We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer for a key position within the Global Mobility Automation team.  The Mobility Automation platform plays a key role in enabling associates to work faster, secure and be more efficient. The Global Mobility Automation team developments mobile applications, workflows, and cloud programs to support Walmart’s 2 million mobile devices.


About The Team: 

The Global Mobility Automation team supports the successful deployment and infrastructure of all mobile applications. We strive to continuously improve technology and products to help associates so they can focus on what matters most - supporting our customers and members.  Mobility Automation supports one of the largest mobile fleets in the world, working with multiple MDM (Mobile Device Management) models such as Fully Managed, COPE, and BYOD. 


Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers.
 

What you'll do:

  • Leads the technical work of a small groups of six to ten software engineers, for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long- term solutions and timelines; reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
  • Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level designs by partnering with the product management group, business partners, project management, and application teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concepts; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.
  • Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents and product requirements); writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with the project team and business partners.
  • Supports business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives (for example, business strategy, technical feasibility, implementation alternatives); identifying short- and long-term solutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; formulating an action plan; directing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues; and completing online documentation.
  • Working on ways to automate and improve development and release processes.
  • Drive the development of technical solutions across engineering, and operation teams by providing technical leadership, guidance, and direction.
  • Assessing current systems and processes and developing ways to improve them. Work closely toward resiliency and hardening to have a robust system.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and application development teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of technical/operational solutions.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies to ensure the system remains relevant and innovative.
  • Working with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended.
  • Assist in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of technology tools, frameworks, and platforms that align with the overall platform strategy.
  • Act as a mentor to team members providing guidance, support, and training on best architectural and coding practices.
  • Build scripts to automate mitigation playbook steps to reduce impact during production incidents.


 

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of working experience in Java/J2EE.
  • 3+ years of experience with Kotlin and Android.
  • 5+ Total years of experience with Mobile Development. 
  • 3+ years of experience with a Mobile Device Management (MDM).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and be able to articulate complex technical concepts in business terms.
  • Demonstrated high level design of systems.
  • Solid experience in large scale distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
  • Have designed, built, and maintained APIs, services, and systems on cloud at large scale.
  • Mentored and led other team members.
  • High expectations of yourself for innovation, execution, and accuracy.
  • Lead others with respect.
  • Are curious and have the desire to learn new technologies and quickly change direction.
