  1. Irfan College is a co-educational independent Islamic school located in the Southwest Sydney suburb of Cecil Park. Our College was established in 2013 with 28 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and currently services over 250 students from Kindergarten to Year 9. The term 'Irfan' is a verbal noun that comes from the root verb (a'rafa), which means 'to be cognisant.' There are three terms in the Islamic tradition that is near related to one another ('ilm - Knowledge), (hikmah - wisdom), and ('Irfan - cognizance). Wisdom is the product of combining knowledge with action, and cognizance combines knowledge with love. Irfan, in this instance, is the culmination and highest order of knowledge. Irfan College is grounded in a student-centered philosophy. Most independent schools tend to solely prioritize prospective students' academic/intellectual capabilities in their student selection criteria. Allah (SWT) has created every student with a unique mold who has various strengths and talents. It is our duty as educators to identify our students' strengths, whether they be academic, social, physical, psychological, emotional, or spiritual, and develop learning programs that accommodate each student to help them flourish. Our mid to long-term goal for our current campus in Cecil Park is to house 300 students, a single stream school from Kindergarten to Year 12. This allows us to offer students and families a personalized form of education. We aim to have our first graduates by the year 2021. The physical setting of our College provides students with space and beauty. Our master plan has been developed to provide students with the best possible learning experiences. Our students currently receive their learning in demountable. We are constructing our first conventional building that will serve students in Years 4-9, commencing in 2017. The building will also include a fully-equipped science lab for our secondary students. From 2017 onward, our College faculties will include a Science lab, Visual Arts Room, Technology Lab, Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Room, Daar ul-Irfan Library, multipurpose hall, to name just a few. We aim to have all our facilities in conventional and modular buildings by 2021. Our Curriculum is derived from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) mandated Australian Curriculum and specialist subjects that include LOTE, Islamic Studies, and Qur'an Studies. Please refer to our Primary and Secondary Curriculum pages for more information regarding our College curriculum. Our College celebrates a multicultural student population with over 15 ethnicities constituting our student makeup. All of our students fall into the 'English as An Additional Language/Dialect' (EALD) background, which is a testament to our diversity. Whole-school pedagogies and instructional methods such as phonemic awareness and reading comprehension are developed to cater to our student needs. Our Vision is Raising thinkers & leaders who have confidence in their Australian-Muslim identity, with a deeply rooted motivation to do good in the world actively. Our Mission Move from being a young Islamic school to a nurturing and supportive place of holistic learning. We will achieve this by creating a culture of effective and passionate teaching built on positive relationships and sincere concern for each student, embedded in an Islamic framework. Our Curriculum is comprised of the core learning experiences mandated by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and other specialist subjects. We believe that it is essential to combine the skills and knowledge gained in each Key Learning Area (KLA) with the values and the principles of Islam to provide holistic education.
