ethos and the positive, inclusive way we encourage these values. All our children are equally important and we encourage and celebrate our differences. We aim for excellence in all that we do and strive to create pupils who are well-rounded and confident, happy people. We aim to encourage an understanding that they are important and have a place in society. Each pupil will be able to take advantage of their own and outside resources, whether they are spiritual, intellectual, or physical. We actively promote the fundamental British values of: Democracy The Rule of Law Respect Individual Liberty Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs We not only provide children with a broad general knowledge of the way the democratic system in Great Britain functions, but we give them opportunities to take an active part in the decision-making process in school by using the democratic process of voting and representation. During class time, the children earn "Gold Stars" throughout the school day. These are tallied and every Friday children who have collected 5, 10, or 15-star awards are given a Gold Certificate. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the period of education from birth to five years. During the Reception class, the children work towards the early learning goals. Most children are expected to achieve the early learning goals by the end of the Foundation Stage. There is a strong emphasis on children learning through play, both child-initiated and planned play. The curriculum is delivered through a combination of whole-class activities, adult-led focussed activities, and child-initiated activities. In our Reception Class, we teach children through ‘topics’ and these are based on the children’s interests. KS1 classes (Year 1 and Year 2) follow the National Curriculum, with emphasis on reading, writing, speaking & listening, mathematics and science. They use units from Milepost 1 of the IPC KS2 follows the National Curriculum, with an emphasis on English, maths, and science. Years 3 & 4 use units from Milepost 2 of the IPC, whereas Years 5 & 6 use units from Milepost 3. At St Michael's we use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to help underpin the curriculum excitingly and engagingly. We offer a curriculum that gives the children the opportunity to acquire the social and academic knowledge, skills, and understanding of the world that will adequately prepare them for the next stage of their learning and ultimately for later life.
  6. We are all committed to ensuring every child in our care receives the best possible education in an exciting, happy, safe, and secure environment. One thing that is always at the top of our agenda is the high quality of teaching and learning for the children. And the children’s well-being is at the heart of every decision we make. We love celebrating the achievements and successes of all our children. We firmly believe in working in partnership with parents/carers, the parish, and the wider community to ensure we achieve the very best for all our children. We will strive to keep building on these important relationships. Our Mission Statement: "With Jesus, we can achieve what we dream and believe". The classroom curriculum is comprised of two main elements: The National Curriculum and Religious Education. Our school is proud to be in the great city of Liverpool and acknowledges its location in many ways. We also embrace the rich and diverse cultural background from which our children come from. Learning is based on the principles of mutual respect, responsibility, and inquiry-based learning, which promote curiosity, embed the application of basic skills across the curriculum and allow writing to be meaningfully embedded. We plan our curriculum to ensure that it has sufficient breadth, balance, and relevance for each child. We use the Learning Challenge Curriculum as this approach secures greater learner involvement, builds on children’s prior knowledge and helps them to develop into creative, confident learners who are keen to take risks, collaborate, and persevere. It is these qualities that we feel are vital for success in life as well as learning. Build on children’s natural motivation to help them develop a love of learning. Achieve high standards in both Maths and English. Develop basic life skills to equip pupils to succeed in life. Nurture curiosity and creativity which feed the imagination. Nurture self-confidence to create an environment of self-belief. Instill resilience, independence, and personal attributes needed for life. Raise children’s aspirations to achieve their own goals. The Department for Education has reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs." As a school that serves a richly diverse community, we take our responsibility to promote community cohesion, generate respect for difference and individual rights seriously.
