Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a Senior Engineer – Roads & Highways to support our growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the Greater Toronto Area.

What You’ll Be Doing:

You will play a Senior Engineer role in the design and delivery of municipal roads and highways projects — coordinating multidisciplinary teams, providing technical direction, and supporting project success from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards technical excellence of engineering functions across projects, coordination of technical disciplines, development of conceptual/preliminary/final design to meet project objectives and goals.
  • Design of roadway infrastructure including ramps, interchanges, and roadway apertures involving but not limited to horizontal and vertical alignments, super-elevation diagrams, layout plans, grading plans, cross-sections and various design details.
  • Develop detailed construction elements, including construction staging concepts, plans and sequencing, detours, traffic management, and temporary conditions, with consideration for all modes of transportation.
  • Design and incorporate active transportation facilities—such as sidewalks, multi-use paths, cycling lanes, and crossings into the overall design in accordance with applicable standards and best practices.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates to support project planning and budgeting.
  • Lead and mentor Associate/Intermediate Engineers and junior staff by providing direction, technical oversight, and support to complete tasks and deliverables.
  • Coordinate closely with interdisciplinary technical personnel and the broader project team to ensure cohesive integration and development of high-quality deliverables.
  • Support Project Managers and contribute to the planning, execution of tasks and development of deliverables ensuring adherence to budget expenditure, milestone schedules and quality control.
  • Ensure all designs comply with client specific requirements, project scope, and all applicable provincial and municipal standards.
  • Prepare all required technical reports, presentations, and documentation for various clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Gather, review, and distribute technical and contractual information to relevant project disciplines.
  • Should know and guide staff in the interpretation and application of engineering standards including TAC, OTM, AASHTO, OPSD, OPSS, and engineering design guidelines from various municipalities across the Greater Toronto Area such as but not limited to Halton Region, York Region, Durham Region, City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, City of Vaughan, City of Brampton, Townships, etc. as well as Metrolinx and MTO design standards and requirements.
  • Utilize design and collaboration software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and ProjectWise.
  • Perform corridor modeling using assemblies and templates in Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
  • Develop project schedule and tender documents
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with expectations and successful delivery.
  • May be involved in scope development, scope management, change management, and commercial performance to meet overall project goals and objectives.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • 8+ years of related work experience in roads and highways engineering, including MTO and/or municipal projects is a must.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is a must, preferably with PEO.
  • Proven track record completing roadway design projects within the Greater Toronto Area.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation engineering standards and practices.
  • Proficiency in design software (Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in Metrolinx projects is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of MS Project or Scheduling Software will be an asset.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and collaborating with diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $135,000
