About Me

  1. For over 40 years, Green Mountain Valley School has been dedicated to supporting one very clear mission: fostering a life-long love of learning, sport, and adventure within competitive skiers. Our goal has always been to create an environment where students are encouraged to become well-rounded scholars and citizens. Founded in 1973, GMVS stands apart as a unique educational institution. GMVS is not just a school or a ski club, it’s a lifestyle. A lifestyle that celebrates the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and athletics all while cultivating a life-long love of learning, an adventurous spirit, grit, and determination – character traits that will prepare graduates to confidently and wisely impact the world. At Green Mountain Valley School, our goals go beyond providing exceptional training in alpine and Nordic ski racing with our strong college preparatory academic program. We put ski racing and studies into the broader perspective of competition and adventure. We know that the patterns of accomplishment carry over into every aspect of a student-athlete's life, especially after graduation. Living and learning at GMVS is about far more than just skiing or school. It’s about being a passionate and lifelong athlete. It’s about becoming intellectually challenged and eternally curious, being simultaneously independent and community-minded, persevering and doing far more than you think you can achieve. It’s a place, despite our focus on skiing, where you do not have to sacrifice your dreams of academic greatness, your passion for other sports, or your commitment to the arts. Here you can truly be “all you can be.” Our results and facilities are the visible embodiment of the GMVS mission and success. Yet, what might be a bit less visible are the relationships embedded in the fabric of our school that support these endeavors. GMVS alumni have gone on to become World Cup athletes and Olympians, to thrive at some of the country’s most selective colleges and universities, and to build careers as actors, CEOs, photographers, health care professionals, and entrepreneurs. Most importantly, our alumni continue to cite the values instilled in them here at GMVS as catalysts for their successes. Our goal as a ski academy is to recognize that one can compete at the highest level athletically and simultaneously pursue academic excellence. While the athletic program trains students for world-class competition, the teaching staff prepares students for a future beyond skiing. Our program encourages students to explore their interests in many areas. In addition to a full college preparatory curriculum in English, history and social sciences, foreign languages, math, and science, GMVS offers extracurricular opportunities in theater, music, and the visual arts. Students individually plan their academic schedules in consultation with the Director of Academics, their coach, and the College Placement Counselor. Courses and course load are selected based on academic preparedness, ability, and the demands of each student’s travel schedule, not necessarily by age or grade levels. GMVS continues to offer the traditional core courses as well as a variety of electives, opportunities for honors, and advanced work. Students are required to pass basic skills courses before moving on to advanced courses. Small classes encourage preparation, involvement, and performance. Course loads are demanding, and teachers maintain high standards so that students stretch the limits of their potential. At the same time, our 5:1 student to teacher ratio enables staff to adjust those standards to individual students, taking into consideration learning style, college goals, and racing schedule. Teachers mentor students to ensure mastery of class material and they teach students how to balance the demands on their time. Teachers work closely with each other as well, developing interdisciplinary projects that reinforce subject material. Our Learning Support Skills accelerate student learning by providing additional customized support beyond what the classroom teachers and advisors offer. The programs recognize students’ talents while helping them acquire skills and strategies to become independent lifelong learners. These individualized programs are designed to enhance a student’s reading, writing, organization, time management, and study skills allowing the student to effectively demonstrate understanding at GMVS and in college.
