  1. Located in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Hathaway Brown School provides an inclusive environment that challenges girls in grades K through 12 and boys and girls in the Early Childhood Program. Founded in 1876, Hathaway Brown is committed to a fusion of academic and experiential learning. The school focuses on educational innovation as it prepares students to rise boldly to the challenges of our times and live out the HB motto of learning "not for school, but life." Hathaway Brown is a dynamic and compassionate community dedicated to excellence in the education of girls. For us, educational excellence includes, but reaches well beyond, superb preparation for college. As reflected in our motto, the real mission of the school, "Non-Scholae Sed Vitae Discimus," is preparation for life. We strive to foster our students' minds an abiding passion for learning and, in their hearts, a constant devotion to strong character and public service. There is a great need for women of vision and courage who are empowered for leadership in a multicultural and globalized society at this moment in history. We seek to answer that need by inspiring our students to achieve their utmost potential and rise boldly to our times' challenges. While transforming the lives of the girls in our care is our primary calling, Hathaway Brown embraces broader aspirations as well: to help shape a future of unbounded possibility for women to stand among the country's leading schools in educational innovation and to be such a force for the common good beyond our campus that we are respected as a civic treasure. Hathaway Brown is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning community through our admission policies, hiring practices, professional development, curricular and extracurricular programming, and school culture. The representation and full engagement of the diverse points of view of individuals with varied life experiences is a source of strength and wisdom that enriches the learning environment and fuels innovation and growth, mainly as students are prepared for lives of strong character, public service, and leadership. Hathaway Brown respects and affirms the dignity and worth of each member of our community. These values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are rooted in our mission, our motto, and We Learn Not For School But For Life, and our Community Agreement, and we expect that all those affiliated with the institution uphold and demonstrate these shared values both in spirit and in practice at all times. We Learn Not For School, But For Life Hathaway Brown is a school for girls, and it's so much more. It is a school for scientists and writers and artists and budding entrepreneurs. It is a training ground for athletes and dancers and musicians and actresses. It is where young people are empowered to ask questions, challenge conventions, and explore opportunities. And everything we do is guided by our motto: We Learn Not for School, But for Life. Since 1876, HB has given students the tools they need to confidently embrace all the possibilities that exist for them beyond our Shaker Heights campus. The faculty's dedication to hands-on experiential learning at all levels can be observed every day in the classrooms, libraries, science labs, theatres, dance studios, and art rooms, as well as on the athletic fields. In addition to the superior academic preparation they receive, at every turn, HB students are inspired to become the best people they can be. We encourage girls of all ages and boys in our Early Childhood program to take chances, stretch their minds, work together, and pick themselves up and start over when they need to. The results of this philosophical approach are both astounding and humbling. We have amassed more than our fair share of awards and accolades in every discipline you can imagine through the years. Students continually perform with notable distinction on high-level tests and in the rate at which they are accepted to their first-choice, top-tier colleges and universities. From 2009-2011, HB produced more National Merit Finalists than any other girls' school in the country. But no matter how well they fare by these measures, all of our students can apply what they have learned in the classroom to their lives. They know how to test theories, hold authority accountable, find beauty in overlooked places, implement creative solutions, and lend a hand where it has needed. And wherever they go from here, HB graduates bring strong character, unparalleled intelligence, unbridled enthusiasm, and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge along with them.
  2. Founded in 1784, MB has been a leader in education for over 230 years. We have a proven tradition of academic excellence, a commitment to excellent teaching, and a dedication to fostering character and confidence in young people. Our stunning 33-acre campus – formerly the farm of 18th-century Quaker abolitionist leader Moses Brown – provides extensive academic, artistic, and athletic facilities right in the heart of Providence. Born a Baptist, Moses Brown became a convinced Quaker later in life. He thenceforth devoted his great intellect, business acumen, and political skill to economic development and social justice issues. One of America's leading abolitionists, and the godfather of America's Industrial Revolution, in 1784, he championed the opening of a school that would educate Quaker children–and non-Quakers–with ethical values at the center of their experience. Over 230 years later, Moses Brown School is still fulfilling that vision. At Moses Brown, 111 faculty members serve roughly 775 boys and girls ages 3-18, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1. With $4 million awarded annually in need-based financial aid, roughly one-quarter of students receive financial support from the school. They enjoy 33 wooded acres in urban Providence and an additional 20 acres of athletic fields in nearby Rehoboth, Mass. And with 25% of our student body being people of color, our community matches our drawing area's demographics. We are a Quaker school, one of the oldest and largest of a network of 78 Friends schools in the U.S. While each is independent, we all share the same essential mission: to nurture and celebrate each child's unique gifts, talents, and identities – what we often refer to as their Inner Light. To that end, at MB, we immerse students in an incredibly varied and rigorous program, including 17 musical and performance groups across the school, 50 clubs and activities, and 58 athletic teams competing in 18 different sports. Upper School students choose from among 19 AP and 20 honors courses. And while individual achievement is prized at MB, we also foster a close sense of community, evident in collaborative relationships between students and teachers and in our weekly Quaker meeting (30 minutes of silent reflection during which anyone may share a thought or message).

JBU's mission is summarized in its two historic mottos: Christ over all, and Head, Heart, and Hand. The mission of the Division of Engineering and Construction Management is to provide a university education integrating general studies and disciplinary studies to equip students to excel in their chosen major. The faculty of the division seeks to educate the student in the methods of care and logically understand problems and design solutions for those problems. Education within the division is in the context that "All truth is God's truth"; therefore, a biblical world- and life-view is the basis for problem-solving procedures. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." (Proverbs 1:7). A low student-faculty ratio within the division assures interaction between faculty and students on these and other issues. The curriculum and the co-curricular prepare the division graduates to function effectively in advanced technical positions or enter graduate studies. The Division of Interdisciplinary Studies offers the Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies, an Associate of Arts degree in General Education, and a minor in Military Science. It houses the Gateway Seminar in Christian Scholarship, specific Honors Scholars courses, and courses relating to learning assistance and career planning. In exceptional circumstances, a student wishing to pursue a course of study not available within the stated offerings of John Brown University may present a petition to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies requesting approval of an individualized program leading to a bachelor's or associate's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Such a program should be thoughtfully designed in consultation with a faculty advisor after the student has had significant college experience. Therefore, a student should not begin the proposal process before the second semester of the sophomore year. Neither bachelor's nor associate's Interdisciplinary Studies degrees are available to students pursuing another degree. The Honors Program is designed to enrich and motivate you academically and spiritually in and out of the classroom. Classes are small and interactive with excellent faculty. Here you have opportunities to co-teach with a professor, conduct research, take educational trips, study abroad, present your research at regional and national conferences, and much more. Our mission is to attract academically motivated students, challenge Christian scholars for God's kingdom, and enrich the broader university community. JBU's Honors Scholars Program challenges students who are passionate about learning in each discipline. Our goal is to provide curricular and co-curricular opportunities to pursue learning excellence both in and out of the classroom. 15. 16. View full school
