The Director, Corporate Affairs – Priority Audiences reports to the Vice President, External Relations and is responsible for building and operationalizing Target's Priority Audiences capability across one or more strategic audience portfolios. This role develops audience-centered strategies that help the organization understand, prioritize, and engage the audiences most critical to Target's reputation and business objectives.
Working across Community & Stakeholder Engagement, Government Affairs, Marketing, Enterprise Insights, Merchandising, and the field—including Global Supply Chain & Logistics (GSCL) and Stores—the Director aligns partners around shared audience priorities and engagement goals. By connecting audience insights with storytelling, stakeholder engagement, reputational risk, and engagement activation, this role creates connection, visibility, and cohesion across Public Affairs while ensuring Target's engagement strategies strengthen trust and advance enterprise priorities.
Audience Strategy & Capability Development: Partner with the Vice President, External Relations to build and operationalize the Priority Audiences capability by leading strategy and planning for assigned audience portfolios. Develop audience strategies, engagement approaches, governance, and planning routines that embed audience priorities into enterprise initiatives and business decisions.
Audience Insights & Strategic Recommendations: Leverage research, Enterprise Insights, and performance intelligence to develop a deep understanding of assigned priority audiences, including their needs, expectations, behaviors, and emerging trends. Translate insights into actionable recommendations that inform audience strategies, engagement plans, and enterprise priorities.
Enterprise Alignment & Portfolio Leadership: Serve as the strategic lead for assigned audience portfolios by convening cross-functional partners and aligning efforts across Community & Stakeholder Engagement, Government Affairs, Marketing, Merchandising, the field, and Corporate Affairs. Connect audience strategies with engagement, storytelling, activation, and reputational priorities to drive coordinated execution and measurable reputation outcomes.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 8–12 years of experience in strategy, marketing, consumer or guest insights, communications, public affairs, external relations, merchandising, business strategy, or a related field.
- Experience developing audience, customer, stakeholder, or market strategies that influence business priorities and engagement approaches.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and building alignment across matrixed organizations.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize research and data into actionable recommendations.
- Experience facilitating senior-level discussions and influencing decisions through relationship building and executive communication.
- Proven ability to establish new processes, governance models, or operating routines that improve collaboration and execution.
- Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders, balancing long-term strategy with operational execution.
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
