Wells Fargo is seeking an Independent Testing Manager
In this role, you will:
Manage a team of managers in cross-functional teams in accomplishing goals and priorities
Develop and design methodologies and standards for review activities across the Enterprise in alignment with the Risk Management Framework
Ensure effective and appropriate testing, validation, and documentation of review activities for risk programs, risks, and controls according to standards and other applicable policies
Develop, maintain, and execute the Annual Plan
Assess, document, and communicate emerging risks, themes and identified issues to leadership and risk partners in a timely manner
Ensure issues are identified and documented
Identify potential corrective actions, and follows through on reporting, escalation, and resolution
Perform moderate to high risk quality reviews
Lead implementation of complex and strategic initiatives with moderate risk and complexity
Ensure plan includes targeted reviews based on risk and meets internal past due benchmarks
Lead moderate to high risk or complexity review activity engagements
Escalate any critical or high risk issues to appropriate leadership
Manage communication and collaboration with business heads, Legal, Audit, and regulators on risk related topics
Provide status updates to key stakeholders on programs and specific reviews where warranted
Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Independent Testing
Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring talent
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in Independent Testing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
2+ years of Leadership experience
Desired Qualifications:
- 10–15+ years of experience across risk, compliance, audit, assurance, or regulatory functions, with a strong emphasis on AI Strategy, Execution, and Optimization within large, regulated financial institutions.
- Demonstrated experience or strong foundational understanding of Generative AI principles, prompt engineering, and the common failure modes of LLMs (e.g., hallucinations, input token drift, constraints). Experience setting up performance testing protocols for automated or AI systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with managing API-driven architectures, user workspace platforms, execution engines, or model benchmarking tools.
- Proven track record of drafting procedural documentation, scaling governance functions, and bringing operational clarity to ambiguous, fast-moving technical environments. Ability to synthesize local data into high-level global strategy inputs.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Risk Management, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Proven experience in project and program delivery, including managing complex, high-risk initiatives and regulatory-driven timelines.
- Strategic, forward-looking mindset with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity.
- Strong project management and delivery experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex, matrixed organizations and partner across diverse stakeholders.
Job Expectations:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Independent Testing AI Manager to join the AI Execution (AIE) within Independent Testing & Validation (IT&V), Corporate Risk.
This position is responsible for overseeing a proprietary prompt execution platform, collaborating closely with cross-functional development teams, leading an advanced Quality Control (QC) validation process, and maintaining strict governance standards to minimize operational risk and provide process clarity. Furthermore, this leader will manage in-house platform for cross-functional prompt prototyping, manage AI performance testing, and actively contribute validation expertise to the company's global AI strategy.
The ideal candidate blends technical understanding of Generative AI (GenAI) and API architectures with exceptional people leadership capabilities to cultivate a high-performing validation organization.
- Lead and manage a team of AI Execution professionals to deliver Independent Testing objectives.
- Design and maintain AI‑enabled testing methodologies and standards aligned to the Risk Management Framework.
- Execute and oversee testing, validation, and documentation of risk programs, risks, and controls in accordance with enterprise standards and policies.
- Provide credible, independent challenge to lines of business across programs and risk themes.
- Perform and oversee quality reviews, including assessments of high‑risk work.
- Identify recurring issues, emerging risks, and common themes; ensure appropriate documentation, escalation, and tracking.
- Triage critical or high‑risk issues and determine appropriate next steps and escalation paths.
- Lead initiatives with enterprise‑wide or multi‑line‑of‑business impact.
- Manage resource allocation (people and financial) to ensure appropriate coverage during peak testing periods.
- Provide regular status updates to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Mentor, coach, and develop talent; support hiring and succession planning.
- Drive efficiencies, automation opportunities, and continuous improvement in analytics, metrics, and reporting.
Proprietary AI Platform Management & API Execution
- Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and long-term scaling of the team's proprietary platform integrated via APIs to execute AI prompts.
- Ensure high platform availability, seamless API performance, and robust technical infrastructure capable of supporting enterprise-level prompt execution.
- Coordinate with internal technical assets to prioritize platform updates, feature optimization, and technical performance enhancements.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Prompt Onboarding
- Serve as the primary operational partner to the cross-functional AI Prompt Development team and related business units.
- Define and manage the end-to-end workflow for onboarding newly created business process prompts onto the GenAI module of the platform.
- Facilitate clear communication channels to ensure business requirements, prompt behavior expectations, and engineering changes are perfectly aligned between development and testing.
Quality Control (QC) & AI Output Validation Framework
- Directly lead and expand the AI Execution (AIE) QC team tasked with checking and validating prompt outputs.
- Establish comprehensive, objective validation methodologies to evaluate model outputs across diverse parameters, including hallucination detection, data input sufficiency, contextual accuracy, bias, and performance thresholds.
- Implement structured logging, performance dashboards, and actionable feedback loops to assist prompt developers in optimization.
AI Performance Testing & Benchmarking
- Design and execute structured AI performance testing parameters to continuously measure, evaluate, and benchmark model responses.
- Track critical performance indicators including response latency, throughput under load, prompt execution speed, and token usage optimization.
- Partner with engineering teams to diagnose performance bottlenecks and maintain stable, scalable user experiences across all modules.
AI Strategy
- Deliver strategic testing data, performance benchmarks, and governance metrics to contribute meaningfully to the organization's overarching global AI strategy.
- Act as a subject matter expert to ensure localized validation procedures align seamlessly with global AI ethical guidelines, risk appetites, and technical deployment roadmaps.
- Identify emerging industry trends in AI validation to keep the enterprise at the cutting edge of safe AI adoption.
Governance & Procedure Management
- Manage a dedicated Governance team focused on bringing clarity, standardization, and structural rigor to the team's operating environment.
- Author, implement, and maintain clear standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation criteria, and testing policy frameworks.
- Ensure the team's testing procedures align fully with enterprise risk controls, compliance guidelines, and evolving external AI regulatory frameworks.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse, high-performing team composed of QC validation analysts, technical platform operators, and governance specialists.
- Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture centered on accountability, continuous technical learning, and psychological safety.
- Set transparent performance goals, deliver regular constructive feedback, and map professional development pathways for team members.
