  1. In 1895, the 28th year of the Meiji period, Sai Murasaki founded a private vocational institution. Tokushima Bunri University and its affiliated Junior College consist of 9 faculties and 26 departments, making it one of the largest post-secondary institutions in Western Japan. The University has two campuses: Tokushima Campus in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, and Kagawa Campus in Sanuki City, located east of Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. The undergraduate program of the Tokushima Campus consists of six-year courses in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and four-year courses in the Faculty of Human Life Sciences, Health and Welfare, Policy Studies, and Music. There is also a one-year postgraduate course in Human Life Sciences, Music or Midwifery, and Master’s Degree and Ph.D. courses in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Human Life Sciences, and Policy Studies Course as a Professional Degree Program. Tokushima Bunri Junior College has two-year programs in Commerce, Language and Communication, Life Science, Child Care, and Music at the Tokushima Campus. At the Kagawa-Campus, there are four-year programs at the Faculty of Health and Welfare, Literature, Science and Engineering, and a six-year program in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. There are also Master’s Degree and Ph.D. courses in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Literature, and Engineering. Nowadays, Tokushima Bunri University and Tokushima Bunri Junior College and a kindergarten, an elementary school, a junior-and senior-high-school make up the Murasaki Gakuen Educational Foundation. The founding motto of Tokushima Bunri University is “Independence and Cooperation,” and the academic environment in any of its programs reflects and promotes this phrase through professional faculty and staff and up-to-date research facilities. Situated in one of Tokushima’s central districts of culture and education, the Tokushima campus offers an environment conducive to learning and creativity. It attracts students from all parts of the country. This campus has a new Music Faculty building, including the Murasaki Hall, a world-class concert hall, the Central Research Building with state-of-the-art equipment for pharmaceutical science research, and the Murasaki Tadahito Memorial Library built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Murasaki Gakuen. Students interested in such faculties as Engineering or Literature study here and have the opportunity to utilize the recently opened high-tech Research and Media Library, a state-of-the-art engineering laboratory, and other facilities to assist them in their studies. Each library at the Tokushima and Kagawa campuses is equipped with various computers such as personal network computers, work stations, and mini-computers. They are joined by the LAN (Local Area Network) system. Almost every month, different events are held at Tokushima Bunri University, involving students and faculty. Such events include the first-year student orientation, the English Oratorical Contest, the school festival, various concerts, and commencement. Each campus has a student cafeteria and various lounges where students and faculty can meet on an informal basis. Bunri University has strived to make a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment for the benefit of all.
  2. The four years you spend at Nippon Bunri University (NBU) will provide the foundation for your future life, fostering an enhanced insight and level of judgment that will enable you to move forward in your subsequent life with vigor. Furthermore, NBU aims to nurture students a desire to apply their abilities to contribute to society and its people. At the time of its foundation in 1967, NBU set the goal of furthering the connection between industry and academia as its founding principle. This remains the central pillar of the University's philosophy today. University is an academic place and a place for building one's character. As well as acquiring the knowledge and skills required for one's chosen profession, the four years a student spends at University is also an opportunity to acquire the self-reliance and confidence needed to become an influential member of society. As a higher-education institution tasked with nurturing the asset that society possesses in its younger generation, universities' role has been critical in such circumstances, with a responsibility to foster human resources that can seek ways to build a better local society assimilating the experiences and lessons of previous generations. Thus, with the basis of the University's three guiding principles, 'Industry-university Collaboration,' 'Ningen Ryoku' and the 'Contribution to society and the local community,' and within the replete Oita environment, NBU seeks to foster graduates who can fuse high-level knowledge in their specialist area with vocational abilities and 'Ningen you are to become leaders in their regional economies and societies. NBU is guided by three education principles:‘Industry-university Collaboration', 'Ningen Ryoku', and 'Contribution to society and the local community.' Against this background, while approaching the nurturing of human resources motivated by the belief that young people are an asset that supports the development of the industrial sector, which in turn helps to build a better local community, we are also promoting educational reform that places much value on the growth of the students. `Ningen Ryoku' refers to the ability to organically connect the knowledge, skills, and ambitions acquired at University through subsequent experiences within society to have the power to play an active and influential role in society throughout one's life. A person's `Ningen Ryoku' is gradually honed through the experience of seeking solutions to questions that arise through one's many contacts with society and with the many value systems held by society's members. As a consequence, we regard our domain of study to be not just within the university campus but to encompass the whole of Oita, providing a balanced synthesis of abundant natural resources, local culture, and a variety of industries against which we are developing an education program that includes awareness of the difference between generations, industries, and areas of specialization. We are working together with the regional community, and the industry is striving to create a new generation in which every young person can join hand-in-hand with their peers in exerting their 'Ningen Ryoku' and projecting their personality, and thereby play a leading role in building a better society,
  3. Nagoya Bunri University has its origin in the Nagoya Professional School of Nutrition, founded in 1956 by Kazumasu Takikawa. The school expanded in 1966 to become the Nagoya Junior College of Nutrition, and in 1999 to become Nagoya Bunri University. At present, there are two campuses, in Inazawa and Nagoya. The University consists of 3 departments in 2 schools, while the junior college consists of 1 department composed of 2 majors. Altogether there are 1400 students. The University had its roots in a school of nutrition, but now "Food, Nutrition, and Information Technology" are the three pillars of youth education. "Food" and "Nutrition" are the most fundamental aspects of human life, while "Information Technology" will gradually become more important in society as a means of communication in the future. With the mission of giving concrete form to its motto "The Spirit of Bunri Education," this University has produced many talented people and sent them out into the world. In the future as well, by developing as a university of "Food, Nutrition, and Information Technology," it will fulfill its mission as an institution of higher learning. In "The Spirit of Bunri Education," the "cultivation of human beings," in other words, (human) education is emphasized. For that purpose, contact between individuals with different personalities is essential. In settings for such contacts, such as classes, seminars, the library, club activities, and so on, by ʻmeeting," ʻlearning,ʼ ʻteaching,ʼ conversing,ʼ and ʻdebating,ʼ each studentʼs individual abilities are polished. This interaction of contrasting personalities, as well as studentsʼ individuality, is the basis of developing capable individuals. We aim to foster healthy young people for mind, body, and thought, shaping society in the future. In "The Spirit of Bunri Education," perfecting oneʼs knowledge and skills through the study is also mentioned. Deepening studentsʼ knowledge and helping them acquire specialized technical skills is also an essential task for our University. Japan is experiencing shrinkage of population and long-term economic stagnation, and the countryʼs future path will not be smooth. Raising general populationʼs knowledge and abilities is the only means of solving such problems. The establishment of a state based on the education of youth is becoming more and more critical. Over the past half-century, Takikawa Gakuen has sent many young people out into the world with a high level of technical skills as nutritionists or other types of specialists. In the future, the University will continue to fulfill its mission of educating the next generations of talented men and women with a high level of abilities and skills in the fields of "Food," "Nutrition," and "Information Technology" who can become socially and professionally independent. In you, as young students, various undiscovered possibilities exist. Based on our universityʼs three distinct ʻpillars,ʼ we wish you to develop your individuality fully and hidden abilities, acquire something precious, and grow into citizens who can actively contribute to society.
