Our commitment to teaching social and emotional skills, leadership and foster ingenuity set our graduates apart, enabling them to lead purposeful lives. At CSS, masterful teachers utilize the best teaching techniques from all origins. Socratic seminars and cutting-edge educational technology are employed side by side to teach critical thinking skills, quantitative literacy, global perspectives, and writing skills. CSS is dedicated to challenging some commonly held notions about education to create an environment where your child can achieve and thrive. We believe an innovative approach to the academic disciplines that integrates the real world offers students the best learning experiences. Yeats wrote, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” At CSS, we believe that students come to us as unique individuals with distinct interests, talents, and motivations and that they leave us as enriched scholars and leaders. We find that project-based learning increases student motivation by allowing them more autonomy, letting them experience mastery, and connecting their academic work to deep and authentic purposes. As a school dedicated to preparing students for the future, CSS’s curriculum and programs encompass the entire city, region, nation, and world. We also believe that an independent and private school can and should serve the public good by creating leaders committed to serving others and leaving their mark on the world. When you choose the premier education experience provided by The Colorado Springs School for your child, you can be assured they will be well-prepared by our rigorous and balanced curriculum to achieve the self-confidence that comes through knowledge, accomplishment, and an understanding of how to succeed in our dynamic world. The Colorado Springs School does not discriminate in any of its programs, procedures, or practices based on age, color, disability, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, military service, or other protected status. Independent school education is a significant investment in a family’s resources, and we recognize that you have many choices for your child’s education. That is why we thank you for considering The Colorado Springs School. We look forward to helping you explore a CSS education for your child and family. At CSS, personal engagement is the norm! 5. Welcome to intensive learning that expands through and beyond the Rocky Mountain West—an exceptional location where adventure threads into each day. At Colorado College, our goal is to provide adequate liberal arts education in the country. Drawing upon the Rocky Mountain West's adventurous spirit, we challenge students, one course at a time, to develop those habits of intellect and imagination that will prepare them for learning and leadership throughout their lives. Every year, Colorado College enrolls an academically accomplished student body that encompasses various interests, talents, and backgrounds. Our holistic evaluation process considers your academic work, writing, letters of recommendation, test scores, extracurricular activities, and unique talents and personal qualities. Read on to educate yourself on the process. Colorado College offers a robust Financial Aid program that enables students from all economic backgrounds to enroll. Financial Aid deadlines run in tandem with Admission deadlines. It is critical for your application's timely processing that the stated deadlines submit the required documentation. At Colorado College, offering adequate liberal arts education in the country is what we aspire to. Our unique Block Plan system provides students with the most immersive, and we feel a rewarding method of learning possible. It offers an in-depth study of a subject, often covering far more material than most semester-based programs at demanding and inspiring levels. We offer unparalleled access to the outdoors, and CC students are no strangers to the adventurous spirit that flourishes here in the Rocky Mountain West. This attitude is something that is instilled into everything we do here. Curiosity is the driver, and ingenuity is the outcome. Our academic environment challenges our students and drives them toward discovery. The nature of the Block Plan enables students to find indeed and pursue their passions. Additionally, many courses venture beyond the classroom elsewhere – whether studying astronomy at our Baca campus or merely taking your readings outside. CC allows students and professors alike to make their college experience whatever they choose it to be. At CC, we pride ourselves not solely upon academic rigors and standards, but also on the traits it seeks to bring out. We encourage and facilitate numerous opportunities for student volunteer work, such as BreakOut trips, and offer students leadership positions both on campus and within the local Colorado Springs community. Leadership is something that we strive for in everything we do at CC because the leadership skills cultivated here will allow students to become leaders in whichever career they pursue. The cross-disciplinary perspective of a liberal arts education offers unparalleled opportunities for intercultural engagement. In and outside the classroom, personal interactions promote exposure to diverse social environments where students engage in dialogue about new ideas and complex issues. In this academic and social environment, students become more adept at understanding multiple perspectives and more capable of critical thinking in ways that enhance perspective, quality of life, and success in a diverse world of work and community. Colorado College values all persons and seeks to learn from their diverse experiences and perspectives. Achieving diversity of origin and thought is critical to fulfilling the College's aim to provide a liberal arts education among the finest in the country. Students, faculty, and staff work together to instigate, coordinate, and support diversity issues among all members of the CC community. We remain committed to the philosophy that cost should not deter a student from considering Colorado College. The College administers a substantial financial aid program and uses financial need as the primary consideration in awarding aid. Additionally, merit-based aid is awarded to a select group of applicants. At Colorado College, we believe that one of the best investments is a good education, and financial concerns should not compromise its pursuit. Many families mistakenly assume they cannot afford a private liberal arts education. However, Colorado College seeks a highly qualified and diverse student body. For this reason, we offer a robust financial aid program that enables students from all economic backgrounds to enroll. We strongly urge you to explore the possibility of financial aid as you plan your college education. To assist in this endeavor, we recommend that you utilize our Net Price Calculator to estimate the cost of attendance. Our goal is to make Colorado College affordable to all admitted students who apply for assistance on time. Most, but not all, students receive work-study or institutional employment as part of their financial aid award. Federal and Colorado governments provide employment funding (work-study) to the College for eligible students. Because of these funding sources, the College asks campus employers to prioritize hiring students with federal or state work-study eligibility or to students who have institutional student employment as part of their financial aid award. Colorado College is not your ordinary liberal arts school with a quirky academic schedule. You will feel the difference the moment you arrive. Our campus practically hums with energy, and it comes from our students.

