Netflix Open Connect is one of the largest Content Delivery Networks in the world that delivers double digit percentage share of internet traffic. We are responsible for providing hundreds of millions of Netflix subscribers with the highest quality viewing experience possible. In addition to streaming video, we work on projects within Netflix that leverage physical infrastructure, such as our Cloud Games initiative.
We are looking for a Director to lead the engineering team responsible for development of our content delivery system, which handles delivery of our VOD content, live streams, ads, and static assets. Additionally, the team is responsible for our Smart DNS service and contributes to development of our Cloud Games infrastructure. The content delivery system is composed of application layer code that runs on tens of thousands of Open Connect Appliances and control plane services that run in our AWS Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and development of the Open Connect CDN system
- Help us enhance and scale our live streaming capabilities
- Continue improving our system to be more efficient, reliable, secure, and manageable
- Refine our approach to running multiple CDN services on shared infrastructure
- Create incremental business value by helping identify, evaluate, architect, and implement additional ways to leverage our edge servers
- Nurture and expand a high performance, healthy engineering organization
- Drive and contribute to collaborative projects across engineering and other functions
Requirements
- Experience leading teams responsible for architecture and development of large scale, highly efficient, reliable, and manageable content delivery systems
- Experience building systems that provide low latency delivery of large scale live events
- Thorough technical understanding of internet architecture, video streaming, and related topics
- High comfort with technical complexity and ambiguity, and an interest to pioneer
- Exceptional communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and leadership skills
- Passion for excellence and getting things done

These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location. The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $330,000 - $1,800,000. This market range is based on total compensation (vs. only base salary), which is in line with our compensation philosophy.
