Responsibilities
- Set the agenda for an enhanced UA Dairy strategy and build programmes to deliver through close working with colleagues in insights, marketing, Functional and Regional R&D teams Supply chain and Procurement.
- Manage priorities within direct team and across multiple commercial stakeholders.
- Developing an understanding of and demonstrating application of technical knowhow, commercial business needs and technical & talent development.
- Scope and lead technical roadmaps across 5 yr horizon.
- Take accountability to identify suitable dairy technical solutions, formulations and optimized processes for local application for BU and category level calendar activities- particularly in fresh fermented and long life consumer dairy products.
- Provide technical guidance and bench- pilot development for dairy technology development initiatives leveraging experimental design and scientific principles in recommendations and decisions vs consumer acceptability and stability vs COGs.
- Ensure completion of development and commercialization success criteria in execution of projects through use of accepted documentation and work processes (TSG/ MyInnovation).
- Develop products and processes in partnership with cross functional teams aligned with PepsiCo Global Quality & Food Safety policies, standards & guidelines, with risk mitigation approaches to assure sustainable compliance.
- Clearly articulate and align technical development needs to influence the wider R&D organisation to develop correct future fit solutions.
- Proactively challenge suitability and performance of product designs in order to maintain a competitive advantage in terms of product acceptance, unique product design, cost of goods etc.
- Proactively progress Pep+ agenda vs. agreed business and sectoral targets.
- Leverage internal and external vendor and research expertise with maximal agility to enable delivery against commercial plans.
- Deputise as required for R&D Director to represent R&D interest at key forums (Global and local).
- Line management – coaching, development, and performance reviews of team alongside key technical capability development.
- Monitor R&D expenditure. The role allows the opportunity to influence decisions involving significant capital sums.
Qualifications
- First Degree or equivalent in a Science or Engineering related discipline (post graduate preferred)
- Previous project management experience, covering product & process development ideally within FMCG environment of 5 y +).
- Established competence at product development in FMCG dairy related business.
- In-depth technical dairy chemistry knowledge and advanced problem solving skills in the areas of dairy technology process and ingredient solution development and application at commercial scale.
- Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions, drives continuous improvement of products and processes and demonstrates a high degree of intellectual curiosity
- Passion for creativity and innovation within a commercially driven environment
- Self-starter, self-motivating: able to balance competing priorities without losing momentum and manage uncertainty and complexity in fast evolving FMCG environments
- Ability to manage teams in remote locations fostering a positive, inclusive work environment where people feel respected and valued for their contributions, especially capable of working cross culturallyUnderstanding of manufacturing relating to PepsiCo products and processes
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and distil into meaningful information e.g. interpreting consumer insights, experimental design and statistical inference and ability to disseminate to both technical and non technical audiences
- Strong holistic management skills to effectively drive through complexity. Quickly analyses complex problems to find actionable pragmatic solutions and constructive action plan.
- Strong presentation skills (written & verbal) and ability to effectively communicate with senior and cross functional colleagues multilingually.
- Strong networking / relationship building skills both with other R&D colleagues globally and other functions: Ability to create and use networks to actively seek and take advantage of ideas, best practice and solutions developed elsewhere and proactively share information
