As a fast-paced organisation with over 1000 sites, Asda’s food safety programme is continually evolving. The business has ambitious plans for growth and embraces new ideas and innovation to support operational teams to succeed. As part of the Food Safety team, you will be supporting the business to effectively manage operational food safety and hygiene requirements, particularly in our growing convenience estate – Asda Express.

You will:

• Ensure compliance with Food Safety legislation, regulations and requirements for all convenience estate operations, and promote best practice in order to maintain food safety, reduce regulatory burden and maintain brand reputation in a cost-effective way
• Maintain and improve the food safety framework for Asda’s convenience estate, including Express, Petrol Filling Stations and franchise outlets.
• Develop food safety policy and process to ensure increased alignment and identify efficiencies across Asda’s estate and operational ways of working, using data and insight.
• Provide subject matter expertise across the business to support the delivery of corporate strategic priorities, for example food safety training
• Support the field-based teams on incident management and Enforcement contact in relation to food safety matters
• Analyse data to support in the creation of meaningful awareness campaigns and leadership programme insights
• Work in partnership with Primary Authority to develop, review and assure operational food safety policies and procedures
• Review data sets and metrics to assess and evaluate operational performance to support in the delivery of continuous improvement

• The role requires good knowledge of the UK food safety and hygiene regulatory framework, understanding of risk, and practical food safety implementation in an operational retail environment.
• You will be a manager with a strong operational food safety background with a track record of managing food safety across a large national retail/foodservice or distribution business. Experience in the convenience sector is an advantage, but not essential.
• You may hold, or be actively working towards, membership of appropriate professional bodies
• An ability to engage across multiple channels and work effectively and collaboratively across different teams
• An ability to deliver at pace in a complex and ever-changing environment 
• You will lead by example and do the right thing whilst being open, honest, and accessible
• Excellent business partnering, written and verbal communication skills are essential
• This role requires a degree of autonomy and ‘can do’, but will be guided by the Food and Product Safety Senior Manager, the Food Safety team and the wider business objectives.
