The University of Debrecen, as a leading and prominent institution of Hungarian higher education and in line with the spirit of the Magna Charta of European Universities, is dedicated to developing and improving universal scholarship and Hungarian society by providing high-quality, versatile, and interdisciplinary education as well as research and development programs. The University of Debrecen is more than four hundred and fifty years old. Hungary's oldest higher education institution operated continuously in the same city, and as one of the country's largest educational centers, it is a central player in Hungarian higher education. It has outstanding educational, research, and innovation capacities in international comparison as well, and based on these; it plays a significant role in the realization of objectives of national strategy. It is also one of the top 500 universities in the world. The student community of 30,000 can study in 14 faculties, in institutions of excellent scholarly standard. As a leading university, Hungary is known as an intellectual center providing the broadest spectrum of educational programs while also closely cooperating with the private sector, the business sphere, and the local government. The University has been an excellent partner for the city of Debrecen from the very beginning, and it is one of the main driving forces behind the city's development. Besides the performance of its essential functions and duties at the highest standard and quality, we are dedicated to playing an active role in the development of the economy in the Northern Great Plain Region and acting as a service provider for innovation by companies of the region, primarily in the health industry, biotechnology, agriculture, and technology. The University specifies its quality assurance system based on the stipulations of the significant act on Hungarian higher education, the criteria of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, and the Ministry of Human Resources' guidelines and also in consideration of the European standards of quality assurance in higher education. The administration of the University is committed to operating and developing the quality assurance system. The objective of the university administration with the development of the University's quality assurance and quality verification system is to ensure that the University provides skills and knowledge for its students that can be used in the Hungarian and international labor market in high quality and in a way that provides a factual basis for further training. The quality assurance system of the University, in consideration of the tasks specified in the Deed of Foundation, is a conscious and organized activity involving the University as a whole, which serves the realization of the objectives specified in the quality policy of the University and which primarily focuses on satisfying the needs of direct and indirect partners, especially that of the students in general (irrespective of which program they participate in), the employers, clients of research and other services, and the international and Hungarian professional and academic communities. The documentation system of quality assurance is prepared by the rector's commissioner for quality assurance, commented on by the Quality Improvement Committee of the Senate, and is adopted by the Senate of the University. The University prepares a Quality Improvement Plan, which is accepted by the Senate. The institutional and faculty-level quality targets are recorded in this Quality Improvement Plan. Quality assurance and quality improvement based on this activity is the duty of all instructors, researchers, and employees of the University. Everyone shall perform their job duties in a quality that ascertains that the University's accomplishments are always in harmony with the quality policy's objectives. The Industrial Park of the University of Debrecen is currently the only university industrial park in the country where besides research and development, consultancy, and service activities, the practical side of teaching can also be presented moreover, and it provides an opportunity for the establishment of an innovation platform of international significance. Our University is devoted to developing active links and partnerships between higher education and the business sector. Thus it strives to implement such solutions in the Industrial Park of the University of Debrecen that could provide a model and a solution for the challenges of innovation and management and local economic development. With the innovation-focused development of the innovation/industrial park managed by the University of Debrecen and the concentration of university and company investments on this site, an opportunity is provided to develop production processes and products close to industrial production (prototypes). The objective of the University of Debrecen is to implement such development projects in the Industrial Park, which could support its innovation efforts and technology transfer, traditional business incubation, and the personal incubation of students (providing a solution for the practical employment of practice-intensive higher education programs). With the foundation of the Innovation Center, our goal is to establish a bridge and system between the teaching and research site and the business sphere, which could help the collaborations flourish, the testing of RDI ideas, the investigation of the practical applicability of new research findings, and the introduction of young scholars into the practical aspects of their work. During the development of the industrial park managed by the University, we aim to provide incentives for such businesses involved in R&D, who are also clients of the University in the field of research, besides playing a role in economic development, and who are present as investors and funders for university spin-off and startup companies.

The Debrecen Reformed Theological University, as a member institute of the Debrecen Reformed College founded in 1538, has been one of the influential centers of theological sciences and ecclesiastic training of intellectuals. Debrecen became the ecclesiastic center of the Tiszántúl that became protestant by the middle of the 16th century. At that time, the minister and teacher training in the region was carried out by the town's school. Thanks to its professors with experience from Western European universities, extended school network in the country, and protection and rich support from the town and from the princes of Transylvania, the college soon became an institute of national importance. As a poor school, it provided education for the lower layers of society and supported their social advance. Besides notable scientists and science organizers, several poets, writers, and philosophers knew in Hungarian cultural history are found amongst the college's former students. Our university is one of the oldest institutes of education in Hungary: education rich in experiences with reformed Christian commitment at the current age level has been carried out since 1538 in the institute. In our non-religious degree programs, teachers and youth workers may learn. In contrast, the religious degree programs prepare students for Church service and are Christian intellectuals – in the motto "Community, faith, knowledge." Our university was a founding member of the Debrecen Universitas Association and is still an associated institute of the University of Debrecen. The cooperation is close even beyond joint training. The DRTU currently has two institutes and seventeen departments. Our university, apart from its undivided, basic, master, and Ph.D. and higher education vocational training, carry out the training of further church employees, teachers, and other secular intellectuals. The institute currently has 60 full-time teachers and around 800 students.
