Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Warhead Design Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. Primary Responsibilities
The Warhead Design Engineer will lead a multidisciplinary team in the design, development, and testing of new warhead systems for an interceptor development program. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that the warhead design meets all performance, safety, and reliability requirements. This includes conducting detailed design analyses, overseeing the fabrication and assembly of prototypes, and managing the qualification process with the Department of Defense (DoD). The Warhead Design Engineer will collaborate with other engineering teams, program management, and external stakeholders to deliver a fully qualified warhead system on time and within budget.
Basic Qualifications
Candidate must have strong leadership credentials, good organizational skills, attention to detail and work well as a key member of a team often tasked to be highly responsive and agile in order to satisfy critical warfighter needs.
The candidate must have experience in the following areas:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 12 years of experience in warhead design and development or 10 years with MS degree.
Proven experience in leading teams through the complete lifecycle of warhead development, from concept to qualification.
Demonstrated expertise in explosive materials, detonation physics, and warhead performance analysis.
Experience with DoD qualification processes and requirements for warhead systems.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering simulation software.
Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with interceptor or missile systems development.
Familiarity with modern manufacturing processes and materials for warhead production.
Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to explosive materials.
Experience with systems engineering practices and tools.
Certification in Project Management (PMP or equivalent).
Active security clearance.
Publications or patents in the field of warhead design and technology.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
