Overview

An exciting opportunity to impact PepsiCo’s North America Foods business, the Life Sciences Insights & Innovation (I&I) team is seeking an Associate Principal Scientist. I&I is critical to helping PepsiCo achieve portfolio transformation and deliver Positive Choices as part of our corporate PepsiCo Positive (PEP+) goals. This position will support Life Sciences activities related to the development of new products and claims, renovation of existing products, nutrition strategy for brands, research translation and nutrition education efforts for PepsiCo Foods North America associates. Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team to execute Life Sciences support for portfolio transformation, to deliver products that are better for the planet and people, and help the PepsiCo Foods business achieve growth.
  • Guide product innovation and renovation through R&D and business partner collaboration, and oversee nutritional analyses and process management.
  • Understand nutrition needs of consumers to deliver relevant solutions and insights to the business in a format that is readily applicable in consumer products.
  • Evaluate and translate scientific data to identify market-ready opportunities, and advise business units on the integration of such opportunities for claims and positioning.
  • Enable the organization to make informed business decisions on health and wellness related issues in the context of PepsiCo food products.
  • Network internally and influence highly matrixed in-person and virtual teams to achieve success. Internal audiences include clinical research, product development, external engagement, regulatory, legal, marketing, communications, consumer insights and sales.
  • Guide 1 or more direct reports to achieve team objectives and individual professional growth.
  • Oversee nutrition review of product packaging, recipe analyses, and other brand advertising and marketing content.
  • Execute internal nutrition education efforts for R&D, Marketing, and Sales on topics of relevance for Foods businesses.
  • Ensure connectivity within and outside of Life Sciences; bring business insights and priorities in to other Life Sciences teams, bring Life Sciences capabilities out to cross-functional partners, and recognize opportunities for synergy and collaboration globally among regional nutrition partners.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $85,200 - $142,650 based on a full-time schedule.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 10% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nutrition science, or related discipline, with 5+ years’ experience. PhD preferred, RDN desirable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen; ability to utilize scientific technical expertise and leverage nutrition trends to identify future business opportunities.
  • Ability to translate complex science into concise and understandable education and business insights.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with cross-functional partners in a highly matrixed environment; demonstrated success working with and influencing remote/virtual teams and colleagues.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple workstreams and responsibilities, and balance the need to deliver against aggressive business timelines with excellence.
  • Ability to thrive given ambiguous, nuanced and/or complex assignments and goals.
  • Flexible and comfortable with change.
  • Familiarity with North America (US/Canada) market specific regulations.
