About Me

  1. The land that is now the site of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler has a rich history of commitment and dedication to patient care and community health. From its early beginnings in 1943 as the 1,000-bed Camp Fannin Army hospital site during World War II through decades of fighting against pulmonary diseases like tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and asbestosis, UT Health Science Center has served the citizens of Texas with distinction. Great strides have been made in subsequent years, advancing healthcare through biomedical research one discovery at a time in scientific areas including lung injury and repair, infectious lung diseases, and cancer, to name just a few ongoing research projects. Today, the biomedical research conducted at UT Health Science Center is nationally recognized and competitively funded by private foundations, non-profit organizations, the Centers for Disease Control, and the gold standard of research support – the National Institutions of Health. As UT Health Science Center continues to make its dreams a reality, the tradition of excellence and public service that began with a barracks hospital 75 years ago remains a core commitment today. With exceptional patient care, comprehensive education, and innovative research, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and UT Health East Texas combine to serve as the university medical center for Northeast Texas and beyond. A shield defends our communities in Northeast Texas. It protects our health today and safeguards our health and wellness for the future. It stands stalwart between the people we care about and the illnesses, epidemics, and hazards that threaten them. That shield is The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Our academic mission is a shield forged of three parts – graduate medical education, graduate education, and biomedical and clinical research. Three integral, interconnected components joined unlike anywhere else in Northeast Texas. As the region's only university medical center, UT Health Science Center is home to some of the latest developments in patient care and community health, medical and health education, and biomedical and clinical research. Only about five percent of hospitals qualify as university medical centers. However, this small group of elite institutions is our nation's primary conduit between first-rate patient care, education, research, and the communities we serve. There is a physician shortage in rural counties throughout Northeast Texas. That is why the UT Health Science Center trains the next generation of doctors. Both locally and globally, new and familiar diseases continue to threaten countless lives. That is why UT Health Science Center conducts biomedical and clinical research and trains much-needed future scientists to understand and combat these diseases and infections. Complex problems require sophisticated, modern solutions. That is why UT Health Science Center trains graduate biotechnology students to lead the innovation revolution at the forefront of modern science. Northeast Texas is the sickest and most rural region in the state with profoundly unfavorable health disparities. That is why UT Health Science Center trains public health graduate students to establish systematic, long-term health education and wellness initiatives to promote health for those who need these programs the most. This comprehensive approach makes UT Health Science Center the first and best hope to fortify the long-term health and wellness of Northeast Texas. The challenges we face are significant, but our resolve is more significant at the UT Health Science Center. Every day at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, we look to our mission and vision to guide our education, research, and patient care initiatives. In partnership with communities across our region, we are improving individuals' and communities' health. We will be a great institution, unified in common purpose, to benefit human health and improve life quality.h other universities, industries, and businesses. The office coordinates externally funded research projects that support research development, post-award management, and technology commercialization. It represents the UT System's interests, the university president, and the university community in their relationships with external funding agencies and sponsors. View full university

Employing more than 6,000 people on its faculty, staff, and not-for-profit corporation faculty practice groups, UTHSC contributes more than $4 billion to Tennessee's economy. As the largest academic health science center in the southeastern United States, we are delighted you have decided to visit us. As you know, UTHSC is a special place. We have six (6) colleges offering undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and professional options. We hope that one of them is right for you. The University of Tennessee System, through its multiple campuses and institutes, serves the people of Tennessee and beyond through the discovery, communication, and application of knowledge. The System is committed to providing undergraduate, graduate, and professional education programs in a diverse learning environment that prepares students to be global society leaders. The UT System's delivery of education, discovery, outreach, and public service contributes to all Tennesseans' economic, social, and environmental well-being. UTHSC Online offers convenience and accessibility as students pursue their educational goals around their busy schedules. Online graduate programs are offered in dentistry, health professions, graduate health sciences, and nursing. The Financial Aid Office strives for high student satisfaction by promptly providing information and resources while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and institutional policies. As a current or prospective UTHSC student, you have many rights and responsibilities. We want to highlight some of the critical rights and responsibilities relevant to current policies and procedures. Advancing research and economic development is at the core of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center's mission. Research funding has directly contributed to UTHSC's long record of necessary science accomplishments, applied clinical and translational research, and public health, allowing us to continue our contributions to the health of the Memphis-area community. Through collaborative relationships with health care partnerships like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, we are well-positioned to pave the way for innovative patient-centered research and development with a clinical and translational focus. