Job Description Summary

HPI’s Regulatory Management and Chemical Compliance team is hiring a Regulatory Toxicologist to support HP supplies programs, in support of its Print and 3D Businesses units. This person will be based in Vancouver WA. The person hired for this position will be part of a team of professional toxicologists that partner with product design teams, raw material suppliers, global marketing teams, and external toxicology testing laboratories, to improve and assure product safety and chemical compliance performance for HP’s ink, ink supplies and toner.

Job Description

HPI’s Regulatory Management and Chemical Compliance team is strategically investing in expanding and enabling market share leadership across numerous printing platforms and ink supplies businesses. The traditional consumer and office inkjet applications have significantly grown and evolved into diverse printing applications with a diverse global customer base now including commercial and industrial markets, in a wide variety of end-use applications. Accompanying HP’s technological growth are dynamic changes in traditionally non-digital markets, significant supply chain changes by HP and its customers, and increasing complexity driven by the need to support the conversion from analog (traditional) to digital printing. Global chemical compliance requirements continue to evolve, expand and increase in complexity, demanding a more comprehensive and proactive approach to effectively manage ink component portfolios in support of unrestricted assurance of HP’s printing supplies.

HP’s Regulatory Management and Chemical Compliance Team is committed to protecting HP’s current product portfolio and global customer base as well as our New Product Introductions (NPI) by ensuring compliance with all applicable worldwide and country-specific chemical regulations, while avoiding interruptions or risks to ongoing supply.

Based in Vancouver WA, the Regulatory Toxicologist will report to the Regulatory Management and Chemical manager, and will play a critical role in ensuring HPI’s Print and 3D products comply with worldwide chemical regulatory requirements. The toxicologist will partner with HP’s global/regional teams, legal counsel, R&D, product engineering, external suppliers and regulatory consultants, and supply chain professionals as well as global manufacturing facilities to improve and assure product safety and chemical compliance performance.

The Regulatory Toxicologist role is accountable for understanding and implementing diverse and evolving compliance requirements as part of the global ink regulatory landscape through execution of HP’s Design for the Environment (DfE) program, regulatory compliance goals, risk assessments, and supply chain collaboration by fostering effective relationships and a strong team environment.

Responsibilities

· Conduct compliance and toxicological assessments, manage global compliance documentation, and communicate findings to product research and development teams.

· Ensure product compliance with worldwide chemical regulatory requirements.

· Complete accurate toxicological assessments in accordance with department procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Establish clear compliance goals with internal partner organizations for new ink development programs. Document and communicate Design for Environment (DfE) and regulatory compliance status to product development teams with periodic management updates.

· Prepare and coordinate chemical notifications, toxicology, physio-chemical testing and product registrations for the jurisdictions where chemical notification schemes exist.

· Assess and implement hazard communication (HazCom) and product labeling requirements, health and environmental classifications and transportation classifications to ensure compliance.

· Respond to customer inquiries regarding product safety and chemical compliance attributes of HP supplies.

· Support department team members and programs including product stewardship, product take back/recycling, regulatory management and chemical compliance and toxicology.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Toxicology or equivalent.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Maintains excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong technical writing and report authoring.  Frequently required to deliver clear, concise and informative presentations to senior management, in order to foster understanding and support for complex regulatory compliance actions.
  • Must have strong technical data management skills and competency in using various assessment and tracking tools, spreadsheets, databases and Microsoft-based programs.
  • Demonstrates competency and efficacy in project and task management while functioning as an integral part of a larger and diverse program team.
  • Ability to work across geographic, cultural and interdisciplinary boundaries.
  • Travel less than 25% with possibility for both domestic and international travel.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledgeable of worldwide regulatory requirements for chemical products.
  • Prepare and complete new chemical notifications/registrations.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary project teams and working cross functionally.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing consumer product regulations and various material certifications.
  • Knowledgeable of chemical DfE processes and/or green chemistry approaches.
  • Experience with food packaging/food contact regulations as they pertain to printing applications and various jurisdictions/countries.
  • Ability to develop procedures and implement processes for assessment and documentation of product regulatory compliance performance.
  • Demonstrated project management skills enabling a clear summary of facts and conclusions and the ability to identify and present alternatives to ensure a successful path forward.
  • Experience with the utilization and maintenance of one or more commercially available SDS authoring / chemical management software packages (MSDgen, WERCS, SAP, or ProductVision). Administration-level knowledge strongly desired.

Per the Washington statute, the estimated range of compensation for this job in that location, at the time of this posting, is 79,150.00 - 114,750.00 USD Annual.  This position may be eligible for incentive pay, for openings where this is applicable.
