  1. Keimyung University was founded in 1954 by Reverend Edward Adams, an American missionary of the Northern Presbyterian Church of the United States. Reverends Choi Jaehwa and Kang Ingu, two local Presbyterian Church leaders. The founding principle guiding their concerted efforts was to provide Koreans with higher education firmly anchored in Christianity. The university's opening also reflected the perceived need for higher education as a vehicle with which to reconstruct the war-ravaged nation and a means of perpetuating the time-honored spirit of the Korean people. Keimyung University (KMU) is a private university in South Korea. Its motto is 'For the Kingdom of Truth, Justice, and Love'. KMU is composed of three campuses in the city of Daegu, South Korea. They are named for their locations within the city Daemyeong, which is near the downtown area, Seongseo, which is in the western part of the city, and also Dongsan campus, which includes Dongsan Medical Center. The founding principle guiding their concerted efforts was to provide Koreans with higher education firmly anchored in Christianity. 1978, the year of Keimyung's elevation to the status of a university, marked the beginning of a new period of rapid development. In October 1980, the university merged with the Dongsan Presbyterian Hospital, a prestigious local hospital with an 81-year history of service, and re-opened it as Keimyung University Medical Center. The development of Keimyung acquired a new dimension in the early 1980s when it added a new campus built on 550,000 pyeong (181,500 sq. meters) at Seongseo in Sindang-dong, Daleo-gu, to its existing Daemyeong and Dongsan campuses. Many difficulties lie ahead of you, including challenging classwork at the university and the economic recession outside. But you will never neglect the will to strive for the best and, perhaps more importantly, never to be afraid of failure. A failure in the process of pursuing one's goal with a brave and pioneering spirit is something that only the young are entitled to. Besides, Keimyung offers a variety of programs to help you successfully tackle the obstacles. Keimyung's government-sponsored projects and specialized education programs will help you pursue your dreams. Keimyung's overseas outreach programs and other initiatives will serve as catalysts in your development as global citizens. Do not fear uncertainty and new adventures, and actively participate in those programs to turn your difficulties into opportunities. Keimyung University achieved a great deal last year. Students of the Engineering College won perhaps one of the most prestigious self-driving vehicle competitions in Korea. Nearly 100% of the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing passed the national qualification examinations. The students of the Department of Sino-Korean Literature Education who passed the national teacher qualification examination accounted for 30% of all the successful candidates in the field in entire Korea. Moreover, students of the College of Music and Performing Arts successfully ventured into the international arena, winning prestigious contests in music, fashion, and the arts. This demonstrates your unlimited potential and confirms that we are progressing in the right direction with the right sense of purpose. We achieved a great deal last year.