CCU is, first and foremost, an academic community of committed Christian believers rooted in a profound respect for higher learning framed within the Christian worldview. The community respects the pursuit of truth and the development of the life of the mind. The University seeks to develop in each learner the capability to distinguish fact from fallacy, truth from error, and freedom from the license. The University does not cultivate the mind at the expense of the heart. Instead, it emphasizes the development of Christian character and spirituality with the intent of sending graduates with personal Christian commitment and an informed sense of Christian morality into today's communities and workplaces to provide leadership. CCU emphasizes the development of compassion, social concern, and a sense of biblical justice in its students' lives. Likewise, the University seeks students, faculty members, and staff from diverse backgrounds. The University is evangelical and interdenominational. Since the time of the mergers creating CCU, it has identified itself, not with any specific denominations, but with the broader, historic evangelical faith, and the University continues to honor and to define that identity. As church history's great movements have shaped the evangelical tradition, evangelicals have found themselves in the Christian spectrum center, holding genuine respect for both special and general revelation, seeking intellectual rigor to harmonize what God has revealed through both Scripture and creation. As an evangelical institution, the University employs a faculty that represents various perspectives, all within the defining boundaries of the evangelical Christian faith. This blend of evangelical viewpoints affords students a thought-provoking but still, supportive environment to mold their Christian convictions. The University advocates and teaches investigative study and the proper methods of scientific research and technological innovation. Still, it recognizes that empirical reasoning alone cannot satisfy each person's deep need for a personal relationship with God, the Creator of all things. As a community of believers, CCU recognizes that God is known through Jesus Christ. As a community of learners, CCU recognizes that this understanding of God in Jesus Christ is the beginning of wisdom. The University's primary academic focus is on excellence in teaching while providing research and performance opportunities by both faculty and students. The University prizes academic excellence as a virtue and encourages students to strive for such excellence. CCU is a university of the liberal arts and professions with institutional roots that include undiminished respect for the authority and truthfulness of Scripture as the foundation of God's creative revelation of Himself to humanity. The Bible offers a sure foundation for understanding God, humanity, and the world, sound thinking, wise living, and Colorado Christian University Policy effective service. The arts and sciences belong to God and are to be prized, explored, enjoyed, and influenced by Christians. As a result, students gain broad exposure to art, history, literature, music, philosophy, science, and other fields of study, all of which are informed from a biblical perspective. Equally, the University believes that Christian scholarship is practical. Upon the foundation of the biblically-informed liberal arts curriculum, students must be enabled to work productively in society and earn a living. As a Christian university, CCU places a strong emphasis on personal discipleship and preparation for ministry. Students are encouraged to mature in their relationship with Christ and their service for Him. Scripture states that all Christians are called to serve Christ and to minister to others. Because Christians are individuals having different gifts and callings, they can serve Christ in various ministry vocations. By involving our students in service to the church and community, CCU helps prepare them for a lifetime of service, taking Christ's light into the world.

