Founded in 1951, Brookstone School is Columbus' only 3K through 12 independent college preparatory program. Brookstone offers a first-rate college-preparatory experience to more than 820 students in four divisions with an unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
Brookstone's core values – loyalty, courage, wisdom, honor, service, respect, and leadership – guide the educational program and daily interactions among students and adults. Brookstone prepares its students for lives of engagement and service to others with a highly developed and intentional focus on servant leadership and character development.
We seek to prepare students for college by developing the skills and knowledge necessary for admission and realizing their highest potential for success while in college and beyond. We seek to develop all individual student dimensions in an atmosphere that supports high standards of conduct under our stated Honor Code and commitment to the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Brookstone School proudly maintains unique teaching and high expectations for learning in an environment that values scholarship and achievement. Brookstone offers a curriculum that cultivates the pursuit of academic, moral, physical, personal, and civic excellence and leadership. It focuses on preparing students for college studies and their lifelong pursuits.
Research confirms that children learn in many different ways. Brookstone recognizes and celebrates that learning styles are as unique as each child. Understanding these differences is at the heart of the Learning Center mission and makes Brookstone effective in helping students develop their areas of weakness. Learning differences do not discriminate. Nearly 25% of school-age children have ADD/ADHD or a reading disorder, and about 15-20% of the US population has dyslexia. In light of this, the Learning Center offers solutions: heightened awareness, early intervention, remediation, and relationship building, and support for both students and families. All services offered are included in the cost of tuition and vary according to grade level.
They guide our students through exercises in self-reflection and self-expression, starting with stage-appropriate conversations in the eighth and ninth grade years. When counselors meet individually with students, they do not launch into conversations about specific colleges, testing, and application techniques. Instead, their goal is to get to know our students as dynamic individuals. Each counselor works with a range of students. Some come with well-defined interests and aspirations, while others are still in the early stages of exploration and development. There is no "right place" to start. Counselors will challenge students with well-defined goals to think outside their comfort zone and help less-focused students to hone in on their priorities. The joy in counseling at Brookstone is meeting the students where they are and then helping them stretch, self-reflect, question, expand, and eventually focus. Ours is a highly individualized and time-intensive process, but the reward is in the results: happy students who have found their college "fit."
The Brookstone athletic experience is built on a foundation of sportsmanship, teamwork, and commitment to excellence. As individuals and as teammates, our athletes and coaches take athletics seriously, but that never means winning at all costs. We value each other, we respect our opponent, and we are passionate about our sports. As a result, Brookstone teams and athletes in a wide range of sports are highly successful at state, regional, and even national levels.
For Brookstone School to have a successful extra-curricular program, it is of utmost importance that our students participate in as many activities as possible. Therefore, students will be allowed to participate in more than one sport or activity during a season whenever possible. For this to happen, a spirit of cooperation and shared goals must exist among faculty members, coaching staff, and students.
