The best thing about Lakefield College School is our people and the spirit of LCS - the strong sense of community and the warmth and commitment of our students, staff, and volunteers. You cannot help but notice how happy our students are. These elements lie at the core of LCS, and you can feel the "pride of school" that radiates from so many who have been touched by their experiences here. This pride is enhanced by our beautiful campus that provides a great outdoor classroom – equipped with 315 acres of beautiful grounds, a lake, fields, forests, and small village-like residences. It does not feel like a school at all.
Our mission - to challenge and enable our students to reach their potential in mind, body, and spirit - comes with a commitment to uphold our values and ensure that our students' academic and social needs are paramount. Programs like our Leadership, Character, Values Program (LCV) provides students with a set of tools for applying in all aspects of their lives. Parents entrust their children to us, and we take that trust very seriously.
We often say that students learn in "ways they could never imagine" and "through the relationships they build." They also learn through their environment, international opportunities, expeditions, and teachers who know them well. They enjoy individualized learning support and are immersed in knowledge and experiences that only a program like ours can deliver to educate the whole student.
Encouraging rigor, developing resourcefulness, and building resiliency are critical aspects of our program. If our goal is to prepare our students for university and success in life, there is no better place to experience challenge, success, and failure.
We are so proud of our graduates who have received offers of admission to exceptional post-secondary institutions from around the world, where they continue to follow their passion in various fields. Last year, the 93 members of the Class of 2019 received University/College offered, with scholarship offers totaling $1.2 million. We hope that all of our students maintain their hunger and curiosity for learning throughout their lifetime and that they continue to cultivate their love of the outdoors and appreciation for nature and our environment.
Our vision is to inspire teenagers to become leaders who care, connect, and contribute. We aspire to be internationally recognized for crafting transformative experiences that deliver our commitment to Authentic Learning, Community First, and Outdoors Every Day. Our Mission "To challenge and enable students to reach their potential in mind, body, and spirit".
At Lakefield College School, we believe in the whole student's education and the overall concurrent development of the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical qualities needed to lead a fulfilling life. Understanding that personal passions and interests drive learning, LCS teachers, mentors, and coaches openly model the joy learning can bring when it is connected to one's identity and experience. Genuine connections between teachers and students offer each student the safety to challenge themselves academically and to trust that the support they need is available when necessary. With a wide breadth of meaningful learning opportunities to choose from, LCS students learn to think creatively and critically while discovering their passions on a pathway to success that is as unique as they are.
The immediate academic objective of students at Lakefield College School is university entrance. One hundred percent of last year's graduating class was accepted at university, and the university of their choice accepted 80 percent. University expectations of student achievement continue to rise. This is a product of both the increasing competition for university places and the increasing breadth and complexity of knowledge that universities must impart to their students.
Business and professional leaders and university educators are demanding that secondary school graduates have a substantial knowledge base and the sustained work habits and the intellectual skills needed to respond to changing circumstances and develop creative solutions to problems.
To prepare students well for the challenges of university and a rapidly changing world, Lakefield's faculty engage students in academic activities that will enable them to develop disciplined habits of study, critical thinking skills, and a talent for co-operative problem-solving. Also, students are given significant opportunities to use modern technology to assist them in their learning. To ensure intellectual breadth, students at Lakefield are required to study a core curriculum that reflects the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Lakefield is a school that takes pride in scholarship and encourages students to do the same. An enriched program, including Advanced Placement courses, offers challenging opportunities. Full details of the LCS Curriculum can be found in the Course Selection and Academic Policy Guide.
