Our school is part of this community's fabric, a living, breathing history that has contributed to this region's shaping.

Our students' needs are at the heart of every decision that we make. Our staff is committed to developing each student's confidence and self-knowledge. Our holistic approach to education challenges each young man and young woman to grow academically, socially, physically, and spiritually.

We firmly maintain that when our students' well-being is attended to, it is then that they can achieve academic excellence. We are committed to working closely with students and their families to provide excellence in student well-being and pastoral care.

As the students progress through school, they are given an increasing choice in developing their learning pathways. Under the guidance of our staff, they begin to develop and refine their career aspirations. This gradual process enables our young people to make informed choices about their senior secondary years to undertake VCE, VET, or VCAL programs.

We are proud of our consistent record of excellent results, among the best in the district. Our VCE graduates confidently take their place in tertiary courses in their chosen fields. Our VCAL and VET students successfully move into apprenticeships, the workforce, and other training programs. The range of pathways that the students aspire to, and achieve, is truly remarkable.

To Believe, To Think, To Achieve'. At Bayview College, we believe education is a holistic experience, engaging all students' aspects. We believe every student is a unique individual who learns in their way, in their timing. Our Curriculum aims to reflect this, offering students a breadth of experiences while allowing sufficient time and space to engage deeply in the course content. Our approach places the student, their needs, and interests at the center of planning by designing a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for every student. This plan is developed in collaboration with the student, Parent/Guardian, and School and includes individualized and personalized learning pathways for every student. On our Website, you will find a wealth of information about the Curriculum we offer and how it is structured to cover the Australian Curriculum in a way that intentionally enables students the ability to extend or consolidate their knowledge as required.

At Bayview College, we know that academic excellence is achieved by innovative, open-minded, empathetic, and questioning students. Our Curriculum and co-curriculum programs encourage our students to encourage a mindset and outlook of creativity, initiative, and self-reliance. We aim to have students and teachers who possess the following core attributes:

    • Intellectual curiosity
    • Passion, the strength of character, persistence, resilience, and ruggedness.
    • Courage to live with ambiguity, to seek alternative pathways, and to take calculated risks.
    • The sense of teamwork and 'giving back' to the community
    • Grounded in the values of compassion, integrity, respect, and responsibility serve as a guiding principle to navigate life choices.

All Bayview College students have access to the key learning areas of English, Faith & Values, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Health and Physical Education, Technology, Visual & Performing Arts, and Japanese during the Years 7-10 learning the program.

Year 7 has a prescribed approach to learning areas whereby all students study all areas to ensure a breadth of learning is achieved. In Year 8, the flexibility level increases as students begin to refine their interests and make elective choices. From Year 9, students have the option to study a Unit 1 VCE subject or choose a 'Pre-VCE' subject to prepare them for accelerated VCE in Year 10.

All Year 7-10 students develop a Personal Learning Program (PLP) with a mentor teacher and their parents/guardians. These plans encourage students to look ahead in their educational journey to carefully map out the areas they wish to study to broaden their vocational horizons and extend personal interests. Subjects offered at Bayview College provide strong foundations for further study, vacation studies, or work. From Year 8, students can choose to continue their study of Japanese as their LOTE. Students who continue their LOTE studies into the Senior Years have the opportunity to participate in an exchange program to Japan and distinct advantages in VCE.

In Years 8, 9, and 10, students begin to specialize. They can pursue their passions by selecting elective subjects from within the Visual and Performing Arts, Food Technology, Information Technology, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, and Science learning areas. The elective program enables students to begin to specialize and further develop their skills and knowledge in their interest areas.

Students who have demonstrated a good work ethic and consistent academic progress can elect to work at an advanced level and begin VCE studies while in Year 9 or 10 or commence a VET certificate at TAFE. Students who take this option can broaden their choices for future study.

In Year 11 and 12, students select from a broad range of VCE studies and attend seminars for Faith and Values. Students can also choose to undertake VET, VCAL studies, or a School-Based Apprenticeship as part of their academic program. At Bayview College, we believe that learning is a fulfilling and life-long process. It is enhanced and nurtured by:

    • Interaction with parents
    • Respect and friendship between students and teachers
    • An acceptance that each student is an individual
    • Opportunities for parents to contribute to the learning process
    • Caring, motivated, skilled, and qualified teachers
    • Systematic monitoring and regular reporting of student progress
    • A contribution to the community outside the academic program.