  7. We are a hidden gem – an oasis of green in inner London. We are a community that has a special place within Highgate Village. We cherish our happy, creative environment where children want to learn, feel safe, and exceed national expectations in all that they do. We have a unique set of skills and expertise and are incredibly engaged. We deliver a rich and broad school experience. We have a responsibility to ensure every moment for every pupil counts. We have a strong desire to continuously improve all that we do. We place great importance on all of our school community understanding and living by our vision, mission, and values. We believe our children’s future is created every day. Every moment counts.” Our mission: ‘To nurture and inspire our children to develop a love of learning in a supportive Christian community and become the best they can be.’ We provide a creative, challenging curriculum that encourages independent thought, problem-solving, and a love of learning. Like all schools in England, we must follow the national curriculum, but it is the way we do so that sets us apart. We believe a child’s future is created every day and we aim to make every moment count. That is our vision for St Michael’s and it shapes and guides our daily work with the children. In 1852, St. Michael’s opened as a Victorian Farm School with the ambition ‘to create an effective school for the poor’. This was both inspirational and ambitious – children did not have to go to school and many could not afford to do so. The school’s mission was, ‘to render the Boys and Girls generally handy and industrious and they should be employed as much as possible in general work and jobbing in about the schools.’ The school has gone through many changes since then. In April 1972, the new junior building was finished. It was officially opened in June by Margaret Thatcher, then-Secretary of State for Education. The opening was celebrated with a special opera performance. The Junior Hall continues to host many exciting plays, concerts, pantomimes, assemblies, fairs, and workshops. The infant children are still taught in the original buildings, which in 1979 were connected by another new hall. The Infant Hall is dedicated to Richard Grout, a headteacher from 1968-1981, who instigated many of the modern additions to the buildings. More recently, a room devoted to science and technology was created as well as a computing room, Greenroom, and Art room. The Art room is dedicated to Barbara Smith, a headteacher from 1997 until 2009. Plans are underway to convert a former teacher’s living quarters on the school grounds into a dedicated space for music. Thanks to our beginnings as a farm school, we are situated on four acres of land – a unique feature for a London school. This legacy of space left by the pioneers of 1852 gives the children an enviable environment. They are surrounded by fields, trees, gardens, and allotments, which are used daily for outdoor learning, sports, events – and of course, play. At St. Michael’s School, we work within a Christian philosophy and positively promote our Christian ethos. We aim to provide the best possible education to prepare and equip children for life in our multi-faith and multi-cultural world. We wish children to acquire a spirit of inquiry, positive attitudes, and a concern for others, within a caring community. Each child will be actively encouraged to develop his or her capabilities to the full. We will recognize the worth and value of each child and the importance of his or her self-esteem. Protective Behaviours are taught across the school and every child is aware that they have the right to feel safe. They are also taught about freedom of speech and how to propose and oppose a motion in a polite but direct way. Children are valued for their differences and there is a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs to enable children to try new things, develop new skills, and practice existing ones. Care is taken to provide equal opportunities for all genders such as a boys and girls football team. The children write and edit their own School Newspaper which reflects the issues that are important to them. An Anti-Bullying week is held annually and highlighted throughout the year. During these sessions, children are taught to value differences in others and themselves and to respect others. A consistent behavior policy is in place and children take responsibility, with support when needed, to resolve conflict and repair relationships. Friendship benches in the playground allow children to make new friends. Be the Best you can be is part of the PHSE and facilitates children in their journey to achieve their goals through the Olympic and Para-Olympic values, so encouraging children to value themselves and others.
  8. OLSM is a Catholic Primary School for children aged 4 to 11 years old. We have 177 children in 7 classes. We offer pupils a quality education within the context of a caring Catholic ethos based on Gospel Values. In partnership with parents who are the first teachers of their children, we encourage and support our pupils to achieve their full potential, whatever their gifts and talents, and to love one another as God loves us. Our ‘Come and See’ (R.E.) and ‘Cornerstones’ (topic) curricula are exciting and engaging for children whilst ensuring that the learning and teaching of basic and key skills are robust. We offer a range of extracurricular activities, many of which take full advantage of our beautiful grounds. We work in partnership with Ladybirds, offering pre-school provision for children aged 2.5 years to school age. We are fortunate to share our site with OLSM Church and so can develop close links with the Parish. School staff works closely with the Parish to ensure that our pupils know they are part of a wider family. Pupils regularly attend Parish Weekday Masses and Father James, along with Parishioners who are Foundation Governors are welcome and frequent visitors in school. Our busy and active school has breathtaking views of all the surrounding Abergavenny mountains. We are very proud of our wonderful extensive grounds and are working to make the most of this space with our popular Adventure Trail, Willow Maze, Peace Garden, herb garden, and vegetable garden. We Aim: To be a welcoming, distinctive, Catholic community of deep love and care, where everyone is valued for whom they are. To create a strong partnership between home, school, and parish and to be of service to the local and global community. To recognize the presence of Christ in our lives and to celebrate His love for us through prayers, worship, and in everything we do. Upon starting a new life in Hahndorf, the German settlers founded the school so that their children would be taught the Lutheran faith and German heritage. The school was closed by an Act of Parliament in 1917 at the First World War height and remained closed until its reopening in 1946.

