We are a Voluntary Controlled Church in Wales Primary School, a rural school that was established in 1861. It is a day co-educational school for girls and boys aged 3 to 11, with 3 full-time and 1 part-time members of teaching staff working in three classrooms. At present, there are 48 full-time pupils and 6 Nursery children. The Village Hall and local sports field, which are situated next to the school, are used for Physical Education. The village is four miles from Abergele.
The school adopts the Local Education Authority’s Admission Policy. Pupils are admitted into full-time education in September following their 4th birthday. A child can be admitted into the Nursery class in September following their 3rd birthday. Nursery pupils will receive part-time education and will attend school every morning from 9:00 – 11:00 pm. New Nursery intake is invited to spend an induction morning at the school during the end of the summer term before admission.
Recognizing its historical foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character under the principles of the Church in Wales and partnership with the churches at the parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
We aim to create an establishment with a happy caring and friendly atmosphere, where there is trust, confidence, and openness, where individual contributions are valued, where praise and recognition can be given, and support offered when difficulties are encountered. This approach is conducive to the personal, social, and moral development of each child.
The school aims to establish a healthy attitude to learning, to develop self-respect and self-discipline. School rules are kept simple and we promote positive discipline. Where punishment is necessary this takes the form of a reprimand and withdrawal from certain privileges. We endeavor to instill in the pupils a healthy attitude towards school life and to develop self-respect, self-discipline, regard for others, and acceptance of moral values. When presenting the Curriculum, the school is careful in ensuring that the content and nature of the work are design.
