About the Team

The Omni Merchandising team is focused on building best-in-class products in service to our External B2B users as well as internal Lowe’s associates to seamlessly collaborate, communicate and conduct business with Lowe’s. Our goal is to become the Retailer of Choice for Vendors, Suppliers and Service providers by providing them easy access to tools, data and information to perform their tasks with simplicity, speed and accuracy.

Our team is geo-distributed between the US and India, but works collaboratively as one cohesive team in service to building and delivering Enterprise-scale products that will be leveraged by our business and external users around the world.

Job Summary
The Sr Manager, UX provides every-day leadership and tactical direction to a team (or multiple teams) of Product Designers, Researchers, Content Strategists, and Engineers.

This role provides input for the overall user experience strategy based on project experiences/learnings and works through his/her team to ensure that design strategies and standards are applied consistently across projects. This individual is largely accountable for the look and feel, and overall user experience, of the products built and deployed by the Technology organization.

This individual manages people (including senior level design and engineering resources) which includes responsibility for setting individual and team expectations, delegating assignments and managing performance, identifying talent needs, and coaching and developing team members.

Core Responsibilities:

·       Informs internal design methodologies and processes, and translates the UX strategy into tactical direction for design team members

·       Leads a team (or teams) of UX team members (design, research, content, engineering), including senior level product designers and engineers, working on complex design projects

·       Ensures that high-level UX company standards are consistently applied across projects; seeks to evolve design methodologies and processes with changing industry trends, tools and technologies

·       Ensures Lead level Designers consistently complete appropriate level of review and critique before sign-off on high-impact, high-visibility design projects

·       Provides day-to-day direction and feedback to team members on design work

·       Facilitates the collaboration of team members with cross-functional partners

·       Facilitates productive, two-way dialogue between the design team and Technology team

·       Provides insightful, tactical direction to team members; coaches and develops team members

·       Helps the team solve escalated design problems at the project or product level

·       Provides input for departmental budget and forecasting, and manages expenses associated with initiatives within scope of responsibility

·       Creates and/or leads the creation of standard operating procedures and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)

·       Controls project risks by analyzing and identifying trigger events, establishing contingency plans and recommending ways to mitigate future risks

·       Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change

8 Years of experience in UX Design, Product Management, or related area

3 Years experience leading a large-scale team/project within an Agile environment

3 Years experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members

Primary Skills (must have)

  • Communication

    • Continous collaboration with Product Managers, Engineers and Stakeholders

    • Manage progress of work and outcomes with the Global UX team

  • Domain Knowledge

    • Research – Collecting and analyzing inputs such as behavioral data and end-user feedback

    • Information Architecture – Organizing pages and information so it is easy for users to accomplish their tasks (Jobs to be Done) with simplicity, speed and accuracy

    • Content Strategy – Implementation of content plans to engage users across digital channels to maintain a consistant voice and tone of the Enterprise to the end-user

    • Prototypes – Create simplified versions of working features to investigate problems and validate solutions

    • Visual Design – How elements and layouts impact the user experience

    • Wireframes – Designing blueprints that demonstrate how a product works before displaying how it will look

  • Empathy - Understand user perspectivevs by actively listening, observing, communicating and limiting assumptions

  • People Leadership

    • Build and maintain a positive and collabortive team culture

    • Work with invididual team members to hone their craft and develop their career path

  • Hiring and Building Teams

    • Interview, hire and grow the UX Team; hold UX team members accountable for their performance and quality of their deliverables; recognize efforts of high-perfomers

    • Capacity planning and resource management to ensure the UX is properly staffed and has the balance of skillsets to build Enterprise products

Secondary Skills

  • Delivery Management - Manage deliverables from teams to ensure timeline delivery of key features for the Product(s)

  • Agile Practitioner  – Able to work in a Agile development environment focused on delivery of value and outcomes in an iterative fashion


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent work experience in a related field)
• 8 years of experience in UX Design, Product Management, or related area
• Experience leading a large-scale team/project within an Agile environment
• 3 years of experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