  13. St. Michael’s School was first established in 1923 and has been situated in Bryn since 1928. The school has a stable management history and its founders, the Rees brothers built its reputation of strong academic success. They retired and were replaced by the former head boy, Mr. Vaughan-Evans in 1962. The school continued to grow and thrive under his leadership then Mr. Daniel Sheehan took up the legacy in 1994-2012 and his emphasis remained on setting high standards. The Headmaster, Benson Ferrari, continues to promote and develop the culture of academic excellence we have seen at the school’s core since its foundation more than 85 years ago. St. Michael’s is a local school with a national reputation, consistently listed in the UK's top 100 Independent Schools for A-level results. We have regularly been placed first Co-Educational Independent School in Wales for GCSE results, at times achieving a remarkable 80% at grade A and A*. Almost all of our sixth form pupils go on to the universities of their choice and we have a long tradition of sending pupils to Oxford and Cambridge. Our pupils shine academically and we are proud of the learning environment we foster. It is one where gifted and talented students can be stretched, but also one which supports and encourages less able pupils and helps them flourish academically. We provide a learning environment where pupils excel – small class sizes, flexibility, a strong culture of discipline, and a positive work ethic. Five key characteristics of our ethos: One – An established heritage of academic excellence: Our GCSE & A-Level results are consistently outstanding, placing us very high in the national rankings. We seek to bring out the potential of every learner, actively looking for personalized strategies to enable everyone to harness their talents. Whilst many high-performing schools focus on making their statistics favorable first, ours are a natural result of genuine individual success, which is a product of excellent teaching and a motivational climate. Two – Small enough to care, but big enough to challenge and inspire: With several hundred pupils, there is a wide range of opportunities open to pupils, to forge valuable friendships which enable them to support one another and delight in learning. Everyone is focused on reaching their goals, resulting in a visible synergy in lessons and study periods. The staff knows pupils well and can provide excellent pastoral care, leading to our learners developing resilience, confidence, and strong self-esteem. Three – An international curriculum with a local emphasis: Our teaching staff plan and deliver a vibrant curriculum, selecting the best subject content and qualifications, combined with a rich variety of activities to develop pupils’ social, moral, spiritual, and cultural knowledge. We take full advantage of our beautiful coastal location and easy transport links to the rest of the UK, which affords us a broad choice of extracurricular options and trips, to take learning beyond the school environment. Four – A home from home: For those who board with us in one of our senior houses, students make St. Michael’s their home from home, studying effectively yet also enjoying our comfortable accommodation and leisure facilities. Our team of dedicated House Parents ensures that study time in the evenings is used wisely – it’s supervised, meaning that classroom learning during the school day is fully consolidated. Moreover, the staff is on hand to support students’ wellbeing and welfare at all times. Five – A family school: Our community is centered on mutual respect for one another, which means standards of conduct and behavior amongst our students are excellent. Family-style values permeate every aspect of school life. It results in a happy and safe environment where everyone can focus on their learning, whilst also building the foundations for future success, resulting in a memorable education with a long-lasting benefit. Five overarching aims: One – We seek to enable all pupils to achieve their academic and personal potential, appropriate to their age, whilst safeguarding their wellbeing. Two – We seek to develop all pupils’ social, moral, spiritual, and cultural knowledge and understanding, whilst also developing their self-esteem and resilience. Three – We seek to provide a learning environment that actively encourages academic excellence, where pupils treat one another with courtesy and show an appreciation for the diversity that we benefit from. Four – We seek to communicate effectively with parents and guardians as well as providing helpful feedback, so that they may support our work, ensuring that home and school strive for a successful partnership. Five – We seek to offer a rich and varied curriculum delivered by caring and sympathetic staff, which not only develops pupils’ subject knowledge but also prepares them appropriately to confidently face the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life.

