Kamloops Christian School founded in 1985 as six Kamloops churches (Calvary Community Church, Evangelical Free Church, Full Gospel Tabernacle, Gateway City Church, Sahali Fellowship, and Southwest Community Church) came together to bring Christian education to the Kamloops area. A Board of Directors was put together (Kamloops Christian School Association), accreditation was finalized, and classes began. For the first few years, K.C.S.K.C.S. started as a K-9 school and rented space in the Kamloops Indian Band Residential School, later moving to Kamloops Alliance Church, purchasing the then unused North Kamloops Elementary School located on Willow Avenue (now Library Square). Finally, in 2003, an agreement was made between K.C.S.A.K.C.S.A. and the City of Kamloops to trade Willow Campus for the Cottonwood Center for $1. K.C.S.K.C.S. has been operating out of Cottonwood Center ever since and has expanded to have an Early Childhood Education Center, business rental space. Classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The future is bright for K.C.S.K.C.S. because we know the Lord is in it. As a past Chairman of K.C.S.A.K.C.S.A. board once said: "It is God'sGod's school. His name is on the building".
Kamloops Christian School offers a great learning environment for your children. We offer a Christ-centred, Bible-based education in a friendly, family-like environment. K.C.S.K.C.S. not only meets the B.C.B.C. curriculum mandates for each grade and subject area but works to extend the learning of our students by focusing on communication, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity while continually integrating a biblical perspective into the learning. We strive to teach our students to understand and contextualize a biblical worldview and lead and demonstrate moral and healthy convictions and habits of life. In essence, we strive to teach the whole student (mind, body, spirit).
Our teachers are talented, experienced, qualified educators who understand best practices for teaching students and understand the power of relationships and how important it is to educate students. It would be my honor to show and discuss to anyone interested what K.C.S.K.C.S. can offer. K.C.S.K.C.S. has 30+ years of high-quality education behind it, and we are all very excited about what we can accomplish moving forward.
K.C.S.K.C.S. Elementary includes Kindergarten through Grade 5 classes. Talented and experienced Christian educators provide a nurturing learning environment for our elementary students. Teachers strive to understand and meet each child's unique needs, from gifted children to those with special needs. And they bring a Christian perspective into all their teaching.
Our Middle School program is designed to meet students' needs and interests throughout Grades 6–8. Students aged 11–14 years old have different needs and interests from younger students. They benefit from having opportunities for leadership and exploring new practical and creative skills. We intentionally consult with Middle School students regularly and design the Middle School program to be flexible. Teachers focus not only on academic excellence but also on students' social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
The Kamloops Christian School High School Campus implements a comprehensive education to train the whole student. As a staff, we seek to develop our students' academic ability, Christ-centered worldview, and work ethic to strive in all life avenues. Our focus on project-based learning and our inquiry facilitated instruction gives students the skills they need to think critically, work collaboratively, and creatively solve problems. Students entering Grade 10 begin the Graduation Program, which starts with a Career Education Project, enabling them to plan for the future, explore various career options, and research the skills and education needed to move into such a career after graduation.
As well, students in Grade 11 begin a Capstone Project that culminates at the end of Grade 12 with a presentation in a chosen format or method, allowing students to reflect on personal strengths, strategic goals and to develop a plan for the future. Our students leave school, upon graduation, with a Dogwood Diploma and the necessary skills to be successful in life beyond Secondary School.
As a Christian school, we endeavor to integrate a Biblical-Christian perspective into all our courses using the Teaching for Transformation framework. Students learn to think critically about the Christian response to social, political, and cultural issues, vice versa, how the world responds and perceives a Christian response. Our goal is to develop in young people the fruits of the spirit to live out the two greatest commandments: to love God and love our neighbors.
In conjunction with this, K.C.S.K.C.S. offers several Biblically-based courses, allowing students to express and grow their faith: courses such as Worship, Christian Principles, Ethics, and our newly developed L.E.A.DL.E.A.D. The program strives to prepare students for leadership and service in multiple venues, both international and local.
