Why this role is important?

As an integral member of the HR Leadership team, the Director of HR Divisional Strategy & Projects assumes the crucial role of leading specific projects and initiatives that align directly with the Human Resources strategy. This involves overseeing the design, development, and successful delivery of these endeavors. Collaborating closely with the SVP of HR and HR Leads for the Division & Business Units, the director ensures exceptional project outcomes and takes the lead on enterprise-level initiatives. Leveraging expertise in Strategy and Project Management, along with data-driven insights and reporting, the incumbent contributes to the success of all HR Strategy and Planning initiatives. This involves maintaining a well-balanced focus on strategy while actively driving the execution of various initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytic and strategic support and mentorship to SVPs and the HR leadership team regarding projects/program rollout, ensuring, efficient process delivery approaches and effective organizational change principles are applied.

  • Lead ad hoc Enterprise central initiatives (as required), and various HR projects while proactively identifying and implementing standard methodologies.

  • Lead and coordinate quarterly team and COE meetings

  • Define strategic processes and planning for initiatives by summarizing, communicating, and aligning on inputs from business areas and other internal partners as required.

  • Designs and leads cadence for Leadership Team Governance initiatives, content for any internal or external speaking events for the HR Leadership team, and designs deck building & storyboarding for executive-level presentations, communication, and reporting for HR and business unit Leadership team meetings.

  • Conduct a variety of research & trend scoping, provide analysis on a regular basis, and develop tangible metrics to measure the success of a project and ensure tracking against targets is in place.

  • Work with various project teams to identify and assess project risks and mitigation plans, take a focused approach to leading project issues and risks

  • Review and prioritize multiple cross-divisional project requests within the SVP, HR portfolio, including support for enterprise projects outside of key HRLT reporting members as required.

  • Drive and influence workstream leads and project managers on program activities to ensure results are achieved on time, within budget, and achieve the strategic goals of the program.

  • Support for other ad-hoc projects, initiatives, and/or reporting requests

  • Support the implementation of solutions and changes, including education and training, to staff on new roles, processes, or functions as a result of new projects within the business.

  • Assess the progress of various projects and analytics and lead cross-functional teams to effectively communicate and present findings, recommendations, and status updates to Project Sponsors and Executive Leadership.

  • Strong communication including confidence in public speaking and presenting in front of large groups, writing and story-telling, PowerPoint design, and developing impactful updates and proposals to senior leaders.

  • Lead reporting on year-end performance cycle for management board member's alignment and approval across multiple business units.

  • Lead detailed TIAII & DEI analysis for divisional leadership teams and across multiple business units, and support with core HR annual activities such as leadership planning, annual year-end performance and compensation Process, talent calibrations, and talent reviews.

  • Lead and champion relationship management, collaborator communication, and management of cross-team dependencies including management board level and senior executives.

  • Serve as a trusted liaison for the business and proactively clarify and prioritize business ideas, needs, and problems that require collaborating with their peers and senior leaders on how to anticipate challenges proactively and solve potential challenges in advance of impacting team productivity.

Qualifications:

This role is best suited for someone who can contribute both on strategic and tactical levels. Can build strong partnerships, being proactive, influencing others, and having a balanced approach to short- and long-term planning are key requirements for this role.

  • Minimum 7-10 years previous work experience; Human Resources and retail experience strongly preferred

  • University degree or post-secondary education

  • PMP Designation is an asset

  • Proven understanding of the Agile and Scrum methodologies

  • Extensive knowledge of the Human Resource function, along with a solid understanding of the various business unit work environments/models and their specific needs/requirements (Merchandising, Supply Chain, Pharmacy, Corporate Retail, Franchise Retail, union and non-union environments, etc.).

  • A seasoned professional with a demonstrable track record to be strategic and planful, balanced with a practical orientation.

  • Ability to champion Blue Culture and act as an ambassador of the HR function to service all divisions

  • Strong, presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to problem solve

  • Previous experience in developing detailed project plans using project management tools and methodologies is considered an asset

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment

  • Strong technological proficiency to support HR communications/events – Fl!p, Inside HR, One Drive, Yammer, Workday, etc., along with strong MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) particularly PowerPoint / Presentation Creation