  2. Wilkes Green Junior School is a larger than average-sized Primary School for boys and girls between seven and eleven years of age situated in the heart of Handsworth. Many pupils live beyond the immediate area served by the school. The school can admit up to 90 pupils into each year group. The school population of 360 reflects the varied ethnic backgrounds of the local families. Wilkes Green Junior School believes in the importance of providing a caring, stimulating, and structured environment, within which children are encouraged to develop relevant skills, concepts, and knowledge. Building upon the child’s existing cultural, social, and educational experience, the school seeks to ensure that each child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The school seeks to develop in each child a sense of responsibility and self-discipline, an ability to co-operate with and relate to adults and other children, the ability to work independently and with self-motivation, a sense of positive self-esteem, physical skills, and a range of academic skills and knowledge. These elements should be relevant to the child’s existing needs as well as preparing him/her for future school experience and adult life. An important aspect of this is the ability to live and work successfully within a multi-cultural society and to value and contribute to the communities of which they are apart. Wilkes Green Junior school aims for our pupils to: Develop lively and enquiring minds. Question and debate rationally. Apply themselves diligently to tasks. Use language and numbers effectively. Understand the world in which they live. Experience success and achievement. Progress to the full extent of their ability. Be aware of equal opportunities for all and develop their talents irrespective of gender, religion, ethnic origin, or family circumstances. At Wilkes Green Junior School we are a caring community working together for quality and success in education for all our pupils. Our Core Values: We seek to develop in each child a sense of responsibility and self-discipline. We want our pupils to develop an ability to co-operate with and relate to adults and other children. We strive to develop in our pupils the ability to work independently and with self-motivation, engendering a sense of positive self-esteem. We encourage our pupils to constantly develop their physical skills and increase their range of academic skills and knowledge. We continually prepare our children for future school experiences and adult life. We endeavor to prepare our pupils to live and work successfully within a multi-cultural society and to value and contribute to the communities of which they are part. At the heart of every school is Teaching & Learning. The school works strenuously to maintain high standards to provide the very teaching and learning facilities for all our children. The school has a comprehensive ‘curriculum map’ tightly fitted to pupils’ different needs and in which different levels of planning are dovetailed very well. The curriculum is thoroughly evaluated so it is being constantly refined and improved. Physical education makes a very strong contribution to pupils’ healthy lifestyles. A very wide range of partners is used to enrich sporting and cultural opportunities. A fitness program is provided in conjunction with a local football club using both the school and the club’s premises. The curriculum is very sensitively attuned to pupils’ literacy and numeracy progress and needs so that resources, the organization of small group teaching, and other supports are very purposefully utilized. Lunchtime and after-school clubs are immensely popular and well supported and include a brass band and a tabla and sitar music group. Pupils benefit from highly memorable experiences that best support their learning, development, and well-being.’ The school’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator ensures that there are strategies in place which support the child and enable them to access the curriculum. At times external agencies such as Educational Psychology Service, Pupil, and School Support, Hearing and Visual Impairment Team, Communication and Autism Team, and Medical Specialists, will offer support following requests from the schools Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. The school provides equal access to opportunities to all its pupils, including those with disabilities. There is access to all ground floor areas and the school reviews its accessibility plan regularly. Access to a toilet facility for wheelchair users is located in the Training Room.
  3. Welcome to West Green Primary School. Our friendly school is based in South Tottenham, Inner London. We are a happy and welcoming school where our children’s entitlement to succeed is at the heart of all that we do. Our children bring with them a wide range of personal experiences and many are new learners of English. Their hunger for learning is evident in all that they do they are bright, engaging, and fun children who are developing a true sense of their selves and are beginning to take responsibility for their futures. We know that to secure a bright future, our children must have excellent literacy and numeracy skills as well as being confident and considerate members of our community. We believe that all of our children should learn to read fluently and avidly, write confidently and effectively and work with numbers accurately and efficiently. Our children have daily lessons in Maths, English, and Reading, and other subjects are taught through topics where possible, for example, History, Geography, Science and Art. Other subjects such as ICT and RE and PE are taught discretely. We use the Read Write Inc Programme to develop our children’s phonic knowledge and to teach them how to decode, blend and segment. Children begin this program in Nursery and