It was established in 1908 and the Trusteeship is under the control of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus. It became a Voluntary Aided Grammar School in September 1958. St Michael’s is a place of spiritual formation – we recognize that Jesus has taught us that we should “love one another as he loved us” – and this gives a focus to the pastoral support we offer our young people. The prime aim of the school is the formation of responsible and committed Catholic citizens. It seeks to encourage the highest standards in academic achievement, social responsibility, and personal development in a specifically Catholic environment. For our students, their A-Level grades enable them to open doors to the most prestigious universities and courses. This school exists to enable its young people to move on to the next stage of life’s journey, equipped with the qualifications which will lead them to success, but also the skills and attitudes which will enrich their lives and enable them to take up positions of influence in our society – and so change it for the better. 16. St Michael’s C of E Primary School is a two-form entry school that also has a 26 place Nursery Unit within the Early Years Foundation Stage. It is also part of the Bachelor Multi Academy Trust. The school is located in Bartley Green, towards the southwest of Birmingham City Centre. The history of St Michael's School goes back further than that of most Birmingham schools. The school started life as a Sunday school in 1840, becoming Bartley Green Church of England day school in 1844. Here some fifty pupils were taught by one untrained mistress. Our current school building is in an excellent state of repair timberland an inspirational environment in which to learn. In addition, there are extensive outdoor spaces for the children to enjoy. When a child begins their education at the school they will most likely begin in the Nursery before moving into Reception. The Early Years Foundation Stage offers a very wide variety of experiences and opportunities for pupils to express themselves and learn. Our outdoor environment is one of a kind in Birmingham and allows children to explore all areas of the outdoors in a safe but exciting way. Developing pupils’ personal, social and emotional skills are vital and the dedicated team of early year’s staff ensures pupils’ needs are met every day, resulting in good rates of progress. Pupils very quickly develop into confident, independent learners that are well prepared to move into Year 1. In Key Stage 1 a high emphasis is placed on the development of basic skills as this is crucial to success in reading, writing, and mathematics. However, we ensure that pupils receive an exciting broad, and balanced curriculum, and therefore the wider curriculum is something of which we are very proud. In Key Stage 2 the focus on developing pupils’ skills in Literacy and Numeracy and across the curriculum remains a high profile. In addition, pupils continue to receive an exciting curriculum that is creative, fun, and full of interesting and vibrant learning experiences pupils learn to play musical instruments and learn to swim. The school employs a sports coach to facilitate a variety of activities at lunchtime and organize after-school clubs and competitions. Our trophy cabinet is full! St. Michaels aims to: Enable all children to value faith Promote positive, personal qualities Work together as a community Encourage children to become self-motivated and achieve to the best of their ability in all that they do. At St. Michael’s we believe it is important to develop core values by which to live and which help to develop a moral and spiritual awareness. We seek to explore the meanings of the core values and their significance through daily acts of Collective Worship. The gifts of friendship, trust, hope, forgiveness, compassion, and peace are the values we want our children to leave with. Whilst these gifts are inclusive of human values, we try to anchor them into the Christian faith by relating them to the Bible through stories and readings. We attend services at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church at the beginning of every term and to celebrate Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas, Easter, and our Leavers' service, at the end of the school year. Families are welcome to join us for these occasions. We are proud of our strong 'Values Curriculum' at St. Michael's C of E Primary school as everything is underpinned by our school values. It is a school-wide expectation that every member of our team conducts themselves with pride and models these values for others. Values-led learning is enhanced and developed through Personal, Social, Moral, and Health (PSHE) education but it is interwoven into everything we do in our school community, aiming to have any aspect of spiritual, moral, social, or cultural reflection in every lesson. We believe that this deepens self-confidence, appreciation, empathy, respect, and understanding of others every day. Here at St. Michael's, we believe that children learn and flourish when they feel safe and secure, but most of all when they are having fun! We provide an exciting curriculum that allows all children to achieve their greatest potential. Our ultimate aim is for our children to be well prepared to be good citizens within the 21st Century.
