Job Description

The Property Tax Team in Amazon’s Tax Department is currently seeking a Tax Manager with a special focus on Project Kuiper— an initiative to launch a constellation of low earth orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The position will encompass Central Assessment, Real Estate, and Personal Property Compliance Tax functions to support Amazon’s new internet service provider business. The Tax Department is a fast-paced, team-focused, dynamic environment where excellent communication skills are essential.

The Tax Manager will be a key member of the team and will have special focus on the new internet service provider business, and will have exposure to Amazon’s various business activities and facilities across the United States and Canada.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage multiple deadlines and resolve matters independently and proactively. This role will contribute to the real estate valuation review and appeals function as well as the personal property compliance and appeals function. In addition, the individual will conduct property tax payment processing, forecasting, accruals, and reconciliations related to fulfillment centers, delivery stations, data centers and administrative offices, among others.

The Tax Manager will coordinate with our internal Finance, Lease Administration, Legal, and Public Policy partners as well as external Landlords and taxing authorities. The successful candidate will possess the ability to independently manage a high volume of projects, react with appropriate urgency, take effective action in ambiguous circumstances, and solve problems impacting internal customers.


Key job responsibilities
• Supporting Centrally Assessed Property compliance and appeals function
• Supporting Personal Property compliance and appeals function
• Supporting Real Estate managers and appeals function
• Obtaining and reviewing assessment notices for appeal review purposes
• Communicating true-ups to finance partners
• Managing the incorporation of new sites into the portfolio
• Escalating judgment-based recommendations to senior management for approval
• Identifying areas for improvement within assigned role and responsibilities
• Supporting other property tax projects and initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Logistics, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience using Itamlink for assessment and appeal management
- Experience with multi-state, multi-entity corporate structures a plus
- Understanding of valuation methodology
- Ability to work independently, multi-task and be self-motivated
- Strong analytical, research and organizational skills
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Team-player, customer-centric attitude
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $76,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
