About Me

  1. The Child Development Centre (CDC) uniquely provides support to the widest spectrum of Special Educational Needs (SEN) issues in English and Chinese in Hong Kong. Over the past 40 years, we have been delivering a full range of early educational programs, assessments, and therapies. We were also the first center to integrate typical and children with SEN into group sessions. Our children include those with learning difficulties, developmental delay, autism, Down’s syndrome, and physical disabilities. The Centre informally began in 1976 under the guidance of Mrs. Sarah Roe, an occupational therapist. You may have heard of Mrs. Roe since the only English language special school in Hong Kong is named after her. Mrs. Roe began organizing a group in her apartment for English-speaking children with learning difficulties. The Matilda International Hospital was extremely supportive and offered available hospital space that could be used for a more formal playgroup. With the generous support of sponsors and parents, combined with a firm commitment from the Matilda Hospital, a purpose-built facility was opened on the grounds of the hospital in 1981 by Mrs. Anne Marden.
  2. Alison’s Letterland International Kindergarten was founded in 1996 by Alison Euler. A year later, Baby Buddies International Playgroup and Nursery opened and was the first purpose-operated playgroup in Hong Kong. Alison is a qualified N.N.E.B (1988) and has a wealth of experience in early childhood education gained in the UK and Hong Kong. Alison’s dream was to create a fun, caring, and educational environment for children and their families in Hong Kong. She creates a community feeling within the schools for all her students to remember the beginning of their learning journey as a fun and happy experience. Alison’s dreams have come true, with the assistance of an incredible team, a passion for teaching, and hard work. Alison and her team successfully continue to deliver new child-centered educational programs based on the British National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage. The high standard of education in each school is reflected in the success of each child being accepted to international primary schools and thriving in our educational environments. Alison’s philosophy is that each child and their family will leave our classes with a smile. Baby Buddies International Playgroup and Nursery Alison’s Letterland International Kindergarten have expanded now providing educational services in three locations on Hong Kong Island. The schools retain a family community feels with a close network of devoted and qualified international teachers truly inspiring your child with a love of learning. Our mission is to imbue every one of our students with a lifetime love of learning and to encourage them to become confident, responsible, and effective contributors to society. We believe that every child is a competent learner from birth, and every child should be treated with respect and as an individual. Our teachers are all well-qualified early year’s professionals with internationally recognized Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or equivalent. Our Chinese language teachers are fluent Putonghua speakers qualified and experienced in early childhood education. At this age, strong relationships are embedded with the familiar teacher and will be the role model that a child learns to trust and looks to for security and care. Our Kindergarten is a bright and spacious facility overlooking the beautiful greenery of Victoria Park. The classroom is open-planned and offers different areas of age-appropriate learning, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Kindergarten is equipped with the latest up-to-date educational equipment from the U.K. Along with the newest models of interactive whiteboards to support the children’s learning.
  3. Safari Kid Hong Kong is now Kïdo! Kïdo international nursery in Repulse Bay is the only dedicated international unaccompanied daycare center in Hong Kong for children between 10 months to 3 years of age (besides our child care center in Happy Valley)! In addition, we offer playgroups from 6 to 24 months. The kindergarten is conveniently located at the iconic The Repulse Bay Arcade in Repulse Bay, a charming colonial building constructed on the site of the former The Repulse Bay Hotel on the south side of Hong Kong. The mall offers an appealing range of shops, restaurants, and professional service providers. The four associated residential towers are one of the most recognized apartment buildings in the world, courtesy of a much-photographed “feng shui” hole. The striking architecture at Repulse Bay certainly makes an impression – there aren’t many things more breathtaking than a Feng Shui hole. That’s why we knew it would be an excellent location for one of our schools. The surrounding scenery is ideal for inspiring children to take their first steps into the world of learning. Our stunning nursery can be found at the iconic Repulse Bay Arcade and is built into a charming colonial building on the site of the old Repulse Bay Hotel. The area itself is a peaceful residential zone, which features a selection of shops and restaurants, and is Kïdo Repulse Bay just a five-minute walk from the Repulse Bay beach. At our school, young children take their first steps into independence as they learn how to explore and socialize. We utilize smaller classroom sizes combined with high teacher-to-student ratios. This means we can give more attention to individual students, and craft lessons based on their interests. Our fun games and activities will spark a love of learning in your child from an early age. We often incorporate Mandarin into many of our morning or afternoon activities to help children gain an understanding of the language. Besides the practical benefits of knowing a second language later in life, there are several advantages to receiving a multilingual education at an early age. Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical thinking, and listening skills. In addition to this, bilingual children often have improved reading, writing, and math skills, and generally score higher on standardized tests. Contrary to popular belief, young children are not confused by the introduction of multiple languages. Acquiring a second language early in life primes the brain to learn multiple other tongues, opening a world of opportunities for later on.