receive daily lessons in both the Early Years and Key Stage 1. Children are grouped according to reading ability and are assessed on a half-termly basis. Once our children have completed the phonics program they begin the Language and Literacy program which teaches all elements of the English Curriculum, including Spelling Punctuation, and Grammar. All children receive a daily hour-long lesson on this subject. An additional skills session takes place daily to provide our children with a further opportunity to develop their reading and writing skills. The needs of our various cohorts are taken into account when planning these sessions. Our children also take home appropriate reading books daily and we encourage parents and siblings to read together as often as possible. For children who are struggling to learn to read fluently, we offer a range of proven interventions. These interventions are monitored closely and progress is carefully tracked. We follow the new National Curriculum across Key Stages 1 and 2. This year we have introduced the Maths Mastery Programme in Reception and Year 1 and plan to roll this program into Year 2 as of September 2015. Maths Mastery aims to develop children’s deep understanding of mathematics. They explore mathematical concepts in depth using objects, conversation, and problem-solving to build confidence in their understanding of Maths. The 3 key elements of Maths Mastery sessions are objects and pictures, language development, and problem-solving. From Years 2 to 6, the teaching of mathematics includes using and applying mathematics, counting and understanding numbers, knowing and understanding number facts, calculating, understanding shape, measuring, and handling data. It is hoped that through practical experience and discussion each child will gain confidence and develop mathematical awareness at his or her level of understanding. At West Green Primary School we promote the British values of: Democracy Rule of Law Individual Liberty Respect and Tolerance
  4. Vicar’s Green Primary School is an outstanding school with a 52 place Nursery and two form schools up to and including Year 5 and one Year 6 class. Our 1930's original building has recently been completely refurbished and has had a modern extension providing us with dedicated music and art rooms and a second hall. We are fortunate to still have lots of green space with a MUGA, three playgrounds, an orchard, an outdoor classroom, and a growing area with raised vegetable plots. Our teaching staff, support staff, and governors work in partnership with parents and carers and the wider community to ensure the success of our pupils and provide a safe and happy environment where they can achieve their full potential. Our school motto written by our pupils is: Believe Achieve Succeed. We celebrate and learn about a different value each month. Our values are displayed on the Vicar's Green Values Tree on a display board in the school. Our values include Freedom, Respect, Responsibility, Team Work, Empathy, Perseverance, Equality, Tolerance, Honesty, Compassion, Courage, and Peace. By The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. The Key Values are: Democracy Rule of law Individual liberty Mutual respect Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs Our newly formed Friends of Vicar's Green group is being led by Mrs. E Balodimou one of our Parent Governors. Everyone is automatically a member but if you want to join in with the small group of parents and carers who have joined together with Mrs. Balodimou to organize events for the children please contact the school. Our annual parent survey was sent out in December 2017 to all our parents and carers. The response was good, we received 167 completed questionnaires. From the whole school responses received we have been able to extract data showing the results specifically received from families who have children with special educational needs.
  5. Turves Green Girls’ School is a community that typifies the best in our society. Our pupils are keen, resilient learners, ambitious for themselves and the future of their area. They bring energy and creativity to all they do, and we are rightly proud of them. Our staff works as a team. We are driven by a sense that the young people we serve deserve the very best education we can provide. Our senior leaders and the Governing Board understand that our teachers and support staff are the key to unlocking our young people’s potential, and therefore we place the welfare and professional development of our staff as central. We are building our success outward from a very simple premise: everyone is important. As a small school, we value every individual. We nurture individual talents and structure support to meet individual needs. Our success, recognized by our recent OFSTED, is based on being a caring community. As a single-sex school, we can create an environment where excellence is applauded not mocked. In 2015, for example, saw our Year 11 Netball Team win not just the District championship but the County championships as well. Our exam results since 2010 have regularly scored amongst the best in South Birmingham. We are an outward-facing school. Partnerships with other schools, colleges, universities, charities, and businesses offer our young people opportunities to develop their academic interests, explore new experiences, and investigate career pathways. As a cooperative school, we are part of a cooperative school family which shares our values. It is our aim that Turves Green pupils, after five happy and challenging productive years with us, should leave our school as well-qualified young adults who have a broad outlook, concern, and respect for others, and self-confidence which will enable them to be successful in achieving their goals and fulfilling their ambitions and to play a valuable part in the future