View full university

Western Colorado University academic programs promote intellectual maturity and personal growth in its students and graduates prepared to assume constructive roles in local, national, and global communities. In the late 19th century, Gunnison was a progressive cattle and mining town establishing itself as a cultural leader of Colorado's Western Slope. Placed on the leading edge of the American frontier, Gunnison sought to establish educational programs for the area's citizens. A bill was introduced in 1885 to establish a college, but it would take until 1901 for a bill to be approved by the state legislature. The seed for Western Colorado University as we know it was planted, but all that existed was a designated swath of land that cattle could still graze on. The cornerstone of North Hall (now Taylor Hall) was placed in October 1910. The following year, Colorado State Normal School, a two-year college, welcomed its first class of 13 students. The Normal School was the first college on Colorado's Western Slope. Students and faculty in those early years were as challenging as today's mascot—the Mountaineer. Complaints about mountain weather were taboo, and getting over mountain passes and snowy roads was no excuse for not making it to class on time. Students handled most maintenance on campus and had fun by skiing off Cupola Hill and tobogganing by North Hall. The foundation of the Mountaineer spirit was laid in these pioneering years. After World War II, Western entered a period of unprecedented expansion, peaking with a student enrollment of 3,200 in the late 1970s. The college became known as one of the top outdoor education schools in the nation. Athletic Director Paul Wright became known as "the father of intercollegiate skiing" when he got the NCAA to adopt it as an official sport in 1953. Western Ski Coach Sven Wiik became known as the "father of Nordic skiing in the U.S." and served as the U.S. Olympic coach, turning out more than 20 Olympic skiers. The men's and women's cross country teams won 12 NCAA titles and turned out four Olympians. Today, Western has state-of-the-art facilities, including the new Mountaineer Field House, University Center, and residence halls. It gained university status in 2012 and is now regarded as one of America's top universities by Forbes magazine. Elevation Outdoors magazine rates the school as the Top Adventure College in the Rocky Mountains. Academically, Western has renowned programs in Environment & Sustainability, Biology, Geology, Energy Management, Exercise & Sport Science, Business and Recreation & Outdoor Education—along with a host of graduate programs. Western Colorado University carries much of the charm it did more than 100 years ago. It is a small university in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a great outdoor laboratory with excellent and engaged professors, small classes, and great attention.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs has a history as rich as the views our campus overlooks. As early as the 1920s, the University of Colorado offered courses at numerous Colorado Springs locations. However, when George J. Dwire sold the 80-acre Cragmor Sanitarium to the University of Colorado for $1, the campus we call home now was born. From 1965 to 1972, the Colorado Springs Center operated as a division of the C.U. Boulder campus; however, UCCS was recognized as a distinct campus in 1974 and two Denver campuses. Known for its healthy climate, an early Colorado Springs slowly became known as a mecca for health, starting when General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, gave Dr. Edwin Solly 100 cares of land on Austin Bluffs, along with $50,000 to start a tuberculosis sanitarium. Working with one of ColoradColorado's famous architects in Thomas MacLaren, Solly helped create the Cragmor Sanitarium. That building still stands to this day and is what we at UCCS call Main Hall. UCCS grew over the years, and in 1996 the first on-campus student housing opened. The next year, a community referendum merged the city-owned Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences with the campus. During the 2010-2011 new branding campaign, "at" wa" r" moved from the official UCCS name (the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs) to become the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The initial university programs of engineering and business still serve as pillars of the university. Those programs are joined by a broad range of degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in nursing, education, and public affairs. They meet the needs of ColoradColorado' s-largest metropolitan area beyond. From its original 80 acres, UCCS has added 450 additional acres along Austin Bluffs Parkway and North Nevada Avenue. Development of the North Nevada Avenue corridor continues, with the recent construction of the Ent Center for the Arts. Remains from approximately 30 sites used by Plains Indians from about 100 A.D. to 1400 A.D. dot the campus grounds. The area's cultural heritage is witnessed architecturally and in diverse ecological phenomena and the significant prehistoric archeological components observable throughout the campus acreage.

  23. Colorado timberline academy is a non-traditional college preparatory, co-ed, secondary boarding/day school dedicated to changing the lives of students who have experienced difficulties in a previous high school setting. Our mission is to prepare students academically and socially for the challenges they face upon graduation. Through our diverse curriculum and outdoor programs, we foster freedom with responsibility, creativity, and respect for ourselves, each other, and the environment. Colorado Timberline Academy offers a close-knit community with educational and outdoor-oriented excellence: A strong academic program for grades 9-12 and post-graduate. A maximum enrollment of 45 students. An average class size of eight students. An outstanding record of college admissions. An excellent selection of electives: graphic design, photography, blacksmithing, drama, horticulture, fine arts, ceramics, and more. A structured day that builds good school habits and learning skills. A sports activity program involves every student in outdoor activities: skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, and more. Colorado Timberline Academy, a nonprofit co-educational boarding school, opened its doors in September of 1975. During the four years before 1975, our basic philosophy was implemented in another school, Buckingham Academy, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. When Buckingham closed its doors, a small group of dedicated teachers, parents, and students sought to find a new school location to continue that unique educational experience initiated at Buckingham. Durango, Colorado, was chosen because of its small-town atmosphere, convenience to a local college, proximity to mountains and deserts, and possibilities for numerous outdoor educational facilities. We rented a famous local dude ranch during the winter months for our first three years of operating as a Durango school. Initially, many of our ideas could have been considered experimental. Our first year of operation provided a stern test of our ideas. Only through a remarkable degree of cooperation and dedication were we able to survive. The spirit of mutual support developed that the first year has become a key ingredient in determining each successive school year's quality. Our second and third years were spent refining and expanding our ideas and programs. As our experiment continued to provide successful results, we realized that to become more stable and permanent, we needed to own our facility. In the fall of 1978, we moved to our present location. Operated as a dude ranch and a resort since the 1930s and known variously as Pinkerton Hot Springs, El Rancho Encantado, and the Golden Horseshoe, our facility has a rustic charm and a long history. We have been renovating the various buildings since 1978 and are still in the process of tailoring the entire complex to our needs and desires. View full school

View full university