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center's Memphis campus comprises six colleges – Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Clinically, UTHSC faculty practice groups contribute more than $300 million annually to the statewide mission. These practice groups serve as the core faculty for all of our partner teaching hospitals. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center recognizes the value of having an inclusive environment in which individuals from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, races and ethnicities, physical and mental abilities, ages, creeds, cultures, and prior work/life experiences can learn and work together in an environment that values differences. To foster this environment, UTHSC has developed a series of guidelines for selecting students for its academic programs. Diversity provides essential benefits for the educational enterprise, enriching experiences in the classroom and clinical settings and facilitating students' preparation for the different types of environments they may be asked to serve – rural/ urban, affluent/underserved multi-cultural/traditional, etc. Thus, the campus actively encourages applications from individuals who bring unique perspectives to its programs. Admission criteria for academic programs will continue to emphasize academic excellence. However, additional non-academic factors will also be considered and some additional consideration given to applications from qualified individuals from groups that are underrepresented in the health care professions or from counties in Tennessee that are traditionally underserved by the health care professions, from veterans, from other non-traditional students and from students who represent the first in their families to pursue higher education. UTHSC holds a yearly Campus Food Drive and United Way Campaign to help others and strengthen our community. Health Career Programs (HCP) prepares the next generation of individuals to become culturally competent and relevant healthcare professionals and educators. The Clinica Esperanza is a primary care clinic run by UTHSC College of Medicine students, residents, and faculty that offers free services to underserved, uninsured Latino adults. The Rachel Kay Stevens Therapy Center is a student-run pro bono clinic founded to serve the underinsured or uninsured children of the Mid-South from birth to 18 years. In 1911, the University of Tennessee launched its Memphis campus, dedicating it solely to health science education and research. Seed programs in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy quickly flourished, and within a few short years, new programs were initiated in health professions, graduate health sciences, and nursing. Each of those programs grew to become a college in its own right. In 1963, the UT Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, based at the UT Medical Center, became part of the UT Health Science Center. In 1974, the UT College of Medicine in Chattanooga, based at Erlanger Health System, joined the UTHSC System. In 2014, Saint Thomas Health in Nashville began collaborating with UTHSC to create a Nashville campus. View full university

WesternU is one of the largest graduate schools for the health professions in California. Alumni rank among the top leaders in health care and medicine throughout the country and the world. The University is home to more than 3,800 students in nine health sciences colleges and 20-degree programs, and more than 1,100 employees. Its main campus in Southern California is one of the most thriving enterprises in the Pomona and Inland valleys. WesternU Pomona, encompassing 22 acres, has helped transform downtown Pomona into a thriving mix of retail, commercial and educational enterprises. The University also operates an osteopathic medical campus in the Pacific Northwest, in Lebanon, Oregon. This campus, known as COMP-Northwest, welcomed its inaugural class of 107 osteopathic medical students in July 2011 and has grown to more than 400. All healthcare programs have professional accreditations, and the Accrediting Commission accredits the University for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. To continue to flourish as a pioneering institution that has enjoyed phenomenal growth, we must build on our foundation in humanistic health sciences, The WesternU Way – the caring, respect, empathy, and trust that have ever made us so innovative, audacious, and nimble. This bedrock of values informs all that we do, ensuring our work is ever a beacon that reflects compassion as we serve our communities. The University must strengthen its strategic pillars to elaborate and evolve our mission. Thus, across the next five and ten years, we can build on Big Opportunities carefully selected from an array of beautiful possibilities. Hand-in-hand with our core mission of educating future health care practitioners, the Western University of Health Sciences will foster rapid evolution of crucial aspects of governance and operations so that our missions of education, research, and service continue to flourish abundantly. Our mission is “To produce, in a humanistic tradition, health care professionals and biomedical knowledge that will enhance and extend the quality of life in our communities.” Western University of Health Sciences holds a unique place in the firmament of American higher education. Founded on a philosophy of humanistic, compassionate care – and often propelled by little more than optimism, energy, and ideas – the University has over 41 years evolved from one small College in a single building, with a handful of students and faculty, into the most comprehensive graduate health sciences university in the United States. Western University of Health Sciences embarked on a special mission when it opened its doors in 1977 as the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP): educating tomorrow’s health care professionals with a combination of scientific excellence and a humanistic, compassionate approach to patient care. From an inaugural class of 36 students in 1978, enrollment in the College grew to more than 400 by 1986. That same year, the Master of Science in Health Professions Education program paved the way for what would become the College of Health Sciences. Meanwhile, the University continued acquiring former Pomona Mall buildings, remodeling them, and converting them to educational use. The campus kept growing over the next decade, with enrollment jumping dramatically in 1996 when the addition of a College of Pharmacy coincided with the campus’ name change to Western University of Health Sciences. 