of their world. Our vision is to provide for our young people the very best teaching and a supportive environment where their talents are nurtured and insecurities overcome. We will support the young people of our community throughout their childhoods to build their aspirations and ensure their needs are met. We work to put our school at the heart of the community. By working together with other schools and agencies we have a greater capacity for success. Through our cooperative ethos, we pool our efforts, ideas, and enthusiasm to support our young people and their families in ways that would not be possible on our own. As educators, learners, parents, young people, and the wider community, we draw upon both our strength and the expertise of partner organizations. We work to give parents, pupils, staff, and the wider community a strong voice in the development of education and services in the area. The children in our area deserve the very best education and we will strive to deliver it. We are their champions. Together, we succeed. Aims: To enable our pupils to be strong and independent – able to form healthy and respectful relationships, able to safeguard themselves and each other from exploitation and violent extremism, and able to stand up for British and cooperative values. To secure the highest possible academic standards and levels of challenge for our pupils and to prepare our pupils for the constantly changing challenges of life and work after school. To provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and relevant to each pupil, providing a breadth of experiences and allowing pupils to discover their passions. To create a happy and positive learning environment, fostering mutual respect, consideration for others, and personal responsibility. To be committed to developing positive relationships with parents, promoting education as a partnership between home and school. To provide a school-based experience for all our pupils which promotes equality of opportunity and seeks to overcome barriers to their achievement. To prepare our pupils for life after school so they can access the best opportunities in further education and the world of work. We achieve this by working closely with colleges and employers in addition to providing excellent independent careers advice. To encourage our pupils to be creative, resilient, and independent learners. To establish effective working relationships with other professionals for the benefit of all. We work with partner schools, particularly Turves Green Boys’ School and Cofton Primary School to improve all of our schools. To promote Turves Green Girls’ School as part of the wider community, through the implementation of our cooperative values, specifically our commitment to democracy. To provide a safe and caring environment in which all pupils can make a positive contribution to their learning, school, and community. To provide the best possible environment and inspirational teaching by using current technology and new approaches in the classroom. Here at Turves Green Girls’ School, we pride ourselves on the high quality of teaching delivered by our staff and the fantastic opportunities this gives to all our pupils, whatever their ability. We aim to develop this love of learning by ensuring TGGS lessons are well matched to the needs of our pupils, engaging and challenging. We encourage our pupils to be brave and take a chance in their lessons, to try to be resilient if they make a mistake as this is what will help them make progress.

We aim to prepare our students and equip them for the future into the post 18 world: into higher education, employment, a gap year, or a foundation course whatever the right choice for them may be. We have formed extensive links with universities, local businesses, and voluntary groups to offer our students the chance to enrich not only their experiences but also the lives of others. We regularly engage external speakers to further inspire our students and create a real sense of community locally, nationally, and internationally. Our Sixth Form students worked tirelessly to get our World Class School status. We celebrate the achievements of our students and take pride in them. We also take pride in the range of destinations our students leave us to go on to. Last year 70% of our students progress into higher education to study a range of courses: Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and Primary Teaching to name some. Whatever is the personal ambition of students, wherever they may see their future being, we can help them to achieve their goals and give them advice and guidance along the way to help make their ambitions a reality.

We are proud that Ardleigh Green Junior School has laid the foundations for our children to achieve national sporting and artistic success, as well as securing jobs as teachers, sports coaches, physiotherapists, journalists, television producers, dentists, carpenters, builders, and decorators to name but a few. We are justifiably proud of our academic success but equally proud that we have contributed to developing polite, respectful, and caring young people.
