As a 508 Compliance Lead at Octo, you will support compliance for all developed content for a team supporting the Veterans Affairs Section 508 Office in updating its policies and procedures documentation. This position will be responsible for remediation of electronic documents, to ensure federal accessibility rules and regulations are met or exceeded. The candidate must have a thorough understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and be able to apply this knowledge to create strategies and processes for ensuring maximum accessibility of client deliverables.

Program Mission…

The Digital Transformation Center (DTC) supports Veterans Affairs (VA) with onboarding and maintaining enterprise SaaS and PaaS solutions used to support the mission of serving our Veterans and their associated stakeholders. We are digitizing information and processes for improved implementation, leveraging modern tools and low code/no code for reusability and faster delivery.


  • Monitoring and stay up to date with latest industry trends, advancements in technology, and evolution of federal accessibility rules, regulations, and guidance
  • Collaborating with delivery teams to review and ensure deliverables such as PDF, PPT, Excel, and Word documents meet or exceed Section 508 compliance standards and adhere to other applicable accessibility laws
  • Serving as Section 508 coordinator and subject matter expert on all 508 issues
  • Participating in working groups and/or meetings with stakeholders to discuss requirements and/or presenting 508 strategies and solutions
  • Providing guidance on technical issues involving Section 508 as it relates to accessible documents and electronic media
  • Assisting in developing a Section 508 compliance program by ensuring company policies and procedures are consistent with federal and departmental policies and industry best practices
  • Assisting in the development and application of Section 508 Compliance training programs to instruct delivery teams on how to develop compliant products and deliverables

Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with Section 508 compliance and remediation using appropriate tools

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Location: Remote within the United States.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Section 508 compliance and remediation using appropriate tools
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Complete, and up-to-date understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent work ethic with a commitment to client service and the ability to take initiative and work well independently, when required
  • Using electronic tools (e.g., JAWS, CommonLook) for 508 compliance testing
  • Familiarity with the other components of the Rehabilitation Act (Sections 501, 503, and 504)
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
