Business Development Manager – Air & Land

Greece – Athens

Thales has been active in Greece for 45 years, supplying a number of major systems to the Hellenic Armed Forces. These include avionics and mission systems for the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and Mirage 2000-5 combat aircraft, and large-scale air defence systems for the Air Force and the Navy. Thales combat systems are deployed by the Hellenic Navy on-board surface vessels, while Thales PR4G tactical radios, optronic systems and surveillance radars are in service with the Army.

We’re recruiting for a Business Development Manager to join us on a permanent basis to support our ongoing activities in Greece & Cyprus. Reporting to the Key Account Manager and also to Greece & Cyprus Country Director, as Business Development Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of customers’ management within their defined perimeter. This position will primarily be responsible for Defence and Security markets in Greece and Cyprus. This includes developing and maintaining customer relationships, understanding the customers’ procurement needs and connecting the customer with the appropriate Thales Business Line.

Key Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Understanding customers’ needs and requirements in order to meet or exceed financial targets for the account perimeter
  • Promoting Thales’ Defence & Security products, systems and solutions
  • Fostering long-term partnerships and alliances with Thales’ partners
  • Identify, evaluate and further develop business opportunities in accordance to the account strategy and Thales portfolio
  • Assist the Key Account Manager during complex or high value business opportunities. Have an ability to manage, influence and motivate internal stakeholders from Technical, Operational, Commercial and Legal disciplines as well as an ability to structure the capture from a route-to-market perspective
  • Assist the Key Account Manager to run the account process within the given perimeter, using Thales’ best practices throughout the win cycle

Skills and experience:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the Defence & Security market Greece and Cyprus, including but not limited to, a clear understanding of the customers’ operational needs and their technical and commercial procurement processes.
  • Be able to develop customer intimacy through actions designed to foster long-term relations, including ensuring customer satisfaction by dealing with possible non-compliance and complaints
  • Can track market dynamics and foster close customer working relationships in order to anticipate future requirements
  • Knowledge of operational needs in the Defence domain, preferably Radars, Electronic Warfare, Air Defense and Comms. 
  • The candidate should have engineering background with experience in the military operations
  • Thorough knowledge of methods and best practices as applied to military sales;
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to present at exhibitions and conferences;
  • Must be fluent in Greek and English in writing and oral.
  • Need to be Greek national (for security clearance)

  • Be solution-oriented with a broad understanding of military operational and technical areas and in running a business in general;
  • Must have political awareness and the ability to act autonomously but with a clear team focus;
  • Must understand how to operate in an environment where Customers, Competitors, Partners and Suppliers are interchangeable;
  • Be a trusted advisor/partner and have confidence in their own capability;
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to present at exhibitions and conferences;
