Job Summary:

The Senior Transportation Manager will ensure a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost through meaningful engagements with transportation leaders and associates, best-in-class service to customers, and safe and profitable operations. The Senior Transportation Manager will manage fleet operations for Fuel South Express (FSX), Circle K’s proprietary fleet, and the team responsible for providing fuel inventory management, supply coordination, and dispatch services to company and dealer-operated stores.  They will ensure optimum fuel inventories, service levels, arbitrage value capture, and delivered freight costs by analyzing individual and team performance, systems capabilities, sales trends, and market conditions. 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises the regional FSX Fleet Managers. Responsible for ensuring fleet performance and compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Responsible for recruitment and management of fleet drivers.
  • Responsible for observations and compliance with Fleet SOP regarding fleet operations as well as safe driving behavior.
  • Responsible for the performance of the FSX Fleet on key metrics including fleet utilization, capture of arbitrage (best buy) value, productivity, and safety.
  • Ensures the fleet is operating safely and in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Manages the team responsible for fuel dispatch and delivery by identifying the most cost-effective method(s) of delivering fuel; coordinates the supply of fuel to gas stations.
  • Coordinates with fuel teams and management to establish targets for fuel distribution key metrics: driver performance, inventory days’ supply, delivered costs, arbitrage capture, and run-out rates.
  • Manage product quality turnover in compliance with RVP government mandates.  Facilitates inventory turnover and product availability by reviewing and adjusting inventory levels and distribution.
  • Improves company image by supporting company goals and developing internal and external information programs.
  • Provides management with information on fuel distribution key metrics and other relevant departmental performance by assembling and analyzing data; identifying and researching trends; providing forecasts; explaining processes and techniques; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions. Allocates program costs by preparing operational and risk reports for analyses.
  • Maintains internal management staffing by recruiting, selecting, hiring, and orienting employees.
  • Oversee and develop Fleet Managers through one-on-one coaching, training on policy and procedures, assisting in problem resolution when required, and leading by example.
  • Oversee and develop Fleet Managers by discussing performance with Fleet Managers and creating plans to address gaps.
  • Drive associate engagement and retention and create a culture that embodies Circle K values.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with company, state, and federal DOT regulations.
  • Resolving customer concerns by planning and directing the receipt, investigation, evaluation, and settling of complaints and claims; following up with customers; personally, resolving demanding situations.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations.
  • Traveling as required for the job.
  • Other duties assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Other combinations of job-related experience and education that meet the requirements may be substituted.
  • Minimum 10 years experience working in a petroleum dispatch department and/or heavy trucking industry; 3 years’ fleet management/supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in transportation management software and tools. Requires experience working with PeopleNet, TMW, and Telapoint.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Experience with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred.