1998 was another landmark year for WesternU, as the College of Graduate Nursing was founded in March, and the College of Veterinary Medicine – the first veterinary College in Southern California, and still one of only two such colleges in the state – was established just five months later. WesternU’s first foundation-up construction project, the Veterinary Clinical Center, opened its doors in August 2008. The University welcomed inaugural classes in three new colleges — Dental Medicine, Optometry, and Podiatric Medicine. In conjunction with that academic expansion, the University further expanded the physical campus, erecting a 180,000-square-foot Health Education Center, a Patient Care Center, and a 600-car parking garage. A ninth school, the Graduate College of Biomedical Sciences, welcomed its inaugural class in January 2010. The University ventured north in 2011, opening a campus of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Lebanon, Oregon. COMP-Northwest has an enrollment of 400 medical students and a staff of 70. It graduated its first class of 100 osteopathic physicians in June 2015. 2016 also was an essential milestone in WesternU history, as the University welcomed just the second permanent president in its history. Following the retirement of Founding President Philip Pumerantz, Ph.D., in September 2015, and a national search, the University’s Board of Trustees appointed Daniel R. Wilson, MD, Ph.D., as president in March 2016. Dr. Wilson, formerly Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Florida Health Science Center and Dean of the College of Medicine-Jacksonville, officially took office in July 2016 and is formally inaugurated in August 2017. Today, WesternU is home to more than 3,900 students in 21 programs and 1,200 employees. It is one of the most thriving enterprises in the Pomona and Inland valleys of Southern California and the mid-Willamette Valley of Oregon. View full university

  13. Since the year 1800, several healthcare schools and medical courses have been operating in Tallinn, where midwives, nurses, and doctor's assistants have been trained. Continual training for health care specialties started in 1940 when the Nurses' School was opened. After consolidation with the Assistant Physicians' school, the Tallinn Medical Secondary School was established. October 16th, 1940, is considered to be the official birthday of our College. In 1943 due to World War II, the School of Assistant Physicians and Midwifery was temporarily transferred to Tambov, Russia. But in 1944, the school continued working in Estonia in the former building of the Nursing School in Tallinn, Pärnu road 104. In 1945 the school was renamed the Tallinn Republican Medical Secondary School. The school offered study programs in five specialties: assistant physician, midwife, assistant pharmacist, dental technician, and nurse. On September 2nd, 1946, 11 assistant physician-midwives, one assistant physician, and 20 nurses graduated. From December 7th, 1964, the school was renamed the Tallinn Medical School - the school's name up to 2005. During the 70 years of the school's existence, professional education has been provided in 11 health care specialties according to the Estonian labor market's needs. Since 1992, the admission of students is accepted only based on secondary education. In 1996, nurses' training at the level of higher vocational education started; during the following years, the same level was achieved in a midwife, pharmacist, and dental technician specialties. In 1998, the training for a new specialty - optometrist - was launched. Two more professional higher education curricula were opened during the next years - occupational therapist and radiology technician. In cooperation with the Estonian Nurses Union (now the Estonian Nurses Association) and the Ministry of Social Affairs, the advanced study course for nurses was started in 1998, advanced studies for midwives and dental technicians followed in 2002. In the autumn of 2002, all the curricula were corrected and approved by the Ministry of Education and Research as the professional higher education curricula. During the academic year 2003/2004, nurse assistants' training at the level of secondary vocational education was started again. From 2005, the school was reorganized into an applied higher education institution and renamed Tallinn Health College. The title of our College changed slightly in February 2009; now it is Tallinn Health Care College. Today, the College provides professional higher education in eight fields. Currently, nurses and health nurses, midwives, dental technicians, optometrists, assistant pharmacists, occupational therapists, and health promotion specialists are underway. The number of students has continuously increased. Currently, more than 1200 students are taught in the College. Tallinn Health Care College has actively been participating in international cooperation and education programs; we have cooperation in Lifelong Learning Programmes Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig, Nordplus, Tempus, Interreg, etc. One of the most popular programs is the Erasmus program in which the participation of students and staff is very active in our College. The hard work in this project has also provided plenty of achievements, one of them being the silver medal in Erasmus teacher exchange from 2008, which we consider an essential milestone in our College's history. The College shall provide professional higher education, vocational education and training, and in-service training. Student workload in professional higher education studies for persons with vocational education in the same profession shall be 120 ECTS credits. We’re blessed with faculty members who understand and live our core values – knowledge, reverence, integrity, compassion, and excellence – and are committed to creating a caring environment conducive to learning. They are highly motivated and skilled healthcare practitioners comfortable in the latest technology and evidenced-based practices in their specialty area of healthcare and skilled educators ready to help you learn. Our fulltime liberal arts and sciences faculty members are Ph.D.