  17. "St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations, and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent education." Our Mission and Vision "St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations, and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent education." Our Vision is our medium-term expectation of how we will meet our Mission, create a secure and nurturing Christian environment that values and respects every individual and their beliefs equip children, through an innovative and broad curriculum, with confidence, life skills to reach their full God-given potential partner with home, church and the local community to help children make a positive contribution to God's world. All of this is achieved through our Motto: Working Together for the Good of all”. Many schools will talk about educating the whole child and teaching children to be good citizens – but we believe that being a Church School means much more than that. At St. Michael's all that we do is driven by the Gospel Values – those values taught by Jesus. These values are central to our Mission statement and therefore in all that we do. The Gospel values are embedded in our school ethos in what we do and how we behave as a member of our school community (as staff/ pupils/ parents and governors). Through our acts of worship and the teaching of RE across the school, the children can develop their understanding of what the values mean to them and their future life. Pupils are also confident and can articulate how the school’s values give them "confidence to listen, question, explore and challenge themselves in pursuit of their learning." St. Michael's is a flourishing and forward-thinking outstanding Church school where the leadership and management are a driving force behind the school community embracing and celebrating being a faith school and fulfilling our combined Mission and Vision which underpins all that we do. The leadership and management are strategic in fulfilling the school's Mission and Vision and in so doing, shapes the direction of the school community for the future. As a school, we believe in educating the whole child and teaching children to be good citizens which firmly is underpinned by the Gospel values. St. Michael's CE School works in partnership with Saint Cecilia's Wandsworth under the umbrella of a 'Memorandum of Understanding' to introduce an innovative practice that reflects the school’s Mission and Vision and provides the local community with the opportunity of a whole through Christian education from 4 – 18 years of age. The Leadership and Governors work in partnership to "ensure that the relationship between the school, church, and diocese is supportive and sustainable, enhancing the learning of both pupils and the congregation. It is a link that is widely acknowledged and valued by all members of the school community." The school is currently working with the Advisor from the SDBE to disseminate and share good practices with other schools. The above statement has been quantified by Angela Rundle, our School Link Inspector for the Local Authority, noted and stated in her 'Note of Visit to the Board of Governors: 'St Michael’s continues to be outstanding in all judgment areas. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development is at the heart of the school’s Christian mission and values and enables pupils to thrive and develop to the best of their potential. British values are fully incorporated into worship and classroom discussion.' This continues to be a true reflection of our school and all that it stands for. In 2014 the Department for Education reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual, liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” At St. Michael's it has long been part of our school ethos and mission to promote values that complement our Christian foundation as well as preparing our children for life. We firmly believe in promoting the Fundamental British Values as outlined in the Government's guidelines where it is further stated: "Pupils must be encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, and cultures with respect and tolerance." "It is expected that pupils should understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. At St. Michael’s these values are reinforced regularly and are evidenced in the following ways: At St. Michael’s the pupils have developed a good understanding of our country, its history, and our customs, values, democracy, law, liberty, respect, and tolerance. Furthermore, through the teaching of the national curriculum subjects such as Religious Education, Worship, History and Personal Social Citizenship Health Education (PSHCE) the children have developed around an understanding of the Values and can link them to our school values and life skills. Pupil leadership, through the School Council, School Ambassadors, and Head Boys and Girls Leadership enables pupils to have the opportunity to see how their democratic voice affects the school. All pupils in our school belong to a ‘School House’, which engenders respect, tolerance, and a team spirit. All of these factors contribute to the successful fundamental British Values embedded within our school. The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the new 2014 Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum will be delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.

