“Find your role”.

Leading the Food Safety and Product Safety team, enabling and supporting the business to effectively manage operational food safety and hygiene risks and requirements and product safety due diligence through the supply chain.

Developing the food and product safety programme

  • Lead in the delivery of a cost-effective food and product safety programme that mitigates risk
  • Work cross-functionally to develop food and product safety policies and procedures that align to, and support operational ways of working and manage up-stream supplier compliance
  • Evaluate and measure operational and commercial implementation of processes to close compliance gaps and continually improve the established food and product safety programme
  • Maintain a robust horizon scanning programme to identify future regulatory developments and / or business risk, and share key updates with relevant business partners
  • Develop measures to ensure continuous improvement through the delivery of operational simplification
  • Work cross functionally coordinating with other compliance risk areas and teams to support in the implementation and development of the businesses risk assurance programme
  • Objectively analyse data to support in the creation of meaningful awareness campaigns and deliver leadership programme insights

Business partnering

  • Support the business in the development of new store formats and fresh food customer offers  
  • Working collaboratively and cross-functionally to provide expert advice and guidance to support in the delivery of business partner strategies and the onboarding of new suppliers
  • Provide expert guidance and advice on potential withdrawals and recalls for food and / or non-food products
  • Lead on incident management investigations and mitigation strategies to minimise the risk of regulatory challenge or civil action

Liaising with external agencies

  • Communicating and working collaboratively with external agencies, trade associations and sector specific business forums
  • Working collaboratively with national regulators to influence and shape future food safety and product safety enforcement models and strategies
  • Work in partnership with Primary Authority to develop, review and assure operational food and product safety policies and procedures 
  • Support operational teams and commercial business partners to respond to regulatory contact in a timely, professional and considered manner
  • Liaising with internal Legal team in order to provide support and advice in order to respond to any serious regulatory contact.

  • The role requires an excellent knowledge of the UK food safety and hygiene regulatory framework, understanding of risk, and practical food safety implementation in an operational retail environment. A food retailer would also be advantageous.
  • You will be a senior manager with a strong operational food safety background with a track record of managing food safety across a large national retail/foodservice or distribution business. Experience in the convenience sector is an advantage, but not essential.
  • An ability to engage across multiple channels and work effectively and collaboratively across different teams
  • An ability to deliver at pace in a complex and ever-changing environment
  • You will lead by example and do the right thing whilst being open, honest, and accessible
  • Excellent business partnering, written and verbal communication skills are essential
