The Ads, Brand & Reputation, and Emerging Experiences Consumer Insights (ABREE CI) Group is part of the broader Data & Insights organization at Netflix. Within ABREE CI, our pod serves as strategic partner to the Public Policy team and looks to leverage data and economic analysis, as well as intelligence and insights techniques to produce the analysis underpinning and strengthening our policy positions. The pod’s analysis also contributes to strengthening relationships and building credibility with regulators. The Senior Economist role focuses on enhancing our policy narratives with research and economic analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop a roadmap for economic research spanning key policy issues and serving Public Policy teams globally
- Oversee and produce rigorous economic analysis of policy issues across a wide spectrum of topics relevant to the digital media and entertainment sector
- Design and apply the appropriate methodologies for varied economic assessments
- Scale our economic impact reporting efforts in relevant markets
- Maintain and manage a large network of vendors to support our deliverables globally
- Work closely with the Data Science and Engineering and the Data Analysis teams to advance policy storytelling and lead experimentation of innovative approaches to analysis
- Engage in external speaking events, panels or meetings as subject matter expert in support of Policy leads as required
- Serve as primary point of contact for economic requests for Global Public Policy teams
- Coordinate and build partnerships with a wide variety of internal stakeholders to build, strengthen and scale our economics function
Your background and characteristics
- Minimum 10 years of experience and background in economics and/or statistics with increasing responsibilities. This can include experience with a regulator, economic consultancy and other related fields.
- Proven experience in working in a global role and operating across different regions with a high degree of cultural awareness.
- Ability to quickly absorb large amounts of data and information to grasp complex policy issues in great detail.
- Flexible and strategic thinker, able to focus on long-term goals, to apply economic concepts to policy challenges and to test new approaches.
- Robust analytical skills complemented by excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to articulate complex problems clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with econometrics principles and ability to manipulate large data sets and build advanced models.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to effectively prioritize.
- Responsiveness and with a bias towards action.
- Experience with project management and experience working with consultants are highly desirable.
- An understanding of the digital media and entertainment sector would be an advantage, as well as curiosity about entertainment, peoples’ tastes in different regions around the world and public policy.