-prepared and adept at integrating their subject matter into a comprehensive health science curriculum. Our alumni go everywhere and are among the best in their field. They embark upon healthcare careers across the nation and around the world. They also stay right here in Iowa to take care of those within our own community. You might be surprised to learn that in addition to regional accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission, we maintain professional program accreditations with nine additional accrediting bodies in the United States. Our efforts today are a direct reflection of the work of a dedicated group of religious women, the Religious Sisters of Mercy (RSM), who arrived in Des Moines in 1893 to establish the city’s first hospital. Six years later they needed more help, so they launched an educational program that now embodies Mercy College of Health Sciences. We are so proud of our association with the legacy that the Sisters have passed on to us and hold firmly to the core values they cherish. To be a national leader for excellence in the delivery and innovation of health sciences education. Mercy College of Health Sciences prepares graduates for service and leadership in the healthcare community by integrating its core values with a professional and liberal arts and sciences education. 23. In addition to six undergraduate bachelor degree programs, the Hochschule für Gesundheit Bochum (University of Applied Sciences), founded in November 2009 in Bochum, also offers an extra-occupational bachelor degree program and a consecutive masters degree program in health care. The hsg is the only state university in Germany to offer the five health care professions of occupational therapy, midwifery, speech and language therapy, nursing, and physiotherapy as undergraduate bachelor degree programs. The Department of Applied Health Sciences offers these five-degree programs and the master's degree program 'Evidence-based Health Care.' The Department of Community Health also offers the full-time degree program 'Health and Diversity Studies' and the extra-occupational degree program 'Community Health Care.' The house's unique features are a modern didactic concept, the close interlocking of theory and practice, early networking with external practice partners, and intensive support during studies. As a Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia partner, the hsg opens up extensive perspectives for its students in the growing health care sector. With the conception of master's degree programs, the hsg also offers its graduates the possibility to further scientifically qualify themselves beyond the bachelor's degree. A program of study at the high is completed by bachelor students of the Department of Applied Health Sciences with the academic degree of "Bachelor of Science" and the state exams by the valid vocational laws. This dual qualification is something extraordinary at a state university in Germany. All bachelor students of the Department of Applied Health Sciences attend interdisciplinary and specialist events in their respective degree programs in all semesters. In this way, the hsg prepares its students for the rapidly changing and increasingly flexible work and performance requirements in the health care system. In the future, the joint action of various professional groups will be an essential prerequisite for the population's optimal care. This inter-professional competence of the individual health care professions is acquired at the house to cooperate with the five-degree programs. The students of the Department of Community Health are engaged in themes of health and the possible limitation of the access of individuals and groups to health care services ('Health and Diversity ') or the designing of spaces and environments, so-called accommodations, for older or sick people, or people with disabilities, and this always from a health perspective ('Community Health Care'). The unique feature of the extra-occupational degree program 'Community Health Care' lies in the possibility of continued training of those already working in health care professions. Both degree programs of the Department of Community Health conclude with the academic degree of "Bachelor of Arts," thus offering the possibility to acquire a further scientific qualification in a master's degree program. In 2015, the University moved to its new building on the 48,500 m2 grounds of the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia in Bochum. The foundation stone of the new building, in which 1,300 students of the hsg can be accommodated, was laid at the end of September 2012. The Healthcare Campus Bochum agency, formerly midlands.RUHR has visualized the developments in the BioMedizinPark Bochum and at the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia in a 3D animation film. 24. The University was established in 2001 to train future health professionals in health and social welfare sciences. Currently, more than 4,000 graduates are working, not only in Japan but also in foreign countries, as "QOL (quality of life) supporters" involved in the care of the elderly, patients undergoing medical treatment, and the disabled. Fostering "qualified QOL supporters" has been our School's primary emphasis since its foundation. The Undergraduate School has four faculties consisting of eleven departments. In the Faculty of Medical Technology, the departments