Your Impact

As a Store Merchandising – Concept Design & Integration / Visual Intern at Lowe’s, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the development of innovative merchandising concepts and visual experiences that help bring Lowe’s brand and products to life in our stores.

You’ll work alongside Store Merchandising professionals and cross-functional partners to explore how design, visual merchandising, product presentation, space, and customer experience come together to create compelling and functional retail environments. Through project-based work, you’ll help translate creative concepts and business strategies into solutions designed to enhance the in-store experience for Lowe’s customers and associates.

This internship is ideal for students who enjoy combining creativity, design thinking, retail strategy, and problem-solving to develop meaningful customer experiences.

Summer Internship Program

Our 10-week Summer Internship Program, May 24 – July 30, 2027, provides an immersive opportunity to gain real-world experience within a FORTUNE® 100 home improvement company.

You’ll work directly with Lowe’s professionals and business leaders while contributing to meaningful projects, building your professional network, and gaining exposure to how ideas move from concept through development and execution.

This internship is based at the Lowe’s Store Support Center in Mooresville, North Carolina (SSC-M). Our corporate campus provides an environment where you can collaborate with business partners, develop professional relationships, and gain exposure to teams responsible for shaping the experience across Lowe’s stores.

What You Will Learn

As a Concept Design & Integration / Visual Intern, you may gain experience in:

• Understanding how retail concepts move from initial ideas through design, development, integration, and in-store execution.
• Supporting the development of visual merchandising concepts that enhance product presentation and the customer shopping experience.
• Exploring how design principles, customer insights, merchandising strategies, and business objectives influence the store environment.
• Developing visual concepts, presentations, mockups, or other materials that effectively communicate design ideas.
• Evaluating store environments and identifying opportunities to improve visual consistency, navigation, product storytelling, and customer engagement.
• Understanding how products, displays, signage, fixtures, materials, and space work together to create cohesive retail experiences.
• Conducting research and analyzing retail, customer, and design trends to inform concept development.
• Collaborating with cross-functional partners across Store Merchandising, Merchandising, Store Operations, Marketing, Design, Space Planning, and other business functions.
• Balancing creative concepts with operational feasibility and business requirements.
• Communicating design concepts and project recommendations through compelling visual storytelling and presentations.
• Receiving feedback from stakeholders and incorporating insights into the evolution of concepts and designs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Design, Interior Design, Visual Merchandising, Retail Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, Merchandising, Marketing, or a related field.
• Expected graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028.
• Ability to work at Lowe’s Store Support Center in Mooresville, North Carolina for the duration of the internship.
• Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative and cross-functional environment.

Preferred Skills / Experience

• 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Familiarity with creative or design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar design and visualization tools.
• Experience developing presentations, visual concepts, renderings, mockups, prototypes, or design solutions through academic or professional projects.
• Understanding of fundamental design principles, including composition, scale, hierarchy, space, and visual communication.
• Interest in retail design, visual merchandising, store environments, customer experience, or product presentation.
• Strong creative thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to translate ideas and information into clear visual stories.
• Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the broader customer and business experience.
• Ability to receive, interpret, and incorporate feedback throughout the creative process.
• Previous retail, internship, design studio, academic project, leadership, or related experience is preferred.
• A portfolio or examples of relevant design work demonstrating creative thinking and design capabilities is preferred.