  4. There is no work more important than to be engaged in the education and transformation of young women. At Holy Child, we call on our students to be innovative, courageous self- advocates that embrace their passions and take risks. We are dedicated to developing "women of conscience and action," who will effect change within our community and worldwide. The School of the Holy Child's mission is to develop "women of conscience and action." An all-girls, Catholic, independent, college-preparatory School for grades 5-12, the School is guided by the educational philosophy of Cornelia Connelly, the founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, and her dedication to "joy in teaching and joy in learning." Accomplished and dedicated faculty members foster the spiritual development, individual talents, and interests of each student. This is realized through rigorous and comprehensive academic, arts, athletics, service, and global programs. Holy Child graduates are prepared for the innovative and critical thought necessary in a diverse, interconnected society. Every day at Holy Child, we aim to engage our girls in an education that will shape who they are for the rest of their lives. Every project, every opportunity, every experience is thoughtfully curated to help develop young women of conscience and action who will "meet the wants of the age." Holy Child challenges our girls to shape their emerging interests into a course of study that encourages excellence and ignites life-long passions. The desire to explore, collaborate, research, present, and reflect defines a Holy Child student. They investigate chemical reactions in science courses and interpret complicated texts in English class. They construct logical arguments and identify sound reasoning in their humanities courses, like history and religious studies. All girls have laptops or tablets, which help them keep pace in flipped classrooms and access the latest educational technologies, including state-of-the-art lab tools and personalized software for studying world languages. Class offerings in engineering, architecture, and robotics begin as early as fifth grade. Holy Child students are spirited, confident, smart, and kind. They are not afraid to take risks. They are investigating chemical reactions in science courses and interpreting complex texts in English classes. They are constructing logical arguments and identifying sound reasoning in rhetoric and religious studies. They are taking technology courses unparalleled with offerings that begin as early as fifth grade, including robotics, engineering, and computer programming. Since 2012, five Holy Child students have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Winners, and 14 have been named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. 10. Our philosophy is aligned with the following vision statement for REIEA: “We believe in a just and civil society that values our shared humanity, fosters healthy democratic communities, recognizes the uniqueness of each individual, and appreciates diversity. We recognize children as social beings from birth, full of curiosity and imagination, and having the potential and desire to find connections and meaning in all they experience. We acknowledge their ability to reflect upon and contribute to their learning through their many expression and communication languages. We recognize that all children have a right to be heard, be respected, and feel a sense of belonging to their family, school, and community. We see this as a foundation for becoming responsible citizens of the world. We offer a thinking curriculum where children are encouraged to be active, creative, social, resourceful, and thoughtful. We provide a problem-based learning curriculum with a creative solution focus. We know that teaching is different from learning. We focus on learning and are inspired by brain research and life experiences. Both the children’s current level of understanding and skills and the W.A. Curriculum Framework are used to inform our daily practice. Our focus is on co-operation and co-responsibility, with a sense of interdependence and individuals contributing to their learning. We believe children construct their knowledge in and through group situations. In these groups, children generate ideas, pose questions, explore, discover, make mistakes, challenge, and confirm. Schools are one of the few places in our society that separate us by age, and this seems to be for organizational purposes rather than educational reasons. Therefore, we intentionally have multi-age grouping to cater to the differences in each brain’s unique timetable for development. Multi-age grouping allows children to develop long-term working relationships with their educators and peers, who stay with over several years.

  14. Oak Knoll's mission since its founding in 1924 has been to cultivate intellectual, spiritual, physical, and emotional development in all of our students. Students, along with their families, experience academic programs that encourage excellence in each student, a strong faith commitment, respect and reverence for each person, freedom of expression through the creative arts, a competitive athletic program, and active involvement in campus ministry opportunities that expand their understanding for the global world in which they live. Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, Judeo-Christian in heritage, Roman Catholic in teaching and worship, is an independent school for boys and girls in kindergarten through grade 6 and young women in grades 7 through 12. The Oak Knoll community commits to the education and growth of the whole child, as envisioned by Cornelia Connelly, the founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Engaged in the world's challenges, the school cultivates a faith commitment that promotes and inspires a positive personal relationship with God. In a learning climate based on trust and reverence for each person's dignity and uniqueness, Oak Knoll provides an intellectually challenging and creative program of study that fosters excellence in every aspect of school life and prepares our graduates to "meet the wants of the age." Welcoming a diverse student body, our learning community develops inquisitive students who think critically, embrace knowledge, respond with moral and ethical integrity, and make responsible choices that enrich their own lives and contribute to the lives of others. As a Holy Child School, we believe: God is central in our lives. A nurturing educational environment supports the development of mind, body, and spirit. A rich and engaging curriculum promotes intellectual and personal growth. An open mind leads to a lifetime of learning. All voices deserve to be heard and respected. Each person has gifts and talents that enrich the community. Understanding and appreciating differences lead to the celebration of diversity. A cooperative spirit and generous nature are essential to living the Holy Child philosophy. Each person is called to work for principles of justice, peace, and compassion in every facet of life. Research tells us that girls, particularly adolescent girls, thrive in the single-sex classroom because all-girls middle and high school classrooms, offer young women exceptional opportunities. Our rigorous college prep, middle, and high school curriculum develop qualities essential to a meaningful life — qualities such as self-discipline, self-confidence, leadership, critical thinking, respect for diversity of ideologies, and the ability to solve problems. In our all-girls 9-12 high school academic program, nearly all girls take four years of math and science. All Oak Knoll students take physics, chemistry, and biology. Many students take a fourth year of science in one of the advanced placement offerings or the honors science electives program. Our ninth grade Physics First Program challenges even the most prepared science student to think in new ways and to gain a comprehensive understanding of the natural sciences. Our college-prep program truly prepares the girls for the world ahead of them as Oak Knoll students travel, whether in the classroom or as an exchange student in Australia, Europe, or Canada. As part of the academic program, all students take three years of a foreign language to achieve proficiency in speaking and writing a language. Our middle and high school girls find the foreign language curriculum encourages them to appreciate global connections. They begin to understand the world today demands understanding and appreciation of world cultures. Our middle and high school curriculum is rich with an interdisciplinary study that spans departments and promotes holistic learning. View full school
  15. View full school
  16. 19. 20. View full school
