Ysgol Bryn Gwalia has a wonderful atmosphere where learning and respect are at their heart. You can sense this as soon as you walk through the gates. Everyone feels valued and the children develop into caring citizens who are knowledgeable and thoughtful about Wales and the world in which they live. The staff works very hard to create lessons and learning experiences that are stimulating and challenging.
The school is central to the community and activities supporting families are an important part of our busy calendar. We aspire to enrich the lives of all of our children and raise their aspirations for their future. We are determined that our children love every minute of being in primary school and leave well prepared for the rest of their school journey and their lives with plenty of happy memories to look back on.
The staff and governors are immensely proud of this school, of the achievements of our children, of our supportive parents, and the dedication and talent of our staff team. The Welsh educational curriculum for 3-16-year-olds is being transformed and Ysgol Bryn Gwalia has been an integral part right from the beginning. Following the publication of the "Successful Futures" document by Professor Donaldson in March 2015, Ysgol Bryn Gwalia applied to become a Curriculum Pioneer School and was invited in November to help shape the discussions of the initial strategy document with the headteacher, Mr. Jones, becoming a member of the Strategic Design Group.
For the first time, teachers will shape their curriculum. This has necessitated frequent visits to Cardiff to meet with other teaching professionals and educational experts. His first job was to help write one of the initial strategy strands, "Welsh Dimension, International Perspective, and Wider Skills". As part of this work, Mr. Jones presented this strategy paper to over 150 leaders of education in January 2017 in Llandudno. Currently, under Strand 3 & 4, Miss Allen is working on the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE), which is one of the six AoLEs that Donaldson suggests are needed to develop our young learners into the future. This AoLE will contain the curriculum for subjects such as Music, Art, Dance, Drama, and Digital Media and put creativity slap bang in the center of each child's learning.