  19. The Catholic Faith is the most important aspect of St. Michael's Preparatory School, which is run by the Norbertine Fathers of St. Michael's Abbey. Located on the grounds of a thriving Roman Catholic monastery in Southern California, the students attend daily Mass, nightly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and are given 4 years of solid Catholic instruction. During their Junior Year, St. Michael's students visit Rome, the heart of the Catholic world, for two weeks. The number one reason parents send their sons to St. Michael's Preparatory is to be formed in the Catholic Faith. St. Michael's Preparatory School ranks among the top 50 Catholic high schools in the nation. It is the only boarding school on that list. One hundred percent of our graduates go on to higher learning. With a teacher/student ratio of 1:4, every St. Michael student receives an almost personalized academic instruction. St. Michael's Preparatory offers a classical curriculum, including the study of Latin, Logic, and Philosophy. St. Michael's boarding school environment and its single-gender education provide a rich culture that both supports and challenges its students. Living together, studying together, and growing up together, all under the watchful care of Norbertine Priests, the students of St. Michael's Preparatory reach a level of maturity that far surpasses that of their peers. A full sports program rounds off the St.Michael education. All St. Michael’s students plan on going to college. College counseling at St. Michael’s, therefore, focuses on college readiness (in terms of standardized testing), individual and group advisement regarding college choice, and financial aid support for both the student and his family throughout the college decision-making and application process. Individual student appointments during the junior and senior years assist students in doing online college searches and in determining which colleges the student will apply to. Juniors and seniors go on a formal tour of a local college, attend a College Fair Night, and hear presentations by college reps who visit St. Michael’s during the school year. Students may research individual colleges by viewing the college file and scholarship notebook available in the school library. St. Michael’s Preparatory School witnesses to the fullness of the Catholic faith and teaches infidelity to a sound Catholic intellectual tradition. St. Michael’s is exclusively a boarding school for boys, grades nine through twelve, who are capable of benefiting from and contributing to its spiritual and academic community. 23. 24. St. Michael's is a Voluntary Aided three-form entry secondary grammar school for girls. It was established in 1908 and the Trusteeship is under the control of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus. It became a Voluntary Aided Grammar School in September 1958. St. Michael’s is a very special place, it is first and foremost a Catholic school the ethos implanted here by the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus who founded this school and who remain as its trustees continue to this day. The trustees, governors, and staff remain committed to enabling our students to become the person God intended them to be supporting them to make sense of this complex world and to seek out their unique purpose in life. As a Catholic School, we aim to provide a Catholic education for all our pupils. At our School Catholic doctrine and practice permeate every aspect of the School’s activity. The Catholic character of the School’s education must be fully supported by all families in the School. All applicants are therefore expected to give their full, unreserved, and positive support for the aims and ethos of the School. It is a compact school comprising five adjacent buildings of widely contrasting styles the Sixth Form Centre is The Grange, an adapted 19th-century private house with a lawn and surrounded by trees to which a Resource Centre was added in 1999 the lower school, a stone building from the early 1900s the main School built in the 1950s the Sports Hall built-in 2008. St. Michael’s is also a place of intellectual exploration and achievement. This school is extraordinarily successful – this has been recognized by Ofsted on numerous occasions and every year our students achieve outstanding A-Level and GCSE results. Whilst the results are impressive – the true value of these results is what our students can do with them. St Michael’s is a Catholic school in which Gospel values inform all aspects of community life. We are distinguished by the quality of education and care extended to all those in the school community. Each person is recognized as an individual and everybody is valued and enabled to fulfill their potential. In partnership with the wider community, we are prepared to make full use of all the opportunities available so that we are all freed to become the individuals God wishes us to be, and to create a better world.
