We’re looking for a Director, Trade Compliance

The Director, Trade Compliance manages the Trade Compliance team and oversees Entrust’s global sanctions and export compliance efforts.  The Director, Trade Compliance must be organized, efficient and flexible; work well under pressure; understand highly technical products and services; develop strong, cross-functional partnerships; and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

How you will make an impact: 

The following represent the key responsibilities of the role as they exist today.  This role may expand to include responsibilities that may be new to the Director, Trade Compliance.

Oversight (50%)

  • Maintains and drafts policies, standards, job aids and other resources, including maintenance of internal and external Trade Compliance sites, related to global trade compliance efforts.

  • Keeps Trade Compliance team informed of emerging or changing sanctions and other risk areas.

  • Oversees auditing and monitoring program related to export declaration filings and reports.

  • Partners with Trade Operations to manage broker and freight forwarder relationships.

  • Manages internal and external program risk assessments.

  • Partners with VP, Compliance and/or external counsel to investigate potential violations of sanctions or export controls by colleagues or third parties.

  • Liaises with trade compliance regulators as needed.

  • Presents regular KPI and metrics dashboards to leadership as requested.

  • Assists with pre-acquisition due diligence and post-acquisition integration efforts on Trade Compliance matters.

  • Drive continuous improvement and maturity in Trade Compliance program.

Leadership and People Management (30%)

  • Lead and manage diverse, global Trade Compliance team.

  • Develop individual competencies, provide meaningful growth assignments, and develop back-ups to ensure long-term viability of the team.

  • Perform general management responsibilities such as hiring, performance management, performance reviews, individual development activities, etc.

  • Coach, develop and train colleagues on policies, procedures, company objectives and strategy, and continual career growth.

  • Monitor team performance against department standards to ensure these standards are consistently met or exceeded.

  • Assist with disciplinary investigations, decisions, and action.

  • Act as an escalation point for issues and provide leadership and guidance to team.

  • Provide necessary work direction and manage projects effectively through planning, organization and project management.

Training (10%)

  • Develops and delivers training content to relevant cross-functional partners (e.g., Trade Operations, Finance, Sales).

Export Licensing and Classification (5%)

  • Assists Trade Compliance team as needed with product classification decisions and licensing applications for controlled products.

Other (5%)

  • Provides surge capacity during busy times and steps in for managers during extended leaves of absence.

  • Partners with VP, Compliance on contractual template provisions related to sanctions and export controls and compliance.

  • Partners with the VP, Compliance to mature Entrust’s Trade Compliance program.

  • Participates in special projects related to sanctions and export compliance as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in international trade, international business or related field

  • 10+ years of applicable experience

  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Ability to develop strong relationships at all levels of the organization and participate fully in executive-level strategic decisions

  • Able to travel up to 25%, including internationally

  • Must be able to lawfully work within the jurisdiction where the colleague resides

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of export controls pertaining to Group 1, Category 5 – Part 2 goods.

  • In-depth understanding of encryption technology standards and algorithms.
