  1. Welcome to the College. Clifford Holroyde Specialist SEN College provides a very caring environment where students are supported to achieve their potential. We are very proud of all the staff at the College in how they are fully committed to helping each young person make progress and develop necessary life skills. Our last Ofsted report commented on this stating that ‘One of the most striking things about Clifford Holroyde is the total commitment of every member of staff to improving the life chances of boys in the school’. Clifford Holroyde supports students who have social, emotional, and mental health needs. Each student at the college is treated as an individual and has a specific support package to meet their individual needs. Due to the very effective relationships and the high quality of teaching, the vast amount of pupils make good progress in attainment, learning, and attendance compared to their previous school. We are proud of the successful and inclusive teaching and support that the college provides and how the teachers engage and motivate the students to achieve. We have a variety of educational packages available enabling all students to have individualized programs to help them to develop and make good progress in their learning. Clifford Holroyde is an all-boys secondary school for 50 pupils with Behavioural, Social, and Mental Health problems. Pupils are referred to us via the Local Authority and our intake is citywide. Clifford Holroyde achieved High Performing Specialist Status in 2008 which means our expertise in the field of Behaviour and Applied Learning has been recognized by the D.F.E. Clifford Holroyde also operates a very successful and effective Outreach Service which supports mainstream schools within the central zone of the city. At Clifford Holroyde, we: Care Reflect Inspire The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organize to promote learning and personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organizes to enrich the experience of the children. It also includes the ‘hidden curriculum, or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills so that they achieve their true potential. Our curriculum is underpinned by the values that we aim to engender in school. The curriculum is how the school achieves its objective of educating children in the knowledge, skills, and understanding that they need to lead fulfilling lives. At Key Stage 3, the curriculum at the College places a great emphasis on the core and foundation subjects and we teach these subjects separately. This means that, for example, a child may concentrate in one term on a history topic, then switch to a greater emphasis on geography in the next term. Over the three terms of the academic year, each child has the opportunity to experience the full range of National Curriculum subjects.