  9. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a boys’ comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. We are heavily over-subscribed with long waiting lists. The majority of families are from Bangladesh and therefore most of the students are members of the Muslim faith. We have a small but increasing number of students from other communities. The school is located in the East End of London, close to Canary Wharf and docklands, in an area of social and economic disadvantage but also exciting new opportunities. It is close to residential riverside developments and no more than a mile from the City of London. At Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College our vision is to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills required for them to take their rightful place in a global community. To us, every child matters and we work together with our families to realize our students’ dreams and aspirations. At Stepney Green there is a real drive for academic excellence, coupled with an approach to develop the whole person, making learning enjoyable and exciting. In 2011, Ofsted judged the school as “Outstanding”, and these included teaching and learning, leadership and management, and parents/community links. DCSF has identified the school as a ‘High Performing Specialist School’ and the borough has reclassified the school as Outstanding. We have also gained a second specialism, which is in Science. Our sporting accomplishments are outstanding, our parents are extremely supportive and our staffs are committed to improving their practice. The Governing Body is fully supportive and keen to see Stepney Green realize its potential as a center of excellence for learning and achievement. The school benefits from a variety of funding including Excellence in Cities, National Grid for Learning, Behaviour Improvement Plan, and is part of the Building Schools for the Future program. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a vibrant and exciting place to teach, with staff who are extremely supportive of each other. We are very pleased with the improvements we have made but we are also determined to make further progress in the future. We are committed to the idea of continuous school improvement, providing all staff (particularly those new to the school) with excellent training and support, and building a learning community for all. Every student gets to vote on the next sustainability ideas to be implemented at the College. You will have opportunities for fieldwork at our student-run farm great internship sites like Greenpeace, Killington Ski Resort, or the Office of Senator Bernie Sanders. It is your world—and it is “the real world,” long before you graduate. Ninety-five percent of graduates say they are doing work that they find meaningful. They are prepared for careers in today’s fastest-growing fields, including the green jobs sector. Our graduates do what they love, and the rewards follow. Here, the classroom is more than a place to sit and take notes. It is where you connect, engage, and collaborate with the world’s foremost sustainability experts—your professors. Beyond the classroom, you can expect to work and learn one on one with faculty. To understand who we are — a community working to bring positive change to the world — helps to know who we once were, and how we began, where this tree grew roots. And that place is Vermont – home to a fierce streak of independence, respect for difference, and connection to the natural, intellectual, and spiritual world. Dig under the soil, and you discover our roots intertwined with the stories of those who made their mark on history, like Horace Greeley, who founded the New York Herald Tribune, and who learned the printing trade at a newspaper in East Poultney. The tavern where he lived, the school where he gave his first speech — they still stand here today. As a national reformer, freethinker, and activist, his legacy dovetails with our school's can-do spirit and Vermont. Or John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, whose forward-thinking belief inaccessible education and women’s empowerment, echoes our global responsibility and public service mission. With historical ties to the United Methodist Church, Green Mountain College promotes respect for lifelong learning, human spirituality, gender equality, and our planet. We teach students that history is made by those who lead, like Poultney's settlers, who built one of Vermont’s first libraries. So we transform this inspiration into action, become the first EPA Energy Star campus in the nation, and first reach climate neutrality through clean energy, efficiency, and carbon offsets because this is our history, our roots, your future. Green Mountain College is a place where every academic field is integrated with a focus on sustainability. Here, students lead, teachers guide, and hands-on learning comes to life. Regardless of major, you and your peers complete our Environmental Liberal Arts sequence. This cross-disciplinary program prepares you for a career in today’s fastest-growing fields, including the green jobs sector. You can select from 23 academic majors and 36 minors, or craft your self-designed major through our Progressive Program. Green Mountain College is a small environmental liberal arts college located in Vermont’s beautiful Lakes Region and less than 40 minutes from Vermont’s premier ski resort, Killington Mountain. The campus sits at the intersection of College Street and Main Street in Poultney. A diverse and committed board of trustees with national and regional perspectives sets the overall strategic direction. It ensures the financial and organizational success of the College in achieving its mission. Faculty, staff, and students share in the day-to-day governance of the College. Openness and transparency are essential factors in the goal of creating an atmosphere of respect and equality. The Student Senate, which meets weekly in an open-forum setting, has substantial authority to oversee its internal operations and regularly collaborates with the administration, Staff Assembly, and Faculty Council. Students are often involved in search and other committees. The Faculty Council meets monthly in advance of campus faculty meetings, and faculty forums on research in progress and issues related to teaching are held regularly. The Staff Assembly likewise holds monthly meetings and collaborates with sister organizations. The tradition of holding open meetings for all GMC community members, called “community conversations,” happens at least once a semester.

