The Construction Project Manager plans and directs construction, renovations, and maintenance projects.  The mandate of this position is to direct and oversee the contractors, plan budgets, develop project schedules, and liaison with various departments within Circle K.  This position will provide strong leadership in all aspects of the construction process relating to new, raise, rebuild and renovation projects while in accordance with all company and industry regulatory health, safety & environmental standards & procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensures seamless delivery of projects on time and on budget.

  • Responsible for project finance control, reporting, construction, project management and risk management

  • Oversee construction projects from initial development of scopes of work and permit applications to completion.

  • Negotiate and manage construction and renovation contracts within approved guidelines and capital budget appropriations.  This will include negotiation of contract terms and conditions, fees and/or contract values, deliverables, quality control, and legal accountability – all done to assure that the financial and legal interests of the company are protected and that liabilities and exposure to risk is minimized.

  • Prepares project schedules, budgets, and tender documents.

  • Produce procurement of equipment documents and order materials. 

  • Ensure order and deliveries expedite the schedule.

  • Oversees upgrading of all construction specifications including fuel renovations.

  • Directs supervisory personnel and contractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures.

  • Liaise with general contractors, engineers, architects, designers, equipment manufacturers and other departments within the company to ensure that workmanship conforms to specification, details, and project documents.

  • Prepares reports on progress, material used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as needed.

  • Authorizes and monitors expenditures.

  • Repairs sites as required and coordinates this through the Manager of Maintenance

  • Tracks and updates expenditures on individual projects regularly to coincide with period reporting requirements.

  • Decommissioning of old sites and store closures. 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Central Canada.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a coordinator or project management role

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a building construction in a retail environment

  • Management experience in leading and directing capital design and construction initiatives. 

  • Expert understanding of project delivery methods, approval processes, project estimating and cost control

  • Experience with RFP including contract negotiation budget management.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical services which provides buildings automation, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), etc. to the store network.

  • Demonstrate excellent communications, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to provide guidance to contractors, architects, and consultants

  • Working knowledge of legislation, Codes and Zoning Bylaws

  • Open to travel anywhere in Ontario

  • Capacity to work under pressure

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • CAD an asset
