Founded in 1969, BSB is an outstanding British success story in Europe. Since its inception, the school has gone from strength to strength, combining the best features of British education with a European and international perspective. BSB is truly a world class international learning community. It is sour shared ethos of ‘learning together: inspiring success’ that makes us a high performance school.

BSB is an all-through international school with 1,350 students from 70 nationalities aged from 1-18 years. We are the only school in Belgium to offer three pre-university routes: A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and BTEC vocational courses in Applied Science, Business, Hospitality and Sport. Our Primary curriculum offers a bespoke, skills-based, inquiry-driven approach adapted from the UK national curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

Since BSB’s early beginnings when Sir Dick Pantlin, with a small group of like-minded businessmen, opened the school in 1970 on the present site, the school has grown steadily and successfully. With considerable foresight, our founders and the first Principal, Alan Humphries, understood that for all students and teachers to be on first name terms would ease communication, break down barriers, and help the integration of all children especially those whose first language was not English. It is a tradition we both retain and cherish.

At The British School of Brussels (BSB), we believe that learning should be academically centred, but sensitive to the wider needs of students and their families. Our goal is to create young adults who rise to the challenge of the modern world. We want to inspire and motivate responsible, engaged students who have respect for themselves and each other. Our governance, leadership, staff, curriculum, and facilities all work in support of this philosophy. We achieve this through:

    • High quality teaching and learning
    • High quality support for learning
    • A creative dynamic and holistic curriculum
    • Enhancing learning through leading-edge technologies
    • Leading excellence and innovation in professional practice and development
    • The fostering of international mindedness in all members of our community
    • Effective partnerships with the local and wider community
    • High quality and sustainable campus facilities and resources
    • A safe and secure learning environment
    • Effective governance and leadership.

Individually, each word represents a concept that is important to us. Together, the words exemplify the philosophy of the school. BSB is a world class international learning community that is:

    • Welcoming and caring
    • Working together to challenge everyone to achieve their academic and personal potential
    • Inspiring an on-going desire to broaden minds and horizons
    • Nurturing global awareness and realising success.