  19. Kingsbury Green is an oversubscribed, happy community school for children from 3 to 11 years, set in an attractive and well-maintained building. We enjoy extensive outdoor space so our children benefit from plenty of exercises and “out of doors” learning at all stages of their school life. We were delighted to be awarded “outstanding” status by Ofsted in February 2016. This website demonstrates all that is remarkable and unique about our wonderful school and community. Our school community is diverse in many cultures, faiths, languages, backgrounds, and abilities and as a result, our children are active and increasingly informed global citizens. Kingsbury Green children love to learn in many ways and show this through their impeccable learning behavior, willingness to take risks, and to take on responsibility and leadership. We value and expect an open and active partnership with families so that together we ensure each child achieves their personal best having had an exciting, safe, and memorable learning journey here. As a reflective school, the curriculum content, resourcing, and ways children learn best are kept under constant review. Our school importantly it is founded on values of citizenship and we continue to develop our teaching of history, geography, and the arts to ensure we are exercising children’s skills and knowledge as local, national, and global citizens. Our curriculum captures and explores what it means to live in and contribute to British Society through learning about democracy, free speech, and appreciation of the laws of the country, it is an alive and developing program of learning reflecting the rapidly changing world around them. As opportunities arise we may adapt and adopt new themes, topics, and aspects of interest for our children. Our children have told us that rightly, that they want to learn to be “fun” and to as have many opportunities as possible to learn together in different ways. Our goals in 2014-15 are to harness and embed different ways of learning and working together across all subjects. Our curriculum matches the needs of our learners –children may be taught as a whole class, in smaller groups, or on an individual basis. Increasingly too our learning is happening outdoors and off-site. Assessing children’s learning teachers plan to learn on a weekly, half-termly and annual basis. Achieving our ambition to become a world-class school is the next natural step for Kingsbury Green. Our track record of ambitiously establishing a compelling vision and then systematically setting out to achieve this has brought great success for children and the community. We are a “LearningFirst” school. This means teaching is driven by the assessment of pupils' needs. Our goal is to be rid of labels that define pupil “ability”. Our goal is to be rid of ability groups and any other form of the ceiling to children’s learning. We aspire to remove limiting language and practice from our pedagogy. We focus on our children, their profile, and identify and what kind of child we want to develop and build our accountability around this We create a core curriculum that matches our vision and enrich it accordingly. We make it explicit to children what we are aiming for and their role We ensure children trust us to enable them to be successful. Academic and pastoral support goes hand in hand – in partnership with families. We ensure consistency – all classes – each year group. We know that potential +personal motivation + opportunities and support = high achievement. Our students are focused on building leadership capacity at all levels, and in developing the quality of teaching. Our students make outstanding progress from their starting points, in all subjects, including English and mathematics. Children in the Nursery have an excellent start to their education, they make rapid progress. They are thoughtful, highly motivated, and successful learners. The wealth of opportunities for them to take on responsibilities results in individuals who are mature and confident beyond their years. Our Partnerships are outstanding. The school reaches out to parents so that they are better able to support their children’s learning. Our students know that if they work hard they will succeed. They develop clear aspirations for career pathways for the future. They are exceptionally well prepared for life in modern Britain. Safeguarding is a high priority for all adults. Consequently, they are kept very safe and are taught how to keep themselves safe.
  20. Our school is a large four form entry school situated in Hall Green, a leafy suburb of Birmingham, and we share our site with Hall Green Junior School, with whom we have close links. Although we are a large school we work hard to create a small school feel by knowing our children and their families well and making them all feel special. Not only do we as a school strive to ensure that outcomes for the children's academic success are very high, but we also look to develop them as young people to support them to become responsible citizens and positive contributors to the local and global community. This is done, in part, through "Our Aspirations" and our "British Values" education. We work hard to ensure the children and all members of the school community enjoy a safe and positive experience where they are valued, respected and most of all have fun! We follow a program of Values Education. The concept behind this is to develop children’s emotional intelligence by giving them opportunities to explore the values on which our society is based and the vocabulary to express themselves. Our parents are also involved in our Value of the Month and have given us some very positive feedback about the impact of our Values Education on their children’s social development. At Hall Green Infant and Nursery School, we have successfully followed our Values Programme for many years. Our values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an ethos and learning environment which helps to prepare our pupils for a positive future. 21. Birches Green Junior School was established in 1929 and is one of the oldest schools in Erdington, celebrating its 85th birthday in 2014. We are proud of our rich history but also celebrate the developments and opportunities that we can provide for our children in the 21st Century. As a school, we are constantly striving to improve on our previous best to ensure that all children receive the best possible education to reach their full potential. We promote skills for life and the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect and tolerance of others' beliefs and cultures. This will support our pupils of today to become the good citizens of tomorrow. We provide a broad, balanced, differentiated curriculum for all the children through a creative, cross-curricular approach and by providing a wide range of exciting, challenging activities and experiences for all pupils irrespective of ability, background, ethnic origin, or gender. Through the curriculum, we aim to prepare pupils for the opportunities, experiences, and responsibilities of adult life and to lay a firm foundation for future learning. We place a strong emphasis on the development of the basic skills necessary to be confident independent learners and successful adults. We also realize the importance of nurturing individual skills and talents. Our aim is that the curriculum will ensure: Learning is in a meaningful context for the children. It is stimulating and exciting. Inspires ‘Learning is for life. Takes learning beyond the classroom. Builds confidence, resilience, and motivation within our children. Enables children to learn to value others, their views, cultures, and beliefs. As a school, we also promote the fundamental shared values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. In our school, we make provision for pupils who have any of the needs. We know that some pupils will have difficulties in more than one of these areas and we will always do our best to meet their needs. The support in this table acts as a guide but the things we do may vary and actual support will be based on the specific needs of each pupil. All children in school have support within lessons through differentiation and teaching strategies. This means that activities are planned according to the level the child is working at. This can include a variety of ways including changes to the physical environment, changes to teaching styles as well as levels of adult support.

