Libraries existed as a depository collection of knowledge. With the advent of technology, printed books still play a critical role in supporting learners, but digital technologies offer additional learning and content acquisition pathways. Today's library is not merely for access to information. It requires a place that encourages participatory learning and allows for the co-construction of understanding from various sources. In other words, libraries are becoming learning commons. Capitol University Library is advancing towards the modern learning commons environment. It is wifi ready, conducive, and comfortable for learning with a variety of modern couches, tables, chairs, a variety of resources with the state of the art facilities. Its new set and arrangement can accommodate students with a more barrier-free space in terms of student use and an innovative space while doing research projects, studies, and paper works. Believing that no expense can equate with satisfying the library clients, having a modern learning environment is achievable to address the library user's needs, where the design would reflect the innovations that are going on inside the campus. At Capitol Technology University, we provide relevant learning experiences — in engineering, computer sciences, information technologies, and business — that lead to success in the evolving global community. As an international student, you will appreciate our small class sizes, specialized degree programs, and a great location near Washington, DC. At this time, Capitol is only approved to admit international students for undergraduate programs. For adult learners not seeking a degree, short courses, seminars, and modules of the educational curriculum will be made available for short-term training sessions (though the credits may transfer toward degrees). These activities, which focus on information assurance and leadership/management, are designed to develop skills and assist professionals in achieving relevant certifications to advance their careers. As a current student at Capitol Technology University, you have taken the first step toward a challenging and rewarding career. The dedicated staff at Career Services is available to help you with various activities and resources to help you land that perfect job. At Capitol Technology University, we consider you a first-time freshman applicant if you have never enrolled in a college or university after receiving a high school diploma. If you received college credit while attending high school, you're still considered a freshman. You will appreciate the flexibility of our graduate programs before you even start. As a master's student, you can apply — and be accepted — at any time. Courses are eight weeks long and are offered in six terms throughout the year. After applying, you can begin taking courses in the next term. Note, however, that there are deadlines for financial aid.
  3. Capitol Technology University was founded in Washington, DC, as the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in 1927 by Eugene H. Rietzke. A Navy veteran and radio operator, Rietzke foresaw the need for an advanced school that could produce talented radio and electronics technicians. CREI began as a correspondence school, but its popularity led to the 1932 opening of a residence division allowing students to work for hands-on in laboratories. As radio technology improved, new training programs and courses were quickly added. Following World War II, CREI became one of the first three technical institutes accredited by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development. The institute entered a new era in the mid-1950s when it began awarding three-year AAS degrees. The school expanded its reach to new programs in applied engineering and electronics. To reflect this evolution, the institute changed its name to the Capital Institute of Technology in 1964. It awarded its first bachelor of science degrees in 1966 to four graduates of its electronics engineering technology program. Anticipating the need for more room, Capitol relocated in 1969 to a leased space in Kensington, Maryland. In 2010, Capitol launched its first doctoral program in college's history. The doctorate in information assurance was designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the burgeoning field of cybersecurity. Offered almost exclusively online, much like Capitol's master's degrees, Capitol has accepted doctoral students from across the globe. The university added its second doctoral program, in management and decision sciences, in 2014. Capitol currently offers three associate degrees, 12 bachelor's degrees, six master's degrees, and two doctorates. Capitol currently offers five doctoral programs, including a combination master of science and a Ph.D. program. These programs support the development of high-level critical thinking, leadership, and technical skills, and contribute innovative and practical doctoral research to student's chosen body of knowledge. Choose from eight master's degree programs to expand your knowledge and advance in your career. Programs are accelerated, with eight-week as well as 16-week courses, offered exclusively online. The courses combine the convenience of online learning with the stimulation of classroom experience. Capitol is the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to engineering, computer science, information technology, and business. These are four-year programs leading to a college diploma and a promising job in a high-technology field or business. We offer three associate degrees that can be completed in two years. You can enter the workforce with this degree or continue your education by applying the credits to a bachelor's degree. Choose the program that matches your interests. We offer more than 20 certificates, each approximately 12-credits per certificate. Earning one of these certificates can help you keep your skills current, advance your career, or change your workplace role. Today Capitol is the only independent university in Maryland specializing in providing relevant education in engineering, business, and related fields. It takes pride in its proven record of placing graduates in competitive careers with higher salaries than the industry average. While innovations spur new developments and industries, the foundations taught at Capitol Technology University – thinking critically, actively, and creatively – will remain. As it looks to the future, Capitol Technology University remains committed to providing students with quality education and the relevant experience to excel in a changing world. With a lovely 52-acre campus in Laurel, you can enjoy all the perks of a small suburban college — conveniently located halfway between two exciting cities: Baltimore and Washington DC. At Capitol, you become part of a tight-knit community. You will be surrounded by people who share your intelligence, curiosity, and passion. Students live in apartments from their first day on campus, which means you do not have to wait until you are an upperclassman to enjoy freedom from stuffy small traditional college rooms. All registered, full-time students are eligible to live in the residence facilities. Housing is single-sex, and apartments accessible for people with disabilities are available—Capitol guarantees to the house for continuing students who meet the April 1st deadline. New students guaranteed housing application deadline is May 1st. Studying hard often leaves students hungry for some social interaction. Here at Capital, you will be able to get involved and connected right away...you do not have to feel like a little fish in a big pond. There are many things to do on campus: change after the color to be – paint nights, barbecues, board game nights, haunted houses, overnight lock-ins, Zombie Week, outdoor games and fire pits, campus comprehensive team competitions, movies, and so much more. So do not be afraid to get involved and have fun - you have earned it. Do not see a club that suits your interests? Start one yourself! It is easy - get five friends who are interested in starting the organization. Then, contact the Student Life office at studentlife@captechu.edu to discuss your idea and find faculty/staff advisors. Our labs and centers of excellence are supported by industry and embraced by those passionate about staying current in these ever-changing fields. Professionals already working in the nation's homeland security workforce who need certifications, those educating our youngest minds, plus students preparing for careers— all turn to us to show them the future. Capitol Technology University makes it possible for busy professionals to earn master's degrees, doctorates, or technology-related certificates on their schedule. We offer many of our degree programs in a flexible, asynchronous format that allows you to watch course lectures at a time that works for you. Our professors, drawn from the ranks of skilled professionals in their fields, are accessible and ready to assist you with any questions. Other programs offer a live, virtual classroom format to interact with your instructor and fellow students in real-time. All live classes are recorded and available for later replay. All of Capitol's master's degree programs are offered entirely online. Our pioneering doctoral programs in cybersecurity (DSc) and business and decision sciences (Ph.D.) are primarily online, with an annual residency during which you will work with Capitol faculty members to shape your research ideas into a finished project. We also offer no-residency doctorates in Technology (Ph.D.) and Unmanned Systems Applications (Ph.D.)!