include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Prosthetics & Orthotics and Assistive Technology Clinical Engineering and Medical Technology and Orthoptics and Visual Sciences, which was newly instituted in 2014. In the Faculty of Health Science, the departments include Health and Nutrition, Health and Sports, and Nursing. The Faculty of Social Welfare consists of a single department, the Department of Social Welfare. The fourth faculty is the Faculty of Healthcare Management, which consists of the Department of Health Informatics. There are about 3,400 students now taking a wide range of courses in these faculties. Our graduate school started in 2005 and now has four master's courses with majors in Rehabilitation Sciences (Master of Rehabilitation Science), Social Welfare (Master of Social Work), Health Sciences (Master of Health Science), and Health Informatics and Business Administration (Master of Health Informatics and Business Administration), which was just established. The School has one doctoral course with a major in Health and Welfare (Doctor of Health Science). Out of 102 students, 74 are in the master's courses and 28 in the doctoral course, as of April 1, 2014. As a matter of educational policy, we pay special attention to interprofessional education (IPE). It is necessary for students to participate in a learning system shared with different professional trainees based on the multi-disciplinary healthcare team's concept and to understand the roles of the different professions within the team. IPE can increase patient satisfaction and a reduction in medical expenditures. With the increase of globalization in the form of the influx of health care professionals into Japan from abroad and vice versa, the IPE has been becoming more important than ever for students and professionals in health-related fields. We want to encourage students with scientific interests in improving people's health to become "qualified QOL supporters" with the intent to work worldwide in the future. We have been conducting collaborative research with international professionals, especially those from countries in Asia and the Pacific region. Therefore, we are looking forward to producing modern scientific and technological achievements with the international community of health professionals who share a common interest in health science and health care. Basic Goals for NUHW: To foster health professionals who will work not only in the super-aged society but also in the upcoming global society in Japan, we aim to increase students from 2800 to 5000 within ten years. To produce qualified QOL supporters who will work in the super-aged society and the upcoming global society in Japan, we provide educational support for all our students and graduates. They can work not only in local communities but also in many parts of the world. Also, we provide the basis for education and research according to the following ten domains (refer to the table below). Long-term Goals (2010-2020) Mid-term Goals (2014-2017) View full university
  25. Our university motto is "the spirit of service in which one must live through the path of great value to society." Our forerunner Kansai Vocational School of Acupuncture and Massage, was founded in May 1957 by Takeo Takeda on the above motto. The school's goals were to cultivate excellent acupuncture and massage skills and develop these therapies in Osaka. In April 1985, the three-year Kansai College of Oriental Medicine was established, evolved into Kansai University of Oriental Medicine as a four-year university in April 2003. In April 2007, the name of our university was changed to Kansai University of Health Sciences. At the same time, the Graduate School of Kansai University of Health Sciences (Master's Course) was established. We established various affiliated medical institutions to provide clinical education in high-level integrative medicine and contribute to the local health care. The Attached Clinic provides specialized medical services based on Western medicine. The Attached Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic, the Attached Satellite Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinic in Wakayama, and the Attached Judo Therapy Clinic offer medical care based on traditional Oriental medicine. These clinics also provide clinical practice, training, and research for students, graduate students, and medical professionals. Under the existing circumstances, we believe that it is essential to help students develop into medical personnel with the requisite skills for emergency medical care at the scene of earthquakes, tsunamis, and other disasters. Presently, Japanese society is rapidly aging at speed unprecedented in the world. Various diseases are seen in the elderly, and the metabolic syndrome and stress-related diseases such as depression that reflects modern society are rapidly increasing in number. Western medicine, which focuses on specialized and fractionalized medical treatment, is too analytical to cope with diseases' structural change. Therefore, we consider it essential to carry out our mission of producing medical professionals who will become leaders in the field of integrative medicine. The Mayo Clinic in the United States is a world-renowned medical institution and one we aim to emulate as an ideal health center. The Mayo Clinic aims to achieve "ultimate hospitality." Its logo and mark feature the three shields, representing the clinic's three primary objectives: the most extensive and central shield represents "care of patients," and the other two smaller shields represent medical research and education, respectively. The clinic's motto, "The needs of patients come first," is a century-old brand and announces the principle that guides all its medical practices. On the principle that "Medicine is a cooperative science, requiring collaboration and teamwork," the Mayo Clinic practices the ultimate world-class medicine. At our university, under our founding motto, "Living through the path of great value to society," we, too, stand firm by "the spirit of service" that puts the needs of patients first and commits us to produce medical researchers and practitioners who can observe the highest ethical standards and cooperate with their colleagues.
