Job Summary:

Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation.  We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.

The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics.

The Control & Diagnostics Systems Engineer Role for Advanced Military Engine Program (AMEP) will be responsible for development of Prognostic Health Management (PHM) System for 6th Gen Military Engine Programs.  This includes defining the subsystem requirements for hardware and software, advancing a variety of technologies for gas path diagnostics, fault detection and isolation through Machine Learning (ML) and Big Data Analytics.  PHM Sensing Systems cover front to back of the Propulsion System and interface with aircraft software for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) fleet management.  In this role, DPHM Systems Engineer will collaborate with a large cross-section of P&W engineering and sustainment team as well as Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) customer to identify CBM capability needs for 6th Gen programs and capturing them in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.  This position type is for on-site and requires active security clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support PHM system design for gaspath monitoring
  • Develop Analytics and Algorithm for physics-based gas path diagnostics
  • Utilize MBSE to define PHM System and Subsystem level Hardware and Software requirement  
  • Collaborate to advance new technologies for sensing systems
  • Implement Artificial Intelligent/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Fault Detection, Isolation and Removal
  • Support PHM system software development and test case for software logics

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 2+ years of engineering experience or An Advanced Degree
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with modern data analysis and signal processing techniques.
  • Demonstrated capability in applying advanced analytics to real-world sensor data, including machine learning methods and life prediction / time-to-event estimation.
  • Experience in hardware/software risk reduction and capability validation efforts
  • Experience in coordinating multiple organizations to deliver on schedule and on budget.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to aerospace control and diagnostic systems.
  • Proficiency with Python, Java, Kubernetes, Apache Spark, and Agile
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing tools and methods, particularly AWS and/or Azure.
  • Security Clearance is preferred; willing to obtain and maintain.