Teachers, support staff, and adults associated with the school have one aim – to ensure the best outcomes for every child. Everyone, all abilities are capable of meeting the expectations in these areas. It’s because of these high expectations, together with exceptionally high quality of teaching that at the end of 5 years with us, pupils leave with the best possible outcomes and have in front of the choices for their futures. We are passionate that our school should be the best it can be and proud that our children achieve brilliant results at the end of their career with us. Yes of course exam results matter but we strive also to ensure that a Bartley Green pupil has a rounded experience at school which contributes towards the adults they become. Visitors to the school comment on the climate for learning, the ethos and the culture among the pupils, and their positive relationships with each other and our staff. A lot goes on in and out of school on any given day there may well be educational visits, workshops, enrichment activities, study skill lessons, mentoring sessions, and adults from the community working with our pupils. To provide a friendly and supportive ethos in which all pupils and staff, irrespective of gender, race, culture, religion, or disability are valued, are consulted, and can achieve success. To promote a sense of personal worth in an atmosphere of trust and mutual support. To ensure that each child is sufficiently motivated and encouraged to reach his/her full potential. To show children standards of excellence and encourage them to gain satisfaction from their achievements. To help children develop lively and enquiring minds and to be able to communicate effectively. To equip children with attitudes, skills, and knowledge to learn independently. To encourage children’s spiritual, moral, and cultural development in all areas of their life. To help children become responsible citizens with a caring attitude to the environment. To encourage children, parents, and governors to work in partnership to realize the aims of the School. The adults within Early Years will gather evidence on your child’s progress, make observations and use this to create a profile for the children on our online observation assessment tool called 2Simple. We encourage parents to look at their child’s achievements and you are always welcome to discuss any questions or problems with the class teacher or TA. The governing body is a group of people from different parts of the community who come together to support the work of the school, by working closely with the Head Teacher to ensure that standards are high in every area of school life. It focuses particularly on the leadership of the school and financial management. We ask parents to help their children with independence by encouraging the children to hang up their coat and bag, finding their name, and settling at an activity. At the end of the session when you come to school to collect your child, please wait outside the classroom for your child to be dismissed by a member of staff. Please do not call your child yourself, as we need to be aware of which children have left and with whom. To give your child the best start at school, it is important that parents and staff work together, and share their knowledge of the child. Staff is always available for a brief word in the morning or after their morning or afternoon session. Throughout the school year, we hold open evenings or open days when you will be able to see your child’s work and speak to the staff about their progress. If at any other time you have concerns that you need to discuss with us, please let us know and we will make an appointment for you to see the teacher. During the year the Foundation Stage will take part in a Harvest Festival, Sports day, and Christmas celebration and you will be invited to all of these activities. We also have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day parties. Everyone enjoys these events and appreciates the opportunity to come together and celebrate the achievements of the children. Marsh Green Pupils choose representatives from their classes to attend School Council Meetings. The School Council works hard to represent the pupil's ideas and needs from all classes and age groups. If your child is aged four to six and attends a fully state-funded infant, primary or special school, they are entitled to receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day. That provides one of their 5 A DAY portions, and the scheme also helps to increase awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables, encouraging healthy eating habits that can be carried into later life.
