About Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley

Situated at the northern end of Napa Valley off the famed Silverado Trail, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley will offer experiences that will capture the imagination of even the most seasoned wine country visitors.

BASIC PURPOSE: The Director of Banquets oversees all facets of the Banquets Department. They are involved in the planning, set-up, execution and breakdown of events in the Resort. From ensuring the proper set up of function rooms, to assisting in the hiring, training, supervising and performance management of the staff. Director  takes a hands-on approach while ensuring the Banquet team is meeting all Four Seasons Standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS:

  • Select, train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline employees, assistant managers and supervisors in the hotel’s Banquets and Events spaces to ensure that established cultural and core standards are met.
  • Be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all banquet events. Establish the long-term strategic planning for the Banquets operation.
  • The Director of Banquets is responsible for maintaining a strong client relationship and ensuring that all conference and special event specifications are communicated to, and executed by all hotel operating departments, making for a successful meeting or event experience for the guest and attendees.
  • Communicating daily activities, in person or by log, to banquet personnel to ensure smooth transition and follow-up from one function to another.
  • Monitor SOPs to ensure consistent exceptional service is provided as well as developing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Achieves budgeted revenues, controls expenses and maximizes profitability within assigned areas.
  • Control labor and operating expenses through effective scheduling, budgeting, purchasing decisions, and inventory control while focusing on creative revenue generation solutions to maximize profit.
  • Setting up all functions and meetings in an appropriate and timely manner while maintaining standards of food, beverage, and meeting specifications
  • The ability to be visible in the operation, recognize and maintain relationships with regular guests as well as cultivate relationships with new patrons, both Event organizers and attendees.
  • The ability to work closely with the Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Resort Chef and Banquet Chef to ensure an excellent product quality and excellent service delivery.
  • Communicate with employees and managers to ensure operational needs are met as well as attend regular operational meetings to ensure effective coordination and cooperation between departments.
  • Observe physical condition of facilities and equipment in the outlet and make recommendations for corrections and improvements as needed. 
  • Create and nurture a Great Place to Work for All. 
  • Comply with Four Seasons’ Category One and Category Two Work Rules and Standards of Conduct as set forth in EmPact.
  • Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with responsibilities and duties in the absence of or due to heavy volume in other areas of the Resort.
  • Phone coverage and other direct guest communication.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management.
  • Assist with service of food and beverage items in all Food & Beverage Operations areas.
  • Assist with set-up and cleaning of operational areas.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Education:

  • College Degree Preferred, specializing in in hotel/restaurant management or equivalent experience required.

Experience:

  • Three to five years’ previous experience leading a Banquet and Events operation.
  • Knowledge of Napa Valley and surrounding areas, highly desirable, however not required.
  • Preferred experience in a luxury hotel or caterer operation

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be flexible with schedule- Able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, evening/overnight shifts.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Must possess excellent leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a high volume and demanding environment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong problem solving skills, ability to handle difficult situations and guests.
  • Excellent Ability to handle high profile customers under pressure and with an extremely high level of professionalism
  • Requires a working knowledge of food and beverage division operations as well as Four Seasons cultural and core standards, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Requires reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language, Spanish is not required but strongly desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
