Job Description Summary:

The Lead Surgical Technologist and/or the Lead Certified Surgical Technologist prepares the room and gathers supplies needed for surgical procedures; delivers instruments to the surgeon and other members of the surgical team intra operatively; may function as second assistant to the surgeon; assists in the proper decontamination of the room, supplies and instruments post operatively. The Lead Surgical Technologist and/or the Lead Certified Surgical Technologist assists the clinical team leader with case card development and changes. The Lead Surgical Technologist and/or the Lead Certified Surgical Technologist has expertise in surgical service line(s), serves as a primary preceptor for new associates, surgical tech students and senior surgical techs. In collaboration with educators, clinical leads, and managers, contributes in yearly competencies, coaching and mentoring surg tech key constituents. Provides performance documentation to manager. Seeks ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnover time, and maintain efficient workflow and to improve patient satisfaction. Participates in Shared Governance. Collaborates with SPD to maintain instruments and specialty trays for complex cases. In collaboration with the department educator, identifies surgical technician educational needs through observation and audits as it relates to infection control practices at the sterile field, efficiency in case preparations, and overall knowledge of instrumentation and procedures. Conduct quality audits to ensure appropriate infection control and compliance safeguards are followed to drive expected patient outcomes. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist school or equivalent military training, or 10+ years’ experience as a Surgery Tech. BLS. Preferred certification as a CST.

Understanding of procedure performed. Anticipate surgeon’s needs. Have necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care Monitor sterile field Provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions.

Strong clinical knowledge of OR environment. Preferred certification as a CST.
