SENIOR ANALYST – STATE TAX: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family

The Senior Analyst of State Tax plays a key role the preparation of the state income tax estimates, extensions, and returns as well as state income tax provision. This position is responsible for the preparation of the state income, franchise, and certain gross receipt tax notices, including coordination with the state tax controversy team to align compliance processes, notices, and audit results. This position will also supervise certain tax planning initiatives of the tax department and process improvement projects within the state compliance and reporting process. The Senior Analyst of State Tax will also demonstrate the necessary skills to contribute to a culture of learning, partnering, and delivering to the overall tax organization while reporting to the Director of State Tax on key tax matters and decisions.

How You Will Make a Difference: 

  • Prepare state income tax returns, supporting workpapers, state franchise budget, state tax estimates, extensions, and payments to ensure deliverables are executed accurately and timely

  • Evaluate, update, and validate the OneSource Apportionment tool with entities, groups, filing calendar, and rules

  • Prepare the quarterly state and local income tax provision and documentation such as net operating loss schedules, state blended rates, credits, capital loss schedules, foreign income inclusions, and other permanent adjustments by coordinating with brand controllers, federal tax compliance team, and tax technology team/tax data warehouses

  • Serve as the key role in preparing other special projects, including, but not limited to, process improvements, state tax planning assignments, and impact of proposed and new state tax legislation; assist with the analysis of mergers, acquisitions, and divestures

  • Draft memorandum documenting VF’s state tax positions and application of state tax law to VF’s facts, as necessary, to ensure proper documentation of ASC 740/FIN 48 reserves

  • Assist with certain state and local income tax audits and controversies, including meeting with tax advisors and government officials, developing strategies, and preparing documentation related to the state tax payable and ASC 740/FIN 48 reserves

  • Foster relationships both internally and externally with various accounting groups of domestic VF locations and outside consultants related to tax, accounting, and technology matters; work closely with advisors and other tax team members to provide comprehensive tax solutions to upcoming state tax issues

  • Support the tax department’s efforts related to direct data access and technology implementation through testing and evaluation of feedback related to new processes and technology utilization

Years of Related Professional Experience: 3+ years

Educational/ Position Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or MST, or equivalent certification preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in Big 4, national firm, or large corporate tax department of multinational company

  • 3-5 years of experience in state and local/multistate tax experience required

  • Strong knowledge of a variety of state and local tax laws, including multi-state income tax planning, compliance, preparing returns, and income tax accounting

  • Tax technical skills, including unitary filing, apportionment methodologies, tax base rules, tax research, and compliance and consulting as it relates to multi-state jurisdictions

  • Skills to analyze and model data accurately and efficiently for multiple projects

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, OneSource Income Tax, OneSource Apportionment, SAP, and RIA Checkpoint

  • Exhibit effective project Senior Analyst skills like organizing, managing, and executing multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and time constraints

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills are required; ability to apply systems knowledge to troubleshoot and analyze new issues is critical

  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently with a proactive working style

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements: 

  • Travel by air and overnight, as required 20% amount of time. 

  • Lifting and/or bending, lifting 10 lbs. of weight.

Hiring Range:

$69,600.00 USD - $87,000.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
