Day to day responsibilities:

  • The Enterprise Design Standards team is responsible for creating an exceptional user-centered, standards-based system that guides initiatives across our digital products, including web applications, mobile apps, and other user interfaces. We collaborate with a diverse range of teams throughout the Humana digital ecosystem, driving integration of inclusive best practices throughout the product life cycle in an Agile design and development environment.

  • As a key member of the Enterprise Design Standards team, your empathy, expertise and leadership will be instrumental in crafting barrier-free digital experiences that exceed user expectations.

As an Accessibility Design Lead, you will:

  • Champion accessibility and inclusivity as a core standards principle, ensuring that Humana’s digital products stay current with accessibility standards and regulations including WCAG 2.1 and beyond

  • Advocate for Universal Design principles, with a particular focus on designing for seniors and those with varying levels of digital literacy

  • Provide accessibility criteria for Design Standards and Style Guides documentation

  • Conduct accessibility audits and usability testing on any new styles, components, design patterns and other foundational elements of the design system, to ensure that these are validated before release to teams across the enterprise

  • Consult with and upskill product, design and development teams on accessibility methodologies and considerations for assistive technologies

  • Partner with user research to promote and conduct usability testing with users with diverse abilities

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging guidelines and technologies, to ensure our standards remain innovative and meet evolving user needs

  • Contribute to the organization’s Standards and Processes in support of digital accessibility

  • Promote the use of accessibility best practices during product planning and design phases through:

  • On request, conduct reviews against Accessibility Standards and Guidelines

  • Collaborating with content, design and front-end team members to find accessible solutions for new development or remediation, and build consensus around the best solution for users with disabilities

  • Helping teams to prioritize found issues, determine the best way to document, track and close them

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as an Accessibility Consultant/Lead

  • Strong understanding of current industry-standard, accessible interaction design principles and patterns

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and influence team members while building consensus and maintaining collaborative working relationships

  • Ability to make strategic decisions and mitigate risk in order to produce timely recommendations

  • Significant experience designing with business, technical and design guideline constraints

  • Ability to adapt existing processes and deliverables when necessary to meet project needs and improve accessibility

  • Proven influence on best practices for bias-removal in user testing with persons with disabilities

  • Deep knowledge of assistive technology and criteria for accessible code

  • Proficiency in prototyping applications such as Figma, including partner plugins and tools that support accessibility validation during the design process

  • Experience using assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnifiers and native mobile capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design or similar field; an advanced degree in human computer interaction, user interface design, human factors or design planning, is preferred (significant relevant work experience may substitute for an advanced degree).

  • One or more certifications from International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) e.g., CPACC, WAS, CPWA

  • Experience designing for a senior audience and/or user testing with participants over the age of 65

  • Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

  • Involved with the accessibility community in the U.S.

Work-At-Home Information

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership

  • Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$126,800 - $174,500 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
