Our passion is solving our customers’ 21st century maritime challenges with quality and integrity.

The Acoustic Engineer will be responsible for performing model development and computational analysis associated with determining underwater radiated, airborne, structure borne, and pipe flow noise limits as part of a Design Team focused on Total Ship Survivability. Within this Design Team, the engineer will specialize in hullform and internal ship signatures and low observables technology and engineering for surface combatant ships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Utilize 3D models, existing databases, and computational software to identify and solve complex noise propagation issues

  • Perform underwater, airborne, structure borne, and pipe flow noise modeling and simulation and analyze results for validation of design requirements

  • Identify acoustic absorptive and transmission loss design treatments to reduce acoustic signature

  • Perform acoustic data collection and acoustic trial planning

  • Develop CDRLs associated with Acoustic Signature Budgets, Test and Trial reports, Suppression Plans etc. and present results to customer

  • Identify design deficiencies and develop recommendations for solutions

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Physics, Engineering, or similar with 5+ years of relevant work experience in the arena of physics-based acoustics phenomenology

  • Knowledge of Total Ship Acoustic signatures levels including (but not limited to) concepts for underwater radiated, airborne, and structure borne, and pipe flow noise

  • Understanding of design treatments intended to reduce acoustic signatures

  • Competence in computational programming to simulate noise propagation using common software suites such as ANSYS

  • Experience with using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyze acoustic performance

  • Familiarity interpreting and applying relevant military standards such as MIL-STD-740-2 and MIL-STD-1474

  • Demonstrated competence in mathematics and statistical analysis

  • Experience with 3D CAD Modeling software and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) techniques

  • Familiarity with key stakeholders and customers located in shipbuilding industry and relevant government entities such as Naval Surface Warfare Centers, NAVSEA, OPNAV, etc.

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

  • Ability to work independently and with remote team members and/or customers

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or similar with 3+ years of relevant work experience

  • Previous experience in acoustic computation for surface combatant ship design(s)

  • Understanding of surface ship low observable signatures, modeling, design, and solutions in the RCS, INFRARED and/or Electro-Optics/Visible spectra

  • Intermediate knowledge of naval architecture, marine systems, platform or topside design principles

  • Strong technical writing and written and oral communication skills

  • TS SCI Clearance or ability to obtain

Pay Range:

Pay Range $78,000.00 - $141,000.00
