About the Team
You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.
Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings together expertise across intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation, leveraging modern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. MSS also plays a key role in advancing technology modernisation within Government, delivering scalable and adaptable solutions for complex enterprise challenges.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will lead the technical delivery of complex software solutions into secure, standalone environments. You will provide technical direction to multidisciplinary teams of software and platform engineers, connect architecture with implementation, and resolve issues spanning applications, container platforms, infrastructure services and integration workstreams.
- Lead technical planning, solution design and implementation across software uplift, platform migration, integration and deployment activities.
- Own the technical approach, ensuring application, platform, security and integration activities remain aligned across delivery workstreams.
- Coordinate technical readiness across build, test and production environments, including deployment dependencies, release inputs and transition into operational support.
- Guide the adaptation of existing applications for secure environments while maintaining common source code baselines and separating environment-specific configuration from core application logic.
- Manage technical dependencies across applications, platforms and infrastructure services, including interfaces, identity services, object storage, artifact repositories and enterprise Git services.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to software and platform engineers delivering containerised solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm, GitOps and CI/CD practices.
About You
You combine broad technical understanding with the ability to work through implementation detail when required. You can lead software and platform engineering specialists through application uplift, container platform migration and secure systems integration, while working collaboratively with project leadership to balance technical priorities, delivery needs, security, maintainability and operational readiness.
Essential:
- Experience providing technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, including software and platform engineers, in complex delivery or integration environments.
- Ability to translate operational, security and business needs into implementable technical solutions and clearly defined engineering work.
- Knowledge of software architecture, APIs and interfaces, authentication and single sign-on, containerised deployment, integration, verification and engineering lifecycle practices.
- Experience leading application and platform migration activities, including technical reviews, trade-off decisions and resolution of cross-domain issues.
- Capability in technical risk assessment, documentation, decision management and communicating impacts to project leadership.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, architects, engineers, security specialists and project leaders.
Advantageous:
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift, Helm, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines and enterprise source code or artifact repositories.
- Knowledge of secure software delivery, vulnerability remediation, configuration management and deployment into restricted or disconnected environments.
- Exposure to large-scale systems integration, application modernisation or migration from one Kubernetes platform to another.
