Herbert Thompson is a large primary school on the west side of Cardiff, meeting the needs of children of all abilities aged 4-11. We have a Flying Start provision on-site, which caters to children aged 2-3. We are very proud to serve such a tight-knit community in Ely. We are a family at Herbert Thompson and the foundations of our school are built upon care, love, and respect for one another. We are passionate about building positive relationships between pupils, staff, parents, the Local Authority, Consortium, and the wider community. Our extensive links with our community ensure that our children benefit from and are inspired by a range of extracurricular activities and events. Our school mission statement is: “Find your talents and let them grow. Be the person you’d like to know.”Our vision for the future is based around the unwavering belief that our community will live with positive values and behaviors and have the skills and aspirations to live happy and successful futures. We have six core values that drive us every day and are role modeled through all that we do. These are: Respect Care Determination Security Diversity Achievement As a school, we have the highest expectations and are fully committed to striving to improve our practice. We are very proud to be a Welsh Government Pioneer School and Central South Consortium School Improvement Hub, providing a range of professional development opportunities from Initial Teacher Training through to Leadership Programmes. The school is the first school in Cardiff to receive the National Quality Award for Healthy Schools and has also won the ICT Mark, the Gold Cardiff Arts Mark, the International Inspiration Award, and the Investors in Families Award, amongst many others. At Herbert Thompson with such incredible children and such passionate, talented, and dedicated staff who truly believe in the value and potential of all our children. The professionalism, skills, and expertise of the staff are second to none and We are constantly inspired by their enthusiasm and drive. The impact of this can be seen by the positive ethos and atmosphere of our school. It gives me great pleasure to see how happy our children are every day and to witness the excellent progress they make as they move through